We have cruised many times before, but never to Alaska. I don’t think I would use Holland America again, although they are one of the few that offer cruise tours. I believe that this was a one and done destination. It’s someplace I always wanted to see and experience.
Embarkation
1 out of 5
It was very confusing and took about an hour to get on the ship standing in long lines and walking great distances to get through the various checkpoints.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
We loved the food in the Pinnacle Restaurant and ate there twice. Ate in the main dining room once and didn’t think the food was that great. The food in the Lido Buffet was better.
Onboard Activities
1 out of 5
Didn’t use the pools or the fitness center.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
We loved the comedian’s shows and also the performers on the Main Stage, BB Kings musicians and the BillBoard Musicians.
Service and Staff
2 out of 5
Our room steward was never around and it took him till after 12 noon to make up our room one day even thought we put the “Make up Room card in the door at 8am. Since they only touch your room once a day now, I don’t think it’s too much to ask that your room be serviced in a timely manner. You never saw him in the hallway like in the past. The waiters and servers in the Lido Buffet were excellent and we even tipped 2 of them extra.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Always felt that the ship public areas were clean and well maintained even though this ship is a bit older.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
We had a balcony cabin that was very comfortable. The carpets look like they should be replaced. We loved where our cabin was in relation to the elevators and the dining areas. My only complaint is that we were on the 8th deck and the Lido Buffet and the rear pool deck were above us and all we heard all day and into the night were chairs scraping above us.
We didn’t really stay in the town at all, but we did do the bus and train excursion to the Yukon. We had a great bus driver that was very informative and even pulled over twice so we could see Bear. It was a great trip!
We loved Juneau. We did the Dog Sled summer camp and it was great! We also did the tram to the top of the mountain and had king crab legs at a restaurant in town.
