Nice ship - poor experience by joeskla

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Food in dining room was fair. Lots of speciality rstaurants makes one feel the cruise line is telling you that to get really good food on board you need to pay the "nominal fee". During the cruise the pools were being worked on and on the last sea day two of the pools were closed. Only good thisn on the ship was the fact that we had the unlimited beverage package so we could drink ourselves into oblivion.

I'll make this short...I spent 2 days wasted because of none of our rooms had obc except for Evelina's being our 2nd time on the ncl Epic we got the run around and they contacted and your company said you couldn't do anything...I would never refer anyone to you again

Norwegian Cruise by airinkjos

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Staff was very friendly and courteous.  They accommodated my gluten free diet and treated us like royalty in the dining room.  We enjoyed all of the shore excursions, Dunns River Falls in Jamaica, snorkeling in Grand Cayman, and the Mayan Ruins/Beach in Cozemel.  The ship was very organized during shore excursions, boarding, and deporting.

Cruise Feedback by rpulipak

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was our first time on a Cruise. We enjoyed the Cruise and fairly well organized.

My key issues were:

1. Very poor service at the SPA

2. Not enough attention to detail and choices for people with Dietary needs and Vegetarians. Our family was all vegetarian and when I booked 3 months ago, I specifically requested for Veg Food and Dairy restrictions. But we did not enjoy any proper food to eat. I did bring it to the attention of your EPIC Chef and they were not courteous.

3.Shore Excursions wasted a lot of time. Hope the Shore excursions could be better organized so families could do more activities. We could hardly do any activities even though we booked Shore Excursions through NCL.

4. Hope the quality of food could be improved. You do provide lot of choices for example - Varieties of Deserts are offered but the quality of deserts is very ordinary. Hope you give fewer choices but improve quality.

5. Lastly, hope you can make effort to tell people not to waste the food. Very sad to see how much food people eat and waste most of the food.

Hope this feedback helps. But overall we had a relaxing and safe Cruise and I would recommend to friends to take NCL Cruise lines.

NCL Epic by the2gers

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Cruise was great.  Have been to the western Caribbean on past cruises so we did not tender into Grand Cayman.  Docked at Cozumel by all the waterfront shops so we didn't have to take a taxi.  Ship itself has a very unusual stateroom configuration of which I was not happy with.  The toilet is behind a glass wall and door by itself, a water closet as some may call it.  The shower was on the other side of the entry door by itself.  The sink was on the desk counter and splashed on the counter whenever the water was turned on.  The room was dark and could have used a light in the ceiling in the center of the room.  Glad the ship is going to the Mediterranean and staying there.

Terrific entertainment by Taos68852931

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Great contemporary state rooms. Fabulous teen program. Terrific entertainment (Blue man group,  cirque dreams and second city) Staff was nice but not overly friendly like I have seen on other ships. More ship adult activities like arts and crafts and games would be better.

Ship was huge....specialty restaurants were great....rooms have lots of storage, but are a nightmare by michbri1969

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Loved the experience on this cruise.  We ate at as many of the specialty restaurants as we could and always had a great meal.

Spent a lot of time in the spa area where the staff was friendly and accommodating.  Montree in the barber shop is awesome.

Casino is big with a lot of options, however, continuous shoes at Black Jack for under $25 kinda sucks.  Casinos already make a good cut, having the continuous shoe is just a slap....seriously, I can wait while you shuffle.

You will never find a room with more storage space...it is everywhere, but there is where the wonderfulness of the rooms ends.  The rooms are S shaped, so there is a round bed, perfect for a couple who are both under 5'5", otherwise, you may sleep with a foot off the bed.  The "couch" which is also the spare bed for a child is also a half circle, causing our 8 year old to roll out of it on a nightly basis.

When you enter the room, the toilet is on one side of the entry door and the shower was on the other.  Imagine the fun I had when I was sitting on the throne and my wife was talking to the porter right next to me....

All in all, not sure I would go on the ship again, but since it is heading to Spain, I probably won't get that chance.

Wonderful Ship Wonderful Crew!! by simplytrim

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We found the NCL Epic to be a great ship. The crew was friendly and helpful, food great and entertainment super.  My balcony cabin was a "quiet" retreat when I wanted some "me" time.  I did have an unexpected trip to the ship's medical center.  The Dr. was efficient and very professional.  My "malady" was treated and  soon I was off to enjoy the cruise.  We would recommend this cruise to anyone.  I especially enjoy the "free style dining" as I generally like to "do my own thing"

Awsome Time! by tyvewa

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My wife and I had the most wonderful and fun time!   The Epic is a "beast" of a ship, and fully contained. The entire crew was just the most accommodating and friendly.  We simply loved the entire experience and would do it again, in a heart beat.

Nice ship by idfalcon725

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The balcony room is very nice, the bathroom set up is different but I didn't find it too big of an inconvenience. The circus show was pretty good but the food was excellent, the best meal I had on the ship. The Blue Man group show was also good but had a lot of flashing lights which have several of my group a headache. The cucina restaurant was a big disappointment. The buffet had plenty of options.

Vacation was great, food was OK by jpwaisfeld

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My kids and I really enjoyed the cruise and all of the venues, but I was expecting more out of the culinary experience.

The first problem was that my online restaurant reservations went nowhere. I had to re do them while on board. We purchased the ultimate dining package, so we had a chance to sample all of the different restaurants. At the french bistro and at Cagney's the dinner service was very slow. We were at those restaurants for a little over two hours. Other restaurants were better time wise.  The food in them was not up to par to similar restaurants in the city. I guess I had the wrong expectations.

