Dining room staff. Jink and Joyce were excellent.  Very personable and made each meal enjoyable.

Jenny, at the coffee bar, was always quick with a smile and service.

First time crossing the Atlantic, want to do it again! by Cruiser276

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Transatlantic

Despite airline/luggage situation (recommend arriving a few days EARLY to cover unforeseen situations) we arrived bleary eyed but ready to take on Italy. Latest reno on Island Princess proved to be successful as we acquired one of the "newly added" suites and definitely enjoyed the extra cabin space and full bathroom, although we miss the lounges and pool removed from the rear of this ship. Crew was upbeat and accommodating, unfortunately there were quite a few people passing colds and flu around (both of us got one as a souvenir). Exciting to visit Europe the first time although quite strenuous packing day-long tours on top of each other. Met great table-mates for dinner. Also had super weather until the Azores and during the crossing, to be expected in November. Green apples worked great! Age of guests may have been the reason the activities were not well offered or attended, we have only Caribbean cruises to compare to for that. Ready to go again and visit more ports around the world!

Great Itinerary - but lots of sick passengers by ColoradoSteve

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Transatlantic

We love the Med, and enjoyed the Island Princess. Unfortunately, there were a ton of passengers and staff that came down with colds and flu (NOT norovirus).  I developed a nagging cough the day we left the Azores for the 6 day Transatlantic Crossing, and did not attend dinners in the dining room or shows in the theater for those 6 days.  I used Dayquil and Nyquil to control my symptoms and didn't cough around other people - but everywhere I went, people were hacking. As I write this from home 3 days later, I still have a cold and cough.  My wife got a more severe cold as we were leaving the ship.  She developed body aches and a fever on our arrival at home.  I'm mad that other passengers didn't stay in their rooms when they were sick.  I just cancelled a 20 day cruise in February because I'm not going through this again.

Mediterenean and Transatlantic cruise by rminuskin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Transatlantic

YummyThe food was very good and there were no lines at the buffet.

There was nobody from the crew to organize a bridge game. Princess relies

on the passengers to organize it.

Everything on the ship was top notch.  The staff does everything it can to make your trip special.  Always trying to please and/or get whatever you need.  Would definitely cruise with them again.

We took this cruise to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary.

The Island Princess crew met all of our expectations, they were friendly, helpful and motivated. The food was great and the entertainment staff was super. The ports of call were excellent and the tours we took with Princess were organized well.

Island Princess Grand Med. Cruise by beranekjcd

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

The itinerary ruled on this trip.  The ports were great.  Almost all the excursions were wonderful with good guides. The food on Princess in the dining rooms was excellent.  Anytime diners need to know that after 8 pm you will likely have to wait to be seated (up to 45 minutes)  Go earlier if you want to avoid. Balcony room on deck 11 was good. Not so good was the entertainment and the food in the Horizon court buffet, but breakfast was the best.  There were signs of plumbing issues (sewer smells at some spots, floods over carpets, etc.)  Deck lounge chairs were lacking--they need to get more.  Overall, I think the Island Princess is due for a refurbishment next year. I believe this is one of their older ships.

fabulous by vprescott3

The cruise was wonderful. The room was spectacular. The service was prompt and friendly. The food was superb, especially in the Bordeaux dining room and Sabotini's. The Princess tours were excellent too. Just wish it was longer! The only negative was that I was unable to get a lounge chair in the pool area, each of the days that I tried. Adding more lounge chairs in the sun areas of Deck 14 would be good.

Once in a lifetime cruise by lsrom335

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

What an amazing time!!! We have been on 15+ cruises and I can safely say this was one of the top three.  We saw 10 beautiful ports in twelve days.  Weather was great, except a little rainy in Venice. Naples - Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast was our favorite.  Venice was terrific except for the rain.  We would have liked to have had more time there.

Very disappointing by ScottTell

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

This was our tenth cruise, and by far and away the worst.

Most of the common toilets in the ship didn't flush and of the people that we went on the trip with, their cabin 's didn't work for most of the trip.  Our friends floor kept flooding and they couldn't make it stop and wouldn't change the cabin or fix the leak.  The entertainment, if you would call it that, was not fit for a Holiday Inn, which when there are 3 sea days built into 11 days, entertainment is important.

When problems came up and we went to speak with the Pursers office, they actually rolled their eyes!

When you add in the cost of the crusie with the cost of the flights, we spent in excess of $15,000 dollars just for the two, which is a great deal of money for way below standard returns.

