Beautiful Clean Ship, Food and Entertainment Average by mjlantz1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was beautiful and maintained very well.  They layout with the promenade through middle, gave easy access to every location.  The adults only pool and hot tubs were excellent too.  I learned at the Captain’s talk that all pool/hot tub water is desalinated from the ocean, and refreshed every 45 minutes.  Definitely a plus!!  We really enjoyed this cruise.  Departure location and pricing were perfect for us.  The only negatives were- of course there was the occasional smells from the plumbing that I’ve noticed on just about every ship.  We’ve been on 15 cruises, all lines.  The food was just average.  However, it seems most cruise lines have cut back.  No more steak and lobster without an extra fee.  Waitstaff was exceptional which made the dining experience fun despite the food.  Johnny Rockets was lots of fun and was a great junk food fix.  The worst thing was the entertainment.  We have seen some wonderful shows, comedians, and magicians on our cruises…none of these were on this ship.  The ice skating show was the only one worth seeing.  But hey, relaxing with a cool drink in the ocean breeze is great entertainment on a beautiful ship!!

Great Time _ Food Mediocre by JoeBananas

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The cruise was fun and service on the Boat was also good. Ports of call were a good choice. Just wish I had more time in Roatan.

The food on the other hand was only mediocre in the main dining room. The restaurants (upGrade) are definatly worth the extra money. Overall, I would sail again with Royal Caribbean. Now I know what to expect.

Great Trip by Dfcochran

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was a perfect cruise for my wife and I.  We rested and relaxed and enjoyed the nightly dinners.  I also enjoyed the daily sporting competions (putt putt, shuffleboard, ping pong, basketball) while my wife read a book.  Cozumel is your first port and I highly recommend the Cozumel 12 Metre America's Cup sailing adventure.  This trip allows you to actually work the sails and compete against another sailboat.  Just remember they "expect" you to work on this sailing adventure.  The 2nd port was Grand Cayman in which we did not take an excursion. We just walked around the shops near the port.  Final port was Jamaica which has a large "enclosed" shopping area.  This area was just as expensive as the shops on the boat.  We did venture out past the gates and quickly retreated as the locals are very pushy.  Be careful if you do leave.  The ship itself has been remodled and looked great.  Nightly shows were hit or miss, but the one we enjoyed the most was the ice dancing.  Make sure you get your tickets the day of embarkment.  Our only concern was not able to get a full meal after 9pm. They only have a small cafe that is open 24 hours a day and serve the same things all day (pizza, sandwiches and desserts)

We sail frequently, staff was impatient, service slow compared to others. Long lines, closed areas early, slow service at dinner, pool, and especially tenders.

Unbelievable by kentbalsley

They treat you like royalty on this ship. This was our first cruise, so we have no one else to compare it to, but when we book our next cruise it will be with Royal Caribbean. There was always someone there to assist you. The room attendant was excellent. The food was very good with many choices in the Windjammer restaurant. When on the ship there are plenty of things to do. Make sure you go to any of their shows you can. The ice dancing was beyond belief. You will not be bored. If you are booking a cruise pick this company.

Let's Do This Again!!!! by MichaelAnthony

Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was a family vacation cruise.  It's my second one and I had a great time.  The food was great and the ship was easy to get around.  My sister and I enjoyed the beer tasting activity.  Our cabin was kept clean by our porter (Orson) and the waiters (Andy and JunMar) took good care of us.  We weren't able to dine with our parents the first night because there was a mix-up in our table reservation, but Sebastiano was able to make arrangements and it was corrected.  We enjoyed the Solarium area - it was quiet and peaceful.  The shows were great.  We enjoyed the piano performance and the Ice Dancing show.  We enjoyed sandwiches and cookies served in the deli at night.

2014 Family Cruise by estellarflores

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had a terrific time on our cruise.  We travelled with our adult kids and I think they will be future cruisers. The ship was very clean and the food was delicious.  We had a great cabin porter (Orson) he kept our cabin very clean.  Our waiters (Andy and JunMar) were outstanding!  Our table (#290) early dining was always ready and they were awesome workers!  All the ship staff was very helpful and courteous.  There was something for everyone to do everyday.  We enjoyed all the shows, especially the ice dancing show.  The Solarium area was very relaxing because it was for adults only and we enjoyed being there.  My husband enjoyed watching the FIFA Soccer Games on the big screen while sun-bathing.  My kids enjoyed the beer tasting activity - the presenter was very informative and they went twice to this activity.  We found the interactive maps located on each deck very helpful in finding our way around.  We are looking forward to planning next year's family cruise.

