Review summary

I personally hated this cruise ship but I loved the itinary. It was the worst cruise ship I have ever experienced. I couldn’t wait to get off. I just don’t think the service was up to scratch. I had issues with the food as my diet requirements not properly catered for other members of my party liked the food and had no issues. It’s maybe not the best cruise line if you have gluten and dairy intolerance. I didn’t think there was enough todo on the ship considering it was transatlantic. If you don’t like drinking or gambling or sitting in a bar not much to do. The gym was really good for the younger members of the group. Half the hot tubs had no bubble/ jets.

Embarkation

2 out of 5
Boarding was stressful. There was 6 in our party. 2 in one cabin which and 4 in our cabin. We were separated to 2 different counters. Our server excepted our Esta printouts but the server who was attending my daughter and partner would not accept the printout for their Estas even though they were all on the same printout.and delayed about 45 mins.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
I am gluten free and milk free. There was soya milk in the buffet but you have to ask for it. Iwasoften given vanilla sweetened soya milk to put in my tea when asking for plain unsweetened which is horrible in tea when you don’t like sugar or flavoured milk let alone in Tea. The food in the buffet not labelled so hard to navigate

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
There was a lot of dead space on the outside decks. The outdoor areas where either full on loud and noisy or no sound at all. Some easy listening music or quiet areas would have been preferred. The entertainment inside all near main atrium very noisy. Dinner took so long every night we were missing a lot of the entertainment.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
There was entertainment but not enough daytime activities for a transatlantic cruise. I found a lot of the entertainment was using the passengers as entertainment which I am not a big fan off. I can’t comment on all the entertainment as every time we went to the main restaraunt was taking far to long to get through dinner and so kept missing the shows

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
Some staff very nice but some I found were quite stand off ish or appeared stressed or unhelpful. I was told to ask about things in the main buffet if I had dietary requirements and kept running into issues or not getting the information which made it stressful to find food. Some waiters in the main dining rooms extremely helpful and others quite sarcastic and unhelpful.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
Quite dated I personally did not like the dark colours inside the ship. The lifts felt like being in a dingy nightclub. I felt the inside of the ship was like a big casino and pub like atmosphere. The outside of the ship some areas a bit warm and in need of repair. The constant creaking of metal in the smoking/ vaping area was a bit much everyday.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
The cabin steward really good. The lights not working when we first boarded was fixed but at about 7.30-8pm. Lights generally in room to dark to see when putting makeup on and doing hair. Parts of ceiling on balcony falling off was repaired half way through cruise. The whole cabin constantly creaking even when not in bad weather.

Ship tip

Have low expectations. Don’t compare it to other cruise ships or you will be disappointed. Expect to be constantly unsold. The cruise was on this occasion a way to travel to the next destination as I really did not enjoy the cruise ship as a floating hotel.

Ports of call

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

5 out of 5
We used the local bus and train to go to Pisa. Trains are really easy to use and was only £26 for 6 train fares to Pisa.

Marseille (Provence), France

4 out of 5
We have been to Marseille before. We took the 10 min walk outside the port by following the green path. We got the free port shuttle into town.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

We stayed in Rome which was lovely and then travelled to this port.

Ponta Delgada, Azores

Thanks for the review. Just my opinion but if you don't like certain types of entertainment or don't like the bar scene and such it doesn't mean there's nothing to do - it means it's not something you choose to partake in, big difference.

You did have a good itinerary for sure. Generally that's the only reason I book cruises and the fact it's cheaper than flying to all the ports. Boring to me is sitting on a one-way transatlantic flight for 16 hours from LAX-DXB. There's definitely not anything to do, like nothing and that's why I'd rather cruise. Appreciate your in depth review.
