The Medallion is genius! We were with two other couples and we could message each other and see where everyone was for meet ups. A HUGE flaw with the Medallion is that there are no alert notifications of messages which delayed communication between us because it wasn't practical to regularly check the app.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Very efficient considering the process needed to board so many people and luggage.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Cruises are supposed to be known for their great tasting food. It was average at best. I can eat "healthy" at home. I want to get spoiled on my cruise and eat GREAT tasting food. Especially the deserts which is where most of the disappointment was. In their defense, I'm from Louisiana and my food taste expectations are very high.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
EXTREMELY disappointed that there wasn't a cigar humidor shop/smoking bar...this is a cruise ship for relaxing! Loved The Enclave (thermal suite with hydro-therapy pool, sauna, steam room). But it was expensive and became crowded at times due to it's limited size.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
It's nice that there were options available throughout the days. Individual taste, obviously, but most were entertaining and some just weren't my "cup of tea".
Children's Programs
Didn't bring kids.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Most were incredible but you could tell that a few were tired and ready to go home.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Everything looked great.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
It was what I expected. We planned on spending most of our time out of the room so we didn't need a whole lot of extra room. Our steward, Philip, kept it cleaned up and greeted us by name each time we encountered each other. The TV remote and TV were not user friendly. Oh, and the wife was upset there weren't any towel animals on the bed.
Ship tip
Go to the enclosed pool and observation deck at the front of the boat. We didn't go to it until the 5th day.
Clean city but the vagrants spitting loogies before your feet is absolutely disgusting! I didn't like having a knife pulled on me and the assailant following us for 5 blocks either. On a positive note, when I called for police assistance a patrol unit arrived within 2 minutes.
Didn't get close to it at all and was extremely disappointed when I figured out that the commentary about the glacier was prerecorded. How did I figure it out? Because it was praising the captain for getting us so close. I'm not even sure I was actually seeing it it was so far away.
Liked the excursion itself but was pissed off that the excursion driver brought us back to the boat 1 and a half hours early after stating that he/we need to get back in time for re-embarkation. We would have rathered walked around the town/shops for that time.
First Princess cruise??? I have cruised on many Princess ships and enjoyed all of them. Princess doesn't do towel animals and to be honest, I could care less if they don't, since towel animals is not the reason I cruise. I always found tge food served at the buffet and MDR to be tasty with few complaints, cause sometimes , some entrees on buffet can be a bit bland. I doubt that the announcements were pre recorded, and the ship rarely gets get closer of a mile or less due to ice. This is the reason to always bring high powered binoculars when viewing the glaciers.
