Royal Carribean Western Cruise (Mariner by MarshaJ1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Mariner of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was clean and most of the people working on the ship friendly. They really need to work on improving the food on the buffet. This was our second time on this ship. We should have been invited to the captain's party as second time cruisers. However, we were told that we did not complete a form during our last cruise and were therefore not invited.

Vacation Paradise by JudyS17

Ship: Mariner of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The Mariner of the Seas was awesome. Everything was clean and inviting. The restaurants were beautiful, as well as offering diverse and interesting menu options. The staterooms are clean and neat, and the beds surprisingly comfortable. The gym was well-equiped and made exercising easier with an inviting view of the ocean. Johnny Rockets was fun and the food was delicious, especially those onion rings. Yum! The restrooms were well-marked, clean, and conviently located. The casino was a bit too smokey, but lots of fun. We hit Ben and Jerry's a "few" times. We enjoyed drinks every night before dinner at Ellingtons. We found outside tables at Wig & Gavel for both parades on the Promenade. We were able to obtain great seats for "Ice Under the Big Top". The shops were great and offered a wide variety of merchandise. I purchased a beautiful ring. The T-shirts I bought for gifts were better quality and better priced than what I found elsewhere. All-in-all it was an great trip! I would recommend Mariner of the Seas and Royal Caribbean to my friends.

A Spectacular Cruise! by RebeccaP4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Mariner of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We cruised on the 'Mariner of the Seas' and all we can say is "WOW!" Being our first cruise we didn't know what to expect and holding it to its highest regard we wanted it to be the best vacation ever being it was our honeymoon. With the ship just in sight we were in awe. From boarding our first day to departing our last day it was smooth sailing to say the least. Every day there is a 'cruise compass' giving you events and activities occurring on the ship by the hour and/or half hour, and trust me there is always something going on for all types! The facilities from bathrooms to pools to jacuzzies to your stateroom they were clean and tidy, giving them 5 stars (in a rating from 1-5, 5 being the best). We personally scheduled 'main seating' dining, giving us plenty of time during the day for our excursions and exploratories and then after dinner time to relax in the Schooner Bar (piano bar) before going to the 'main seating' show usually starting at 9:00. All the shows were fabulous from the vocalists to Royal Caribbean dancers to the juggler to the ventriloquist; high energy, full of laughter and entertainment that will keep your conversation going for hours afterwards. We were on the western caribbean cruise stopping at Labadee (Royal Caribbean's Personal Island), Ocho Rios Jamaica, Grand Cayman Islands, Cozumel Mexico. All were fabulous! We had shore excursions planned for Jamaica being Dunns River Falls and then shopping afterwards which were both fabulous and interesting to see life in another country; Cozumel Mexico - snorkeling excursion aboard a catamaran, where we snorkeled, they served drinks (alcoholic and non alcoholic) after snorkeling and took us to a private beach where there were plenty of 'free' activities to do. The crew members on board the catamaran had great personalities, everyone danced to music on the boat and enjoyed the ride back with the captain who drove the boat with his foot. Best suggestion for shore excursions is to not overbook yourself, give yourself something to do to see the island and what lies beneath, and relax. For Grand Cayman, I would definitely suggest a shore excursion, Seven Mile Beach is beautiful but a long walk from port and if you want to just relax on the beach, once you get into port you can take a taxi to Seven Mile Beach for $4.00/person US dollars. The staff on the cruise ship were impeccable and the service is fit for a king and queen. The Windjammer Buffet is deceiving, it might be called a 'buffet' and buffet style as in you get your own food but there is all types of food, fruits and vegetables. definitely not cafeteria style. One last informative detail, there might be small lines while waiting to get your picture taken before dinner every night but they die down after main seating dinner and they are definitely worth the time and money! All and all, hands down to Royal Caribbean for making it the vacation and honeymoon of a lifetime. We are already planning our next cruise!

Some Good, some real bad by ScottW

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Mariner of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Me and my wife enjoyed the cruise for the most part. We brought our 2 yr old daughter this time and there isn't very many programs setup for this age. The first day at sea was rough as we had 54mile an hour winds and rain. Labadee was nice but, Montego Bay was disgusting. The bus service was beyond poor and the ship did very little to correct ti. The people were rude, pushy and downright touching you the whole time. We missed Grand Caymen and were not compensated at all. The best day was Cozumel, the weather was nice and we had a great time. I had some kind of respiratory infection on the ship but it cleared up the next day we got back. We had a good time but, usually we have a great time. The Casino was very stingy and I think they should of offered to cancel the cruise because of all the itinerary changes. We are going to try Carnival next time but, we usually love RC.

Mariner of the Seas is a beautiful ship. It has a lot of interesting, unique art work on the bow and stern stairwell landings. The promenade street down the center of the ship is abuzz with people most of the time. It's a great place to relax with a beverage or ice cream treat and people watch.

the ship shows signs of age but is very nice;atrium concept/promenade is very nice as well; no midnight buffets; many lounges close early; dining room staff very pleasant and accomodating but food was just average; cabin steward was awesome; limited activities on sea days; pushy barstaff always trying to sell beverages; very efficient in getting passengers on and off the ship; room service staff was horrible; purser's desk / other hotel staff were not very accomodating or nice; cruise director staff was nice and pleasant; good value considering price paid

A truly relaxing wonderful experience by TrudyV

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Mariner of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was my initial cruise with Royal Caribbean, and my seventh cruise overall. The ship far exceeded my expectations. Outstanding service and amenities. Especially impressed with the adult pool, as there were many children aboard, but never did I feel they interfered with my experience or I with theirs. The diversity of Promenade shops was interesting and enticed my shopping "itch". Daily activities were well noted and varied..no chance to get "bored". The spaciousness of our cabin and storage space assured one can unpack once and completely enjoy! The only disappointment was the product of my shoping on Labadee. Being owned by the cruuise line, I assumed all products were going to be fine for taking home. Wooden products are individually inspected by a customs agent, who found tiny pin holes in a mahogany salad bowl purchased at one of the vendors on Labadee. The agent informed me that these holes represent an investation of beetles which cannot be allowed into the country, because the holes did not go completely through the wood, thus the beetles remain inside. My personal responsibility for shopping was influenced by the fact that Royal Caribbean sponsored this island retreat and I presumed complete integrity of all its products. I reported this instance to the cruise line customer service and I hope the future will provide some typeof solution for future cruisers.

Mariner of Seas GREAT Carribean trip by BillP2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Mariner of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This is a large well designed class of ship and combined with the ports of call a can't miss vacation. I spent around 10,000 dollars total when you add in clothing, travel and shop-board charges but it was fun!!

Aaaaaah! Peace at last! by AnnieW1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Mariner of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

i really needed this vacation! there were only a couple of things that ticked me off, but i thought they were big. after giving the purser a substantial amount of cash money (more than i could have reasonably spent on board) i was refused a couple of hundred dollars to spend off ship. i was not informed of this policy, and never experienced it before on any other of my 13 cruises.
