Independence of the Seas

14 Night Mediterranean Highlights (Southampton Roundtrip)

Review summary

This cruise ship states 5star but it’s not, more like 3 star. The pamper packs in bathroom gone, universal dispenser’s in shower you don’t get that in a 5 star Hotel but we are paying 5 star prices. They have stopped you from using the tv to check your account or order room service. Not impressed. We have sailed with P&O and RCI many times over the last 12 years standards have dropped and prices gone up and up. We are thinking of trying Cunard next hope food and service is better for our money.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
We had to wait quite a while due to problem with people’s cases.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Did not use main dining, used wind jammer instead, wind jammer looks great now very fresh looking lots of space. Food at the beginning of the cruise was not bad but towards the end the same food day after day the food was just warm.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The only thing we tried was the new mimi golf, it was great when you could get to use it very busy on warm days. Best time to use the mini golf is meal times not very busy then.

Entertainment

Had quite a lot of cruises with RCI so seen all the shows, so stayed in room instead and let other people see them.

Children's Programs

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Been on Indy many times but this time the staff looked tired and over worked.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
We had a large balcony room, we love the layout, the bed next to the window 😊

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
We are always on deck seven but this time we tried deck six. You can notice slight movement more than deck 7 but not much and I noticed that you could hear the sea through the closed sliding doors but I loved that. I must admit the position of this cabin was fantastic, I just came straight out of the cabin turned the corner 1 flight of stairs and was on Main Street, no waiting for lifts.😊

Ship tip

Mini golf, go at mealtimes it’s not very busy.

Ports of call

Southampton (London), England Did not visit port

Gibraltar (U.K.)

3 out of 5
Very quaint little place but not a lot to do after seeing monkeys, caves and shopping.

Villefranche-Sur-Mer, France

3 out of 5
Just got off and walked around, last time we came we waited for a train ages no one told us they were on strike. Wasted half a day.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

5 out of 5
We didn’t look round the town but got the train through RCI to Rome fantastic only took 50 mins to get there. Rome I love it can’t get enough of Rome.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

5 out of 5
Didn’t do the port town this time but is real nice , I went on the train to Florence instead through RCI this was good too.

Toulon, France Did not visit port

Did not get off they were charging 18 dollars for the water shuttle and it was a Sunday so most shops closed at 1pm not worth it. Went to it in April this year with P&O water shuttle boat was a lot cheaper, nice place.

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
Did our own thing, love this place, the old food market is a must. So much going on in Barcelona.

Lisbon, Portugal

5 out of 5
Did our own thing, lots to see.

Vigo, Spain

5 out of 5
Love Vigo, shopping, shopping .

Grandmarnnurse. This is not a Fake review, it’s a honest review at night we did stay in the room watched films on our laptop. We have seen the shows loads of times, story book I loved but after seeing it 2 didn’t want to watch again. We had a large room with balcony so didn’t need to go out. This is our 2nd cruise this year to the med. went on P&O Azura we don’t go now for the ship we just go on it to get to different ports. So we just relax in our room. So no this is not a Fake review.

We went on the cruise before. Agree that the production shows have been on this ship for a long time, e.g. dance show and fairy tale show. They do tend to get the same headliner acts coming back time and time again. We do still watch the music tribute type acts as you can just enjoy the music. I know that some of the shows cost a lot of money to set up but some of the evening entertainment is overdue for a revamp.

Something doesn’t sound right with this review. Fake review? So all the shows, so just stayed in room??