A good experience but... by eeharbo

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Transatlantic

We intended to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary with a memorable cruise from Ft Lauderdale to Venice, Italy.  Although we knew that this was this ship's last cruise before dry dock, from the beginning  things did not go as smoothly as expected.  First, the luggage problem.  We arrived by means of a taxi from the airport and could not find where to drop our luggage.  At the end my wife and I ended up taking our luggage all the way to our cabin because the port personnel nor the ships' staff assisted us with it.  Although we maintained a positive attitude throughout the voyage, we have never been so uncomfortable with a cruise before.  The ship seemed tired as judged by its maintenance and the energy of its crew.  For example, a refrigerator in the room was completely inoperable but the maintenance technician stated it was normal.  I could have had the refrigerator replaced but opted not for the aggravation.  From then on we were not surprised by all other incidents encountered throughout the sailing.  As we began dragging our luggage we ended dragging our luggage from the ship to a tram about 500 yards away from the ship in Venice to the Piazzole in Venice to pick up a rental vehicle.  We must have gotten a good deal on the voyage but we paid dearly for the extras.  I will have to make it up to my wife because we did not enjoyed this anniversary as we did with Holland America during our 35th anniversary.  I got what I paid for.

Not what she used to be. by vikmc

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

I have cruised  on the Island Princess before.  It was very obvious how greedy the cruise business is getting.  The food selection at the buffet was  minimal.  I had told the Sartins , who traveled with us,  not to bring Q-tips and cotton balls. Got to our cabin and  had neither of either.  Will not take this ship, and seriously will think twice about Princess Cruises.

Awesome Experience and Vacation. Can't wait for the next trip! by esartin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

This was our first cruise.  The service, hospitality and variety of daily activities was beyond what I expected.  This cruise had so many wonderful and exciting things, that it is difficult to know where to start.  The food, the shows, activities, staff, ...the entire experience was one I will never forget or regret.  I recommend that this cruise be on everyone's "bucket list".  We had such an awesome experience it was hard to have it come to an end.   Already to book our next cruise!

We celebrated our 25th anniversary on this trip and it was amazing. The other done fall we found with was on the excursions. We had no idea the bus rides where going to be so long and we never got to visit some of the ports. But all and all we had a great time on this trip. We are planning our next one. That one will be Alaska land and sea

Trip of a lifetime by lindajray192

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We always wanted to visit Alaska and see the glaciers, and this was the best way to do it. We had sunny weather in the 70s in each port and got to see plenty of wildlife--a bear with 2 cubs and bald eagles and blue heron in Ketchikan, humpback whales in a pod of 9 bubble feeding, and dog sledding in the Yukon from Skagway. We always love the nightly show entertainment on Princess in the theater. It was great choosing to eat Alaskan salmon in some form nearly every day.

Great cruise! All the service was top notch-waiters, room stewards, bartenders, & photgraphers. Beautiful scenery and tons of wildlife. The balcony room is definately worth the extra money.

An almost perfect cruise by h20sprite

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

We have never been on a cruise, and never wanted to go on one, but concluded this would be the most effective way of seeing Alaska.  Turns out it's really easy to get used to this kind of travel.

Our balcony stateroom was large, clean and very well laid out.  The restaurants and common areas were attractive and convenient and the food, at times exquisite, was almost always very good.  There were plenty of free programs and activities during "at sea" days and the staff was unfailingly helpful and friendly.

We chose the "anytime dining", and were glad we did.  We only had to wait for a table once (best to make a reservation on formal night) and our table companions were almost always congenial and interesting.  The food in the Bordeaux Dining room was wonderful and every day there was something new and exciting.

Afternoon tea quickly became a necessity as well:  tea, delicious pastries and small sandwiches and a chance to hear about all the exciting things other passengers have been seeing and doing.

The buffet breakfasts, and the special lunches (sushi, seafood, Taste of Alaska) were a different matter, focus being more on quantity than quality, but were still mostly quite good.  The coffee, however, was rather awful, and it got less attractive as the cruise wore on.  Tea and ice tea were always available, but you had to pay for anything else.

The real star of the show, however, was Alaska.  We took an excursion in every port and were glad we did.  We experience whales, eagles and glaciers and learned about Native Alaska Culture and Alaska history.  Every morning when I opened my eyes, there was Alaska in all it's glory, and every day it only got more splendid.

This was the most expensive trip we have ever taken, and it was worth every penny.
