Review summary

Mariner of the Seas is a beautiful ship. It has a lot of interesting, unique art work on the bow and stern stairwell landings. The promenade street down the center of the ship is abuzz with people most of the time. It's a great place to relax with a beverage or ice cream treat and people watch.

Ports of call

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Again, I clicked on a rating so I could comment. We stayed on board and watched our grandkids swim while their parents went souvenier shopping in port. From the looks of what they brought back, it was good. Water taxi fare is $6 per person, round-trip, to get from the pier to town.

Cococay (Cruise Line's Private Island)

I had to click on a rating in order to post a comment. We have tried 3 times to get to Cococay. This time we didn't make it due to Hurricane Hannah which was a truly valid reason, but in Jan. they rerouted us to Nassau due to some electrical problem which they told us about several weeks prior to the cruise. Another time we were told upon boarding that we wouldln't go there because a thruster wasn't working properly. The first two times we were given a "free drink" as compensation for not going to CocoCay. Does Cococay actually exist, or is it a "carrot on a stick" which the cruise line holds in front of its passengers?

We love St. Thomas for the great shopping and for the excellent beach at Magen's Bay. Lots of soft sand and no waves. Taxi fare is $8 each way, per person, and beach admittance is $4

Don't Miss: Off the beach snorkeling is better at Cokie Beach or Secret Harbor.

Pros: shopping/promenade area

Cons: not enough contests & group physical activities
