Review summary

My husband and I cruise at least once a year. Our favorite line is NCL. We really enjoy the freestyle dining as well as NCL's entertainment. I do like some of their other ships more than the Epic but we thoroughly enjoyed this cruise.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Our favorite restaurant was O'Sheehans. They had a great variety, speedy sit-down service and excellent friendly staff. There was never a wait to eat there and they were open 24/7. We enjoyed all the restaurants except Main Dining Room Manhattan. The service was very slow. The food was great everywhere.

Onboard Activities

There was one thing about the Epic that was disappointing. No indoor pool. The weather was not really good enough, most of the time, to sit outside. I do love sitting by the pool to read and going to the hot tub. It is very relaxing and after a long, tiring day of sightseeing I look forward to that. My hubby and I couldn't do that on the Epic. To cold and windy outside. In addition there was no bar service offered to those seated, when the ship was docked, which was mostly everyday. I have never had that issue on any other ship in the NCL line or any other line. In addition, until I complained, there was no music by the pool while docked.

Entertainment

Great stage shows and musical performers but not music in every bar as well as center stage. Center stage seemed to be showing movies (no theatre) or some type of instruction like towel folding.

Service and Staff

Room steward was SUPERB. All but one waiter were fantastic. The one was in the Manhattan Dining Room. He was incredibly slow. We did tell his manager. All the other ship personnel tried to do everything possible to make the cruise as wonderful as possible. Going out of their way to help. We thank them for that.

Ship Quality

Cleanliness was superb. Design is terrific and beautiful. Only one problem was heard by many and that was that the aft elevators didn't stop on the 5th floor due to the Taste Dining Room. It would also be very helpful if the left side of the numbers on the elevators could be lit so that people could see the number more easily in order to be able to choose the floor they need.

Cabin / Stateroom

Our cabin was perfect in size, comfort and cleanliness at all times, thanks to our room steward.

Barcelona, Spain

This was a post cruise tour which ended at The Hotel Mount Blanc. Wonderful city ! The 4 hour tour of the city showed us many of the buildings in Barcelona and telling a lot of the history of the city. The tour then went to "Sagrada Familia". After that we asked to stay on the bus and the bus driver agreed to take us on to the hotel while the others continued with the tour. We stayed in Barcelona for an additional 3 days. Beautiful city with lots to see and do. Wonderful restaurants and fabulous restaurants plus very friendly people. The people at the Mount Blanc Hotel were very helpful and the room included breakfast daily. There was a lovely swimming pool on the second floor.

Naples, Italy

Views of Naples excursion. Wonderful port. Tremendous architecture !!

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

5 out of 5
One of the most wonderful cities in the world !!! No excursion here. We took the train to Rome and then hired a taxi around Rome and the Vatican. My husband uses a wheelchair and this was such a comfortable way for us to visit Rome !! What a fantastic city. We saw the Coliseum, the Vatican, St Peter, Piazza Venezia, and more statues than you can count.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

We took the Pisa and Trolley tour which was wheelchair friendly. Pisa is Awesome !! The Square of Miracles is where the trolley dropped us off. Our guide showed us the leaning tower, ancient monumental cemetery, the Baptistry, and The Cathedral of Santa Maria. There were also various shops and eateries. We had plenty of time to tour all of this on our own. Then we met back where we started to take the trolley back to the bus and return to the ship. A beautiful City and wonderful excursion.

Cannes, France Did not visit port

Palma De Mallorca, Balearic Islands
