Review summary

Arrive a day ahead if you can to see the sights in Seattle. Pack your patience-the elevators do NOT hold 20 people. Go late in the season for less crowds but go back “in season” when more restaurants in Alaska are open. If you drink, go to the Mojito tasting - you won’t get drunk but Alejandro will give you history on the mojito. Enjoy your cruise and take it all in!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Early embarkation made very easy since we did everything online prior to arrival.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Main dining room food was almost the same every night. Steakhouse and BBQ were excellent as expected. Buffet had great food but didn’t like the people or the lack of seating.

Cagney's Steakhouse

5 out of 5

Typical steakhouse. Melt-in-your-mouth steaks and pretty good sides. You will leave there stuffed to the gills so take your dessert to go.

Sugarcane Mojito Bar

5 out of 5

All the bartenders here were a class act. Raspberry Guava Mojito is great but don’t sleep on the other flavors. Go to one of the two mojito tastings, you won’t regret it.

Room Service

3 out of 5

Knew when ordering there was an extra cost but didn’t expect a two-dollar mark up that wasn’t listed anywhere. Got oatmeal raisin cookies and chips instead of chocolate chip cookies and fries as was listed on the menu. The food arrived in about an hour so that was good.

Q Texas Smokehouse

4 out of 5

Really good BBQ. I got the sampler platter that came with two sides and a dessert so they had to roll me out of there. Marked down a star because of the live band. Excellent idea but the speakers were way to close to the tables so you couldn’t talk without yelling.

The Observation Lounge

4 out of 5

Awesome views. Loved that they had a bar and snacks there. Took away a star due to lack of seating. Think of pool chair hogs without the pool. Many people with the best seats were either sleeping or reading so they weren’t allowing others to enjoy it. I wish Norwegian staff could wake people up and tell them to move.

The Manhattan Room - Main Dining Room

5 out of 5

Skip Taste and Savor and go to the Manhattan Room. Dining is free but they enforce the no hat, no ripped jeans more than the other main dining rooms. Service was the same but our big group got to sit together both times we went and the views were a lot better. Wish we went there earlier in the cruise.

Garden Café

4 out of 5

Wide variety of food and was tasty. Typical buffet food so it wasn’t hot. I marked it down a star for lack of seating. I wish the cruise line could make people get up when they are done eating.

Atrium Bar

5 out of 5

Always busy but lots of alcohol in the drinks. The bartenders worked their butts off. This was the busiest bar on the ship.

American Diner

5 out of 5

Typical coney island food if that’s what you want. It was good, but don’t waste your speciality dining option on it. It’s cheaper to buy the food ala carte.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Best events were in the Atrium but it was too hot and not much seating. Pack short sleeves and shorts to wear on the ship.

Tradewinds Tax-and-Duty-Free Shops

3 out of 5

Not a fan. I knew the items would be overpriced but on top of that, there wasn’t much variety compared to other cruise lines. No “flash sales” worth going to. I like shirts so it was disappointing not being able to find a Bliss shirt worth the money.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Six was entertaining. A lot of quick-witted jokes which made it funny. Jersey Boys was even better but it could have been 30 minutes shorter-it got slow at times.

Bliss Theater

5 out of 5

Beautiful theater and lots of seating. Get there early for the show. The magician didn’t require reservations but there wasn’t a seat in the house 30 minutes before the show.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
99.9% of the service was excellent. We had one waitress in the main dining room that didn’t like her job. She was no reflection of anyone else who did great but unfortunately she made an impression.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Very clean and awesome design. I took away a star due to the lack of elevators for a ship of that size compared to other cruise lines.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Typical small cabin like on any ship. I liked the liquid soap next to the sink for hand washing and the extra storage under the sink.

Ship tip

The Observation Deck is a must visit. You may not find a seat but it will be worth it just to walk through.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

5 out of 5
No excursion but stayed for two days prior to cruise. Loved the food options and aquarium within walking distance of the port. Saw quite a few drug addicts in the area but they never bothered us.

Juneau, Alaska

5 out of 5
No excursions. Beautiful first stop. We went near the end if the season so mostly plus size shirts were left for souvenirs. We didn’t mind.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
No excursions. Small town vibe that we loved. Got a dough boy that was delicious but I wouldn’t say a “must have”.

Cruise Glacier Bay

5 out of 5
Absolutely without question stunning. Late in the season so only two brief whale sightings but did see walrus(?) sunning on the shore and seals(?) swimming about. Too far away to be sure but still magical. Worth a return trip just for that view.

KETCHIKAN (WARD COVE), ALASKA

5 out of 5
Train ride excursion. Took the train ride that stayed in Alaska. Excellent ride that gave history of the gold rush. If you’re going to pick one excursion to go on, make it this one. Late in season so salmon were done spawning. Hundreds lay dead in the river off Creek Street. It was surreal but impactful.

Victoria, British Columbia

1 out of 5
No excursions. I’m sorry BC but I didn’t like your port. I knew the trip would short (Norwegian is required to stop at a foreign port) but we did not enjoy it. Shuttle to town was $13 per person when other port shuttles were free. Souvenirs were twice the amount compared to Alaskan ports. Next time I’ll stay on the ship or plan a trip to BC that arrives during the day.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Seamless with Port Seattle luggage service. We put air-tags in our bags for tracking piece of mind. Set bags out at night and picked them up at home airport on time. Norwegian’s disembarkation line on the ship was top notch. It weaved through the ship in a way that eliminated confusion.
