Disappointed... in how unprofessionally we were treated by the NCL Staff!
Flabbergasted... at being accused by on board NCL staff of intentionally booking an 'accessible suite'
Disheartened... that NCL took no ownership for their employees poor behaviour
Sad... that we made such a bad choice when other cruise lines offered the same itinerary
To recount this experience several times since September 2017 has been both exhausting and painful but we feel its necessary. We want to let other travellers know what happened to us and to be aware when choosing a cruise line.
Embarkation

Taxi Driver took us to the wrong boat location but we didn't have any issue with getting on board since we arrived as early as possible.

Onboard Activities

Most of the activities were geared towards small children. The adult area at the back of the boat had a very small pool which was more like a big bath tub.....and in the evening they played kids movies on the big screen in the adult/smoking area???
Service and Staff

The senior staff members we dealt regarding our room were extremely rude, unprofessional and went so far as to suggest they had contacted our travel agent back home in Atlantic Canada which was an absolute untruth. We had absolutely no recourse in regards to how we were treated. At this point, following several complaints to our travel agent, their associated travel group and NCL we were merely offered a $200 credit, if we travel with them again....which will be Never!!

Our room was an 'accessible suite' that was assigned to us by the cruise line prior to travelling. We did not go on our cruise until September 10, 2017 but were signed up with NCL on-line since May 2017. One would think this would be plenty of time to notify us of any requirements to possibly change our room. We received daily notifications of liquor packages and excursions but absolutely nothing was sent to us either electronically or through our agent advising us that our room was an accessible suite even after we had boarded early and completed our mandatory muster training! Totally unacceptable. Nobody had taken ownership of this error but we suffered the consequence.
Some said Naples was very dirty but we found it lovely. We did not do an excursion on this particular day but got a boat across to Sorrento and train to Pompei - Definitely beautiful but if ruins are your thing a scheduled excursion would be best.
We did a $1000 Cdn excursion in Rome (2 people). It was a jam packed day with all the top sites but if you wanted to do any shopping this was not the excursion for you.
I would suggest a structured excursion like this one if you truly wish to most of the religious and historic sites as it's very hectic in Rome and lots and lots of people. Easy to get lost!
We did a $500 Cdn excursion on this day and well worth it. Florence was absolutely lovely and our guide 'Sammi' was amazing. It truly was a splendid tour. Only one thing to mention was the tour was noted as moderate but we had a few seniors on the tour that were struggling and we could not keep going without them for obvious reasons. The cobblestones and road conditions make it more difficult for people with mobility issues and this should be more clearly indicated in the write ups because the tours are only as quick as the slowest person. Everyone is required to stay together so you don't get lost. That being said we really enjoyed this day. It was probably our only really good day out of the 7 day cruise.
I am sorry you didn't enjoy your cruise, but the room symbols on the deck plans clearly denote which rooms are accessible. If you had a room number, the type of cabin was easily discernable. Either way, there was a misunderstanding: That does happen from time to time. Based on our own very positive experiences, and on the other reviews of the same cruise, it's a bit of a stretch to accept that every staff person you talked to would have that difficult without unreasonable provocation. It's also difficult, based on other reviews and our own experience, to accept everything in your review at face value: No adult activities, mediocre food, dismay over the size of the pool at Spice H2O.... It sounds a bit like the lament of someone who chose not to do a reasonable amount of research, and then let a single misunderstanding dominate your whole experience. Again, I'm sorry, but it appears you've robbed yourself of a wonderful time.
A second review on the same cruise to just, again, complain. I’ve taken 3 cruises with NCL and a 4th booked for next year. Your reviews won’t change my opinion. Love NCL. Maybe cruising is just not for you.
