Review summary

My husband and I are in our early 50"s and were excited to see Alaska.  We felt the ship to be boring while out at sea.  Had the entertainment at night been better we would have left with a more satisfied feeling.  Just really disappointed with Royal Caribbean because they are usually top of the line for entertainment.  Ship was beautiful, staff amazing and food good.  Only recommend going in June or July so the pool area can be utilized more.  Too cold in August for us to use if you are hoping to bask in the sun:)

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Windjammer seemed to have same food offered each day. The dining experience was great.

Onboard Activities

Depending on your age, this will decide how you rate this. This ship has a wonderful children's program. There was not much my husband and I found interesting to do daily.

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Absolutely boring. Had a juggler first night that was fair. Then another night was a 2 man comedy juggling team. Really??? Another juggling show. Comedian was funny. Worst was an impersonator that was terrible. Actually was in shock over what Royal Caribbean hired to entertain us with on this cruise.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
Did not use but saw the place reserved for the children. Great program.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We had exceptional staff servicing us in all areas.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Very clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
Our room was partially obstructed with the lifeboats below us. We were directly above a bar so we heard every word and entertainment music until midnight or 1 am. If you are one who likes to retire early, do not choose this room. It was spacious and really nice.

Ship tip

If going to watch one of the movies you need to go early. Small cinema that fills fast.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

Going into the city and walking through the market place was fun. Crazy traffic!

Cruise Inside Passage, Alaska

Freezing on front deck but worth every moment! Dress warmly (gloves, hat) . This is worth getting there at 6:00 am!

Juneau, Alaska

Not much to see. We took hike and were amazed with the scenery. Do not underestimate the ability needed for this hike! a 500 ft climb uphill!! 3.5 miles long. Dress in layers.

Skagway, Alaska

5 out of 5
Our favorite. Sit on left side of train because right side misses everything exciting until train reverses and not the same seeing it on way downhill. Go outside and breathe the air!! Incredible! Walk through the town and enjoy the past experience.

Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska

5 out of 5
Get out front early to have a good clear view. Dress warm, it felt like a blizzard should have been blowing on us. Words do not describe view of mountains and scenery.

Victoria, British Columbia

Took bus to view city and see the castle. Beautiful.

We had a blast! We are both 50 and we knew exactly what to expect. Royal has not let us down yet. Cruising to Alaska from Seattle end of August your gonna get cold rainy weather. I too recommend the Caribbean and maybe the Freedom Class.
