The Nieuw Statendam is a beautiful cruising ship. We only had half the amount of passengers due to Covid and that was nice. We could enjoy everything on the ship and still social distance. The crew was always cleaning wherever we walked inside or out on the outside decks.
The entire crew were outstanding. If you met one while walking about, that crew member always gave you a friendly greeting. The MDR waiters were very pleasant, and if they had time they would share a bit of their life's stories with us. They were all so happy to be back to work after the lock down for two years.

I loved all the stage shows. Lots of variety, from singing, dancing, comedy and classical .

All the crew was amazing. They were so happy to be back to work after 2 years shutdown. Couldn't do enough for us. Crew members were always cleaning the ship whenever I was walking around. Our two Cabin Stewards, Robby & Tony always had a big smile (behind their masks) and a friendly greeting whenever we encountered them on our 5th deck.

As we walked around the ship daily we would encounter crew members cleaning. In lounges the waiters always cleaned off table and chairs when people left.

For two ladies, this room with a balcony was just the right size. The bathroom was small but adequate. Loved the full walk in shower and the shower head was outstanding. I loved the towels and wished I knew what company makes them for Holland America as I would like to buy some. It was a very nice touch to have a full length bathrobe furnished to wear in room or to the pool or spa. Plenty of electric plug ins on desk area and behind the wall by our pillows.
Ship tip
Bring some magnetic hooks and clips to use on their metal walls to hang the daily schedule and small items.

A fascinating country and would love to revisit it someday. We took the 8 hour Golden Circle and Horse Show tour. Lots to see but we were very tired upon returning to ship. But then again the two of us are in our 80s.

Had a short bus tour of St John's and then dropped off to visit The Rooms, which is a museum about Newfoundland and Labrador. It was okay but would have preferred a longer bus tour of the area.
Had a wonderful 6 hour tour around Halifax and out to Peggy's Cove. Had plenty of time in Peggy's Cove for a nice sit down lunch. Tons of tourists at Peggy's Cove.
Disembarking was long as we had to wait for Customs personnel to arrive and they were late. Then picking up our checked luggage in terminal was overwhelming. Shuttle bus to airport went well.
