16 Night Transatlantic - Westbound (Rome To New York)

Sail date: November 01, 2022

Ship: Norwegian Escape

Review summary

This was our 2 nd cruise on NCL Escape and first transatlantic. We were not disappointed with the food except for Prime Rib night at O'Sheenan's. The meat was very tough. Menus have been slightly changed for the better since our last cruise. We found that we needed to be precise with especially breakfasts. Like ask for specific number if toasts and request jam, etc. This is quite ok as we have seen many people wasting so much in the past as well as stuffing purses with tea packets, sugar, jams, little cereal boxes.. All shore excursions were well coordinated. All in all, excellent trip!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We try to stay away from the buffets but were pleased the few times we went. The dining rooms served excellent meals but found that we needed to be adventurous as some of the descriptions weren't clear to us. We were pleasantly surprised. All speciality restaurants were exceptional. Menus have been adjusted since our last cruise on Escape and found these much better. The only issue were in the main dining rooms. We booked dinners for 7:30 pm and found that there were not too many people. Therefore, there was lots of movement around us with table settings and cleaning. It just made us feel rushed instead of relaxed.

Le Bistro

5 out of 5

Wat better than expected. Didn't want to go because our experiences at Le Bistro on 2 other NCL cruises was disappointing. We tried this one with low expectations but we're incredibly surprised. Had the lamb which was fantastic

The Manhattan Room

5 out of 5

Bigger than Taste and Savor so expect more activity around you. The food and service were excellent. Taste, Savor and The Manhattan all have the same menu

Teppanyaki

5 out of 5

Fun and good. Did this the first night and were seated with a few people that had too much to drink. The chef handled it well and all ended well.

Bayamo by Ocean Blue

Sugarcane Mojito Bar

5 out of 5

We did the mojito tasting which was a delight

Savor

5 out of 5

Excellent. Would be better if late diners were placed in proximity of each other to avoid the hustle and bustle of re-setting tables and cleaning

O'Sheehan's Bar and Grill

5 out of 5

Excellent for a good and quick breakfast, lunch or snacks.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Spa treatments were good but expect them to be pricey. Did wine and cheese pairing which was excellent. Did mojito tasting which was fun. We were a total of 7 days at sea and found that daytime activities were lacking for those days. Outdoors was not an option because of weather.

Mandara Spa & Salon

5 out of 5

Good massage with somewhat of a face treatment. Not a full facial. A bit pricey, I found.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Only had shows at 7pm. The 2 major shows were ok. Went to one other which was also ok. Shows were not the best we have seen but we're ok.

Spice H20

Nice and quiet. I wish there were more signs indicating that this area is designated as a quiet zone at certain times