Amazing cruise by janettekelley

This was a great cruise.  We had the most friendly people on this cruise.   All of the workers smiled and were so helpful the entire 7 nights of this cruise.  Whenever we needed anything we got it immediately and with a smile.  The only thing we wish they would change if the availablility of bottled water, or just water.  You had to go to the restaurant or a bar to get water, and I drink water all day long, so I would have liked to have water available on all the stateroom floors also.  The shows were wonderful, we had a great time when we attended anything on the ship.

Review of Navigator of the Seas by lisakestler

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We have been on four cruises. All the others were Carnival. This was our first Royal Caribbean. My only complaint was the food. Carnival had much better food. After we went to the shows I always like to go get a midnight snack. Carnival always had pizza, hamburgers or a midnight buffet to attend. Not to mention that Carnival has 24 hour ice cream that you don't have to pay extra for. Royal Caribbean was always shutting down their ice cream machines. And they were all completely shut down by 10pm. They should leave at least one open 24 hours. When I inquired why they shut down the ice cream machines I was told I could go to the Ben and Jerry's and get ice cream. I had already paid almost 7000.00 to be on the cruise ship, why would I want to then go and pay more for some overpriced ice cream?  That is just ridiculous. Also, the room service on Royal Caribbean had a service charge after midnight. Really? Again I had already paid thousands to be on the ship, I should not have to pay more to get some food after midnight.

Overall we had a fun time on the Navigator of the Seas but if a Royal Caribbean ship and a Carnival ship have similiar trips in the future I will pick the Carnival ship.

This was our first cruise; and it was not a good experience at all by debb119

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was our first cruise; and it was not a good experience at all

we called to book the cruise for our anniversary and the lady we spoke with said that she would make sure our room was decorated and other stuff for our celebration, the only thing we received was a piece of cake at one of our dinners.

We bought a drink package and you were not allowed to have a drink but every 15 minutes,  and were in the hot tub and when we went to get a drink all the bars on the deck was closed, this happened two separate nights, we should not have to do to another deck to get drinks at least one of the bars should have been open as long as there were people out there. Dr Pepper was not included in the drink packages so we had to pay for them

There was only one place on the whole ship to eat for free except for a small sandwich shop that was always packed due to nothing else being open, and no one wanted the sandwiches so everyone was eating cookies. If you were hungry after 9 you were out of luck because there was nothing open to get anything to eat

We paid for 12 zip lines in Rotan and only got to do 7, even though it was fun we should have gotten what we paid for or refunded some of our money since they cut it short.

The excursion on Belize was a total disaster, we were taken to an island that was 45 minutes away to snorkel, half of the equipment didn’t work so everyone was coming out of the water to blow up their   vest every 5 minutes or emptying water out of their masks because they would not seal right,  there was so many people at one time in a group you were being kicked in the face constantly,  half of the time we couldn’t see anything because it was too deep and all we saw was coral.  We were supposed to get a free drink and instead we got a cup of warm water and charged for soda. On our way back to the ship we lost an engine and were dead in the water and the boat that came to help us rammed the side of the boat, when we got back to the ship we were waiting for another boat to unload and another boat rammed into the side of us bringing one of the workers on the boat their lunch.  When we got back on the boat we took a tender to town and was standing in line to catch the last boat (3:30pm) back to the ship when we were told that 3 of the tenders had broken down so we had to stand in a long line in the heat with nothing to eat or drink because we didn’t know what time the last boat would be there, when we finally got back to the boat (5:00) we were starving and there was no place to get anything to eat until 6:30.

The whole way to Rotan it was announced several times to turn the clocks ahead an hour, we talked to several people that said they never heard it announced to turn the time back so when we reached Cozumel we missed our excursion and we thought we were 40 minutes early and there was no other one we could go on so our whole day was ruined and all we could do was sit around and wait for the ship to leave.

We bought the drink of the day several times so we could get the glass as a souvenir and were told that the glasses were not available because they were not delivered to the ship so we never got any glasses.

