The city has been noted as a port since the 10th century because of its excellent harbor, which is a tideless fjord. The city has a university and is a popular center for pleasure boating.

Take the train to Lübeck. Takes about an hour. €16 return. A very attractive town. Birthplace of Thomas Mann.

We had a walking tour with a wonderful guide and learned a lot about this city. We had no idea that the canal has more traffic than the Panama and Suez combined. It has a very interesting history.
