the Western Mediterranean itinerary was great for us but I suggest if possible to add the 7 day land tour if you really want to see Venice, Florence, & Rome. The cruise ports don't allow enough time to really see all the sights of Italy.

Book your activities on line BEFORE your cruise. As I emphasized before-pick a cabin before you go based on that cabins ratings and where you want to be (such as near children's center or NOT near it)...

Do not pay for wi-fi minutes in advance until you have had a chance to check just how good (not) the wifi system on board is. Expect many of your minutes to be eaten up in logging in/out. Internet staff not helpful or sympathetic to complaints.

Do not take this ship if you do not like crowds. It is HUGE and the crowds are unbearable. Also it is not a ship for COLD WEATHER. There is not enough inside space -- and there is absolutely NO WHERE to go to relax quietly when it is full and the weather bad. Book your shows before you board.

Don't bother waiting for the elavators at peak breakfast times or just as a show finishes. Way quicker to take the stairs if you're able. Barista style coffees available from the mid ships atrium coffee kiosk.

Do this ship in the Mediterranean and do it before the kids get out of school. I like kids, but honestly, just one set of parents who let their kids run amok can put a damper on everyone else's fun.

On the end of the cruise, I chose the last time available for my luggage availability - HUGE MISTAKE. It seems everyone did the same and I waited 2 hours for my luggage to come out.

Buy the water package - no free bottled water on the ship or you're charged for bottles! Bring your own insulated water bottle for excursions: it'll keep water cold for hours and you can often refill. Buy the spa package on Day 1 - fabulous way to decompress after a day's excursion and it's very peaceful; skip the overpriced treatments unless you really want one. Buy a theft-proof bag for shore excursions - well worth it.

Norwegian Epic is a great ship if you like unlimited alcohol (unlimited adult beverage package), super large ships, and plenty to do!! I definitely recommend to anyone!!

Think ahead about what you might want to do and try and get reservations ahead of time for everything. We were a little more on the fly with our planning, and found it frustrating to want to eat at 8:00 PM, only to be told that no reservations were available until 9 or 9:30 PM.

Don't book your excursions through the ship. The whole point of doing that was to ensure a safe return to the ship but at the moment we needed them they were not there. Our Viator excursions that we booked in Rome on our own (before the cruise) were all perfect. Exactly as described and the highest quality.

Eat breakfast on Deck 15 at the pool. The buffet there has the same basic food as the Garden Room, but lines are much shorter.

Would have booked excursions before boarding the ship. However, did manage to arrange for excursions thru private vendors while at Port. Book nightly entertainment as soon as you board to avoid missing out on a popular show.