The beds were as hard as rocks and the rooms were hotter than heck so you couldn’t sleep, our shower would flood the bathroom every time we used it

The safe in our room broke 3 times and we had to wait in our room for someone to get there to fix it, after 30 minutes from the first call we called back to complain because we didn’t want to sit in our room all day waiting.

On formal night it should be formal not causal and on casual it should be causal not t-shirt and shorts.  Your website says what should be worn and if you don’t want to wear that you can go to another place to eat.

There was no smoking in the adult pool area so you had to walk to the other end of the kid’s pool area to smoke. There was no smoking on one side of Deck 5 but there was on the other side

All in all it was not a good first cruise so now we are not sure if we want to go again, maybe another cruise line is better

I enjoyed Carnival more. The service was great. I liked the special nights that Carnival has. Captain's Night on R.C. was nothing but taking pictures. There was no BIG show, no cool exhibits, it seems like everything cost extra. Eating after hours was very limited.

Family summer vacation June 2014 by DMS60

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had a fabulous time. The renovations on the Navigator of the Seas make it feel brand new. Love the layout of the ship and especially love the promenade. the ice show was very nicely done, along with the performance of the Texas Tenors. however they need to get better comedians did not enjoy them at all. the food at the Windjammer buffet was just average. the food in the dining hall was very good. Only ate at the Portofino specialty restaurant it was so good we ate there towo lunch times. The dining staff and our room steward were fabulous, as well as all of the other customer service we received on the ship very happy with it all. the spa is smaller than the last cruise I went on however the services were good and I was treated as if they knew me on a regular basis. enjoyed my first massage so scheduled a second one and also had a pedicure. love that they had a variety of unique little bars to go and sit and listen to different types of music and enjoy different drinks. We have gone on both Carnival and Royal Caribbean, Carnival 3times and his was our second Royal Caribbean. We will never go Carnival again. We will go Caribbean for all future cruises. we really like this ship and had a great time that we would sail on her again.

Guest Service Poor Customer Service by cornelliaj61

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Traveled aboard the Navigator of the Sea out of Galveston TX June 1st thur 8th ports of call Rotan, Belize and Cosumel. The enertainment, food, activities were less than I had expected after having traveled on the Royal Caribbean Allure ofthe Sea. There was a wave runner but no waterslide which was a downside for me since I was traveling with a child never the less he made some friends and enjoyed himself. The room attendant did not make the animal out of towels until I requested them and then only every other night. The main dining room staff as well as the wind jammer staff were Great! With that being said the Guest Service Staff which I had not ony my experience but witnessed when waiting in line was Anything But Customer Service. Not sure if it was a lack of training or not having the authority to make decisions to satisfy the customers. A Family at the counter had purchased the soft drink option but

could not get any service poolside but was asked to go inside for there soft drinks and for the price they paid had expected to receive  service poolside. I was shocked when Guest Services Rep asked them for there drink containers back like really they did receive a refund lacked service. I had  2 complaints the 1st was on the night before our toilets wouldn't flush no kinda warning via note on door, TV, or phone horrible we had a connecting cabin oceanview and theres wasn't working either. I called mainteance she stated they were working on it ok. I went to 10pm comedy show returned to room toilet had cleared thought problem had been taken care of only to find out once again after using it that it still was not working. I called again this time lady had attitude which is why i went to guest services and the fact that they should had left a note on the doors or had room attendant in hallway allerting guest to use restrooms in different areas at very least message on phone or TV. They offered a bottle of wine for our 2 cabins I explained we didn't drink she said well that is all we can do so they sent it to our cabins. Unless the wine was $3 a bottle they coud  given me a onboard credit. The other issue I had was at Johnny Rocket we had lunch there which was to include soda/soft drinks the soft drink machine was down not the waittress fault but the manager lack of customer service. It wasn't until we finshed our food after asking several times if they could get soda from another area that the manager said yes then we got the wrong soda. When I went to guest service I was told that the resturant manager woud have to call me luckily I was in the room when she  called. I explained that we choose to eat there for not only the food but also for the unlimted sodas which we didn't get to enjoy. There were 4 of us from 3 cabins she said I can refund 1 I said well there were 4 of us that had the same exerience she said well what do you want me to do the line to the machine was clogged and that wasnt'r  our fault I said it was not our fault either she said they would issue a refund. It didn't stop there 3 of us received a refund my daugher didn't when she went to Guest Services they told her no she had a shake she said no my mom did which was not the issue anway because I paid for the shake it was not included it wasn't until my older son went back with her (she was 18 by the way) that they issued refund.  Very dissapointed with Guest Services and there lack of service

I really enjoyed my cruise on the Navigator. The staff was very friendly and professional.I plan on another cruise next year . The only thing I would have liked more on  the ship is to have a coffee station on the decks where you can smoke.

