Review summary

Alaska was beautiful as usual. Weather wasn’t as warm as previous trips, but still lovely. Captain Bye Bye made the trip very special by getting us up close to glaciers, and announcing whales, seals, and other wildlife as we cruised. We saw more wildlife then ever before. One of the best crew we’ve experienced.

Embarkation

Vancouver embarkation day was a breeze. Our vaccination status and Covid tests were viewed, got our medallions and were on our way…maybe 10 minutes total. Love the prearranged check in times! Only glitch was that our original check in time was 1030, and a few weeks before the cruise, it was no longer on the app. I rescheduled for 1130, and due to circumstances, that worked out for the best. Our luggage also arrived to our room within an hour!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
MDR very good….few items not up to par, but all in all, delicious. An alternative meal was provided quickly! Felt like a burger one night, and ordered it in the MDR, even tho it wasn’t on the menu! New menu was a nice change. Nice to try different items. Buffet was pretty good….didn’t eat there a lot. Often had morning treats at the International Cafe. Can’t go wrong there! Crown Grill was delicious as always! Nice Lobster Roll at the Burger bar on the pool deck. Loved the Medallion app for ordering food and drinks to be delivered to you anywhere on the ship!

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Hollywood Conservatory indoor pool and hot tubs were great for Alaska. The individual areas with seating areas in the Hollywood Conservatory were awesome. Each area had seating for 2-6 people, with physical distancing built right in! Being at the front of the ship and up high, was perfect for viewing Alaska! Enjoyed the navigational talk by one of the Officers, as well as several talks by the naturalist. As always, totally enjoyed the Libby Riddles presentation. Didn’t seem like there were as many activities as usual tho.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Princess Singers and band were very good! Their performances were stunning…..and one of them was their premiere show! The musicians around the ship were generally good. The comedian was a let down. Not as many performances as usual, but, things are still not at 100% post Covid.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
I have never seen such a positive crew. Always a “good morning”, happy to chat, kind and helpful. Every need and desire was met from all staff. We sailed with Captain Bye Bye, who visits guests every day around the ship, and is engaging, kind, and funny. I believe his staff model his demeanour. Love when he plays “The Love Boat” theme when we leave a port. He did a “Coffee with the Captain” talk one morning for about an hour. He was hilarious and very personable. He shared all sorts of stories and answered questions from the audience.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship was always being cleaned, and I love this class of ships!

Cabin / Stateroom

Room was as nice, as expected. Love having a balcony for Alaska…..almost always something to see! We had a small couch that was uncomfortable as it was a pull out, and didn’t seem to go back in correctly. Even tho we were told evening turn down service wouldn’t occur, several times it was freshened.

Ship tip

Definitely use the Hollywood Conservatory.

Thanks for the nice review. We are heading on the same voyage next month. One question though. Did you have to get a Covid test for the return leg? Thanks
