Don't sail on this ship if you want excellence in food.
Beware of the duty free gimmick. If you purchase anything over your allowance the ship reports it to customs when you land and you will pay a duty tax. THey tell you it's a random selection but you are tagged before you leave the ship. Do all your expensive shopping in ports of call. This is dishonest to try to dupe you into making purchases.
Make your dinner reservations when you get on board at the main dining room entrance. Even if you don't show up for that time it will save you any waiting. The larger your party the more difficult to get a table for everyone when you want it. Harmony has about 3 sit down restaurants for free.
book everything in advance. you can always change stuff when you are aboard. download the RC app. bring lots of sunscreen. no "drug" type store on ship only VERY minimal items in one store. You do not have to wear formal attire if you do not want to. it may be fun to dress up but it is not necessary - you can wear shorts.
TIP THE CREW!! Don't be cheap! They work hard to make sure you have a memorable cruise vacation. A few bucks won't kill you
It's big! You simply will not get to everything. Don't get overwhelmed - plan!
Definitely get the alcohol package. Definitely try some or all of the specialty dining options.
I made all of our on board entertainment reservations and dinner reservations prior to arriving. This made things much easier I also downloaded the Royal IQ app.
If you need help with excursions once you are on the ship, ask for Gerrson...he was very nice and informative.
Do not miss Columbus...one of the best productions on land or sea!
Consider Windjammer for sit down meals. The main dining has helpful wait staff, but can't beat the Windjammer view
Don't forget a rain coat, walkie talkies to keep up with one another, dining room dinner is about 2 hours so dine early if you want to make the 8 pm shows. Take the stairs, elevator lines can be long! Must make reservations for shows before you board or you may not get to see them all.
Not surprising given the size of the ship, but there were a lot of people on the ship. Having a cabin on a floor close to where you spend the bulk of your time can help save time if you can take the stairs up or down a flight VS having to wait on one of the elevators.