Port of Galveston by jab0623

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This would have been 5 stars but upon arrival at The Port of Galveston the customer service agents were very rude.  After being dropped off, my daughter's husband had to park the car.  There was a party of 22 and we were made to stand out in the sun until he came back.  There was no organization at the port.

We took our grandson on his first cruise and choose Royal Caribbeen Navigator of the Seas for this adventure as we had not cruised with them before and now we are going to use them for all our cruises in the future . First of all we had one of their new rooms on deck 12 and it was as good as a suite for us the size and view, you could see all out over the front of the ship for miles .

Our room staff made us feel right at home and took great care our room and they even made little room animals it was always clean and comfortable .

Our dining staff were the top the line especially for me since I have a eating problem as I can't eat alot at a time and they worked with me to make sure I had all I needed even if it meant they had to bring different things  we hope to see them do well in life see them again.

We had a bad trip on Carnival shipline as they  lost luggge , took us to an different port not the one we paid to see but to Key West Fl and did'nt do anything about our ruined trip we will never sail Carnival cruiselines and will tell all our friends the story

Outstanding service by dkvoh2o

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We received unusually fine service from our waiter and his assistant on the cruise as well as from the room steward.  Our beverages were ready for us when we came to the table.  The food was servde in an attractive way and with a smile.  Our family of eight was greeted by name during the dinner.  Our room steward made sure that we had ice and a clean and inviting room.

We were disappointed that we no longer could receive a daily newsletter about the USA, Canada and Great Britain.  We also missed having a real library.  The books were few and there were no maps or reference books available.  We always enjoyed these service before on cruises with Royal Caribbean and Celebrity.  "Cut backs" perhaps?

Great cruise, but a little room for improvement. by PhoenixMom

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our dining room waiters Glenn and Jhonny were amazing! Glenn learned our "good names" and our idiosyncracies so quickly that we never had to ask him for anything it was already done. Overall the food was very good but sometimes just different than we are used to at home. Milton was our cabin attendant and he was amazing! Milton was there when needed and almost invisible other times so you didn't feel rushed or pressured to leave your cabin. The cleanliness of the ship was good and the employees tried their best to keep up with what I would say disrespectful slobby guests. I realize that everyone was on vacation but many guests never returned towels to the towel exchange area and would also leave uneaten food and trash with their many empty drink glasses everywhere. The area of improvement that affected me the most was the age ranges of the activities on board. The teen age range was 12-17 years old. As my 17 year old (2 weeks shy of 18) said "I don't want to hang out with 12 year olds!" Then the many sport related tournaments were for adults 18+. The coordinators of these events actually carded the guests and my 6'5" college age 17 year old son wasn't allowed to play a silly ping pong tournament with his siblings and father. I was told it was a legal issue from corporate and they couldn't have minors playing with adults. My suggestion to them was to have more family oriented tournaments or no age restrictions at all. Since we were a family traveling with 5 older kids (14,17,19.20,21 years old) we made the best of it and made our own mini golf tournaments and the like. We enjoyed the 3 excursions we booked from Royal Caribbean. The Royal Caribbean Excursion desk was great since we had prebooked and prepaid for our excursions they never questioned us when one of our family members fell ill and needed a refund for all 3 excursions. In Cozumel we enjoyed the historical tour of the Mayan ruins (minus the mosquitos!) and in The Grand Caymans the stingray snorkeling was so much fun and not scary at all. The Jamaican excursion was the most organized of all three ports. Yes The Dunn River Falls excursion can be a bit cheesy but I would still recommend it as I loved the rainforrest jungle experience since I am from Phoenix Arizona and don't get to see that kind of beauty.  Overall this was an amazing trip that I enjoyed immensely and would do again next week!
