Overall, this was an excellent 2-week cruise. I wasn't sure how I would like the sea days because of the crowds but it was not crowded anywhere and there were plenty of activities. I would highly recommend Nieuw Statendam. Beautiful ship.
Embarkation

We arrived about 2 hours after the opening time and I would suggest that as there were no crowds. Check in was very quick.

Food and Dining
5 out of 5
We only ate in the main dining room 4 or 5 times as the buffet allowed more flexibility in our schedule. We were satisfied with all the food. The Lido buffet was great as were the burger and pizza places near the pool.

Didn't use them much but others seemed to enjoy

Great music in the evening. I especially enjoyed the Lincoln Center Stage piano quintet.

Ship Quality

Brand new ship. It never felt crowded even with 2700 passengers on sea days.
Cabin / Stateroom

Great cabin inside although the location could have been a bit better. It was right below the lido where the smokers were so we heard moving furniture a lot. We could occasionally smell smoke in the hallway. The room was across from the stewards' closet but that didn't bother us as they were very nice and quiet.
Ship tip
Choose a room on levels 5, 6, 7 to avoid being above or beyond public areas. We were aft and didn't mind that as the walking was good for us. Also, if you are sailing to a destination that may be cold, bring layers. The ship public areas were usually warm so I was glad that I wasn't always wearing a long sleeved top.
We did the Hop On Hop Off bus and while it was nice to go around, it took quite a long time because of traffic and the commentary was just so-so. Definitely get tickets ahead for the funicular to go up to Mt. Floyen. It saved a lot of time.
We did an excursion through Blue Puffin tours to the North Cape and two fishing villages. I highly recommend this tour. Local people own the company and our guide, Monika, was excellent.
We did not cruise this fjord although it was advertised that we would. So, we didn't book an excursion through the fjord because we thought we would see it later.
Buy railway tickets ahead of time on your own (visitflam.com). They will sell out as ship buys many tickets. We also booked a ferry ride through the Naeroyfjord that was spectacular.
