Be prepared for a fairly small room if you have an ocean view room. I think the interior rooms are larger.

If you like quieter ships with little live entertainment, it is ok. I would not sail on this ship again. It was geriatric city, and I'm over 60 myself, but it was way too quiet.

It's an older guest crowd on the ship, but that's what we we're hoping for for. Do you homework. Being this was our first time, we watched many youtube videos about cruising and this particular cruise line.

Explorers lounge just off of the dining room is a fantastic place just to lounge about with a great view.

This is a great, well managed ship. Take the opportunity and go any where on this ship. You will be glad that you did. This was my second trip on the Nieuw Amsterdam and I was not disappointed.

Travel as light as possible - makes traveling much more easy. Don't be concerned about formal wear - HAL doesn't enforce the policy - smart casual will work. The specialty dining is a bit overpriced, but are worth the experience and excellent choice of that special evening or occasion to celebrate

Buy your ship gifts/souvenirs the last 2 days of your cruise ... prices go down during the week. Buy your jewelry at the 1st shop under the tram in Juneau - best price and selection of all 3 port stops. If you walk 3 times around the deck = 1 mile! The Manhattan Dinning Room for dinner every night!

You don't need to bring shampoo, conditioner or a blow dryer. They are provided in-room and are great products. Normally hotel products are only so/so but these products are great!!! Leave your regular products at home.