The second issue was how much we had to spend on board. Not counting the ultimate dinning package I spent an additional $800 while doing little or no shopping. This was more than I expected to spend.

Overpriced by rothteach2003

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Although the family had a great time, and that is what is most important, we found this cruise to be over priced. This was my 9th cruise but first week long voyage and expected more from such a large ship. I was disappointed with the small living quarters including shower and bathroom with frosted windows that were not separated from the room. The food was below average on most nights and the Teppanyaki restaurant was over priced with little food. The quality of the on board entertainment was disappointing, especially the hypnotist and the Second City family performance. Blue Man Group was entertaining. Three days at sea were painful and wished they had a private island like the shorter cruises in which to visit

Good time by gandrews21

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I cruised with my husband, Daughter, Son-in-law, two Grandchildren, Mom and Brother.  There was something for everyone to do on this ship.  The Kids had a wonderful time in the pools and in the kids areas.  We all enjoyed Blue Man Group, Legends and the other entertainment, which was included in the price of the cruise.  We found the main dining room service was rather slow, but the food was good.  We changed our reservations to eat in the buffet after a few times in the main dining room and found that the food was excellent there.  We had a mini-suite and it was nice.  The air conditioning was not working very well and the cabin steward was not the greatest.  My Husband and I had taken this same cruise last year and loved it.  This year it seemed that because this was the ship's last time in the United States it may have not have been up to it's first class standards as it was last year.  But overall we had a great time and for the money I would recommend it.

Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I've cruised other lines but fully recommend cruising like a Norwegian is the BEST. I have cruised Norwegian Epic's Mediterranean and Caribbean Seas and have future cruise rewards. Inside cabins are spacious and comfortable I prefer the balcony which is well worth pampering yourself. The stewards are wonderful, crew friendly and polite, cuisine yum yum, great entertainment and we'll organized clubs for toddlers to teens.

Overall Good Cruise by mwass

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The food quality in the restaurants was sub-par regarding quality...not sure if they're trying to get people to go to the restaurants with the up charge.  One bar, O'Sheehan's was awful (very rude staff and incompetent) and this sentiment was expressed by multiple people on the ship. On the positive side, the crew was fantastic and the entertainment was wonderful!

BIG Ship, Good...yes, but no by mcmklm4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The entertainment was really good, BlueMan, Second City, Circus Dream (spelling)...very enjoyable.   First cruise where reservations were "encouraged" for all shows, typically just for specialty restaurants, not a deal breaker though, just different; had to "plan" most every day.  Enjoyed the cruise, but I'm not wild about the Ship.  Felt like the Casino was the showcase, I don't gamble, don't smoke, so didn't like that.  I enjoy the large multi-level atrium like on the "Star", this one was underwhelming. There was no deck that you could walk all the way around the ship.  Huge disappointment for me, I love to walk the deck early in the morning and again in the evening. It all depends on what you like to do.  Also, there were many things in the "Haven" (upper decks) that were exclusive to passengers in certain cabin types (most expensive).  We had two "bad" dining experiences in the free dining room.  Two hours to get our order our first night on board and one of our last nights the server was quick to tell us, he was helping out because our server was a no show.  NEVER had bad service in a dining room before, then two of the 5 nights we ate in the free dining rooms were bad. Give me a smaller ship; just as many amenities and  great service to boot!

Wonderful Casual Cruise by sjtatham

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Loved the excursions and onboard entertainment and activities.  Great activities director and assistant.  Good clean wholesome fun for our grandchildren, children and us.  We had a ball.

A slight negative was the Dunn's River Falls NCL excursion was way too packed with climbers.  My husband and I (seniors) wished we had booked CO's excursion to the Enchanted Garden which would have been slightly more doable for us.  We were glad to see the Falls, but probably could do the CO trip.  The string ray city was a little less than I'd hoped for.  It was an NCL trip and didn't include much more than being photographed with a stingray.  When one boat guide helped us see the rays separate from the ones being photographed, it helped keep our attention better.  We were in a large ring of people just waiting our turn.  Of course, then the pictures were for sale.  We loved the Ruins and Beach tour in Cozumel.  Our guide there was Dante and driver Pancho.  Dante was passionate about his city and the ruins.  We ate the best fresh fish taco at a swimming beach restaurant.  That was our best NCL excursion.

Hugh ship but plenty of fun for all by dncwolke

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The Epic has something for everybody.  Crew and food was good.  Difficult getting deck chairs on sail days unless you are there by 10AM.  Circu-ceili-dining was a great program, with good food.  I didn't like that you had to book the entertainment.  We missed seeing Blue-Man group.  The crew got us on and off the ship effortlessly.

GREAT SHIP, GREAT FOOD by ctmd0311

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was nice, clean with rooms that are spacious and wider shower rooms. The ships water slide was cool but the line gets long. The gym is bigger but there are a few cycling machines that does not work , you have to pay extra to use the steam room ( which most of the other cruise ships were free) .The food was better, more choices than the other cruise ships that we went. We have cruised with Carnival, Princess, Holland, Royal .The only thing is that there is not a lot of shows to watch at night comparing to the other cruise ships. Blue man was great but definitely recommend cirque dinner - its up close and personal. Other than that - the other shows are ok except that some you need to pay extra. We always look forward to the escargot, lobster and creme brulee but those need to go the the specialty restaurants to get the real thing and you have to pay extra again. The ports - Jamaica- wont go back there, but Cozumel and Grand Caymen are great spots to snorkel and the water are pristine and blue.
