This was the first and last time I will sail on MSC cruise line.
Embarkation

Embarkation was standard procedure.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
1 out of 5
We dined at the buffet only for breakfast and dinner as most lunch meals were bought off the ship in ports of call. Food selection and preparation was terrible. I have been on more than a few cruises. My father got extremely sick for approx. 5 days and was treated in the medical center on the ship. We believe food, water or unsanitary water machines on the ship may have been the cause. The symptoms eventually were dealt with but he was unable to get off the ship at the Messina and Rome ports of call as a result.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
We attended the main stage show almost every night. A comedy club as on many other ships would've been a good addition.

Standard
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Our room steward was very accommodating especially during the days that my father was sick. One of the main chef's was also helpful. The doctor at the medical center instructed my father to eat dry food so he was helpful with preparing special plates and a supply of crackers.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
Layout and cleanliness of the ship overall was fine.
Cabin / Stateroom
2 out of 5
Biggest complaint about our cabin was the layout of the bunk beds. We occupied room 9068. Bunk beds were a safety hazard getting on and off the ladders because there is not enough room to get on and off the ladder without falling into the vanity/desk for the bunk bed on the right side of the room and the left side bunk bed had the minibar/TV stand in the way. Not even a child would be able to safely climb straight up or down on the ladder, let alone an adult. The protective railing on the bunks are not nearly long or high enough to keep a person safely sleeping on the bunk bed or the safety for the people sleeping on the full size bed directly below the bunks.
We flew to Barcelona and boarded the ship immediately. We did not explore Barcelona until our return. We made separate reservations at a hotel and explored on our own. Barcelona is a beautiful city!
We purchased 4 excursion tickets "Rome on your Own". However, due to my father getting so ill and being treated at the medical center, he was unable to use his ticket. I asked reception for a refund for his ticket only but they refused.
