This was a great cruise in spite of the Covid-19 precautions. There will probably never again be a circumstance in which a 2,600 passenger ship sails with 800–900 guests. It is sad to see the impact of the pandemic on the Caribbean islands. Hopefully, they will rebound soon but I suspect it will take some time.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Quick and uneventful……the ship was at 40% capacity.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Generally very good. The Canaletto and Tamarind were excellent.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Didn’t participate in much of these kinds of activities.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
The BB King and rock and roll venues were very good. Other more classical performers were excellent. We didn’t attend the stage shows due to conflict with meal times.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Excellent, excellent, excellent. It was clear that the staff was happy to be back to work and looked forward to the return of all of their colleagues.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
It’s a fairly new ship and it shows.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
The cabin was noticeably smaller on this ship in comparison with Neptune suites on other HAL ships. It wasn’t uncomfortably smaller but maybe a sign of newer ship design. Otherwise, it was very clean and all systems worked perfectly.
Ship tip
It’s an excellent ship. No more lounge chairs or teak outside the promenade deck and some walking spaces are pretty narrow.
Did an all day tour and saw interesting sites and learned about the history. The driver was held up at one of the stops and drove dangerously in an attempt to get back to the port on time. Some concerned passengers asked him to slow down several times. Too much driving between stops (sometimes 45 minutes to 1 hour) and would definitely not recommend if one is prone to motion sickness.
Took a ride on the old sugarcane railroad and returned by sea. Highly recommend this tour. It was a wonderful way to see and hear about the history of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Not much to do at the tourist shops surrounding the dock in Amber Cove. Strongly suggest getting away from there and visiting the Puerto Plata. Unfortunately, none of the offered tours were of interest to us because we had previously taken some of them.
Thanks for sharing. Did you have any specific issues with covid requirements at various ports. Is there anything we need to know or prepare ahead of time?
T minus 18 days and counting until I get to board! I’ve been counting down for almost 2 years! Thank you for posting your review! Any quirks boarding the ship we should be aware of?
