Review summary

Would highly recommend. PLEASE consider older people like us who would enjoy a ship library that is not in a smokey corner. With the fascinating ports and with clientele somewhat older, an historical library would be appreciated.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food was excellent. Staff excellent. It would have been appreciated to have coffee in the dining rooms complimentary without the wait staff having to make a trip to the coffee bar.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We are more conservative in our likes and this particular cruise had a high percentage of elderly people. Would have been appreciated to have more activities for elderly.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The shows were top quality except we appreciate more clothing on the dancers. The violinest and two pianists were appreciated.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Room steward excellent job. Wait staff superb: from maitre D and host (Adrian and Achilles) to our waiters: Rustiawan and his assistant (from El Salvador - though I cannot remember his name - his work ethic was amazing! He was constantly working hard.)

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

Great!!

Ship tip

Hold on to your wallet TIGHTLY in Barcelona. We thought we were being careful, but apparently not - and it was the first hour of our arrival in Barcelona. Also - The "Blue Bus" is great and economical way to get from Ramblas Station (Christopher Columbus Statue) to the ship and back.

Ports of call

Barcelona, Spain

Sites great. Pickpocket stealing wallet and time spent at local Police Station with MANY other disillusioned travelers spoiled our impression of this beautiful city.

Valencia, Spain

Excursion: TOUR OF VALENCIA & SAN JOSE’ CAVES. Good.

Palma De Mallorca, Balearic Islands

5 out of 5
Loved it! Palma Bike Tour Incl Palma Cathedral & Parc de la Mar Morning Bike Tour w/Tapas (BIKEMONTAPAS). Carrer Gabriel Roca, 44. Palma on Bike Shop. Minutes walk from Terminal 2. (2 diff shops, must be 44)

Valletta, Malta

5 out of 5
Probably one of our favorite ports because of the historical significance (both in WWII and in Bible times). Did Malta Hop On Hop Off. Totally enjoyed lunch overlooking the water from high point and totally enjoyed historical presentation and firing of canons.

Messina, Sicily

5 out of 5
Loved it. MSC trip to Taormina. Beautiful views of Etna. Enjoyed tour guide.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

5 out of 5
Took a taxi and driver stayed with us all day. He took us to a local cafe. Enjoyed the local culture as well as the historical sites.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

5 out of 5
Took MSC trip to Florence (we had been to Pisa several years ago). The tour guide was excellent. Liked the combination of guided walking tour and time on our own.

Genoa, Italy

5 out of 5
Yes. Enjoyed historical walking tour. Found a local cafe for lunch. Very enjoyable.

Marseille (Provence), France

3 out of 5
Downside: Uber, etc, not allowed into port. Other ports allowed us to learn how to travel locally. Here we basically had to pay for the MSC shuttle (ok). Tell people it was a Sunday and the FREE shuttle NEVER showed up as described on Trip Advisor and other sites. Enjoyed the unbelievable beauty of both the building of Notre Dame and the view.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Top notch disembarkation.
