Grandeur of the Seas from Baltimore (Cruise fire) by funfamily4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

My husband and I along with our 2 children ages 13 and 7 decided to cruise with Royal Caribbean to the Bahamas May 24th thru May 31st, 2013. The ship was just renovated and looked very elegant. We had previously cruised out of Tampa on Carnival Legend and thought that ship was very gaudy/showy in comparison. RC had a giant screen TV on the pool deck playing song video's., everyone on deck seemed to enjoy this. Another difference we noticed, was that everywhere on the ship that you heard music, it was live. It did however seem that there were alot of "extra" expenses (like restaurants, starbucks, ice cream that were NOT included in the cruise). On our previous Carnival trip, the music was from speakers, etc, not live. But there were a lot of extras that WERE included (like sushi everyday at 5pm). On day 4 of our trip, a fire started on the cruise in the aft of the ship. We reported to our muster station immediately and the staff/crew did everything they could to help everyone. I cannot say enough of how great they were helping people who were sick, in shock, fainting, etc. They brought blankets and water/soda to the passengers and kept us informed every 30 minutes or so. When the fire was out, they allowed us to go to our room to rest because we had been on the muster deck for 4 1/2 hours. We are so thankful to the staff for all their help during that very scary time. Later that day, we ate with the crew/staff because their areas had been damaged by the fire (everyone was SO nice). They diverted us to Freeport, Bahamas and we decided to go to Taino beach (which was absolutely beautiful...highly recommend). Watch out for sea urchins in the water though, my little one got some needles stuck in his foot. We hired a taxi and paid $7.00 per person to get there....but they required us to pay for the return up front and gave us vouchers for the return. Back at the port, we hit Senor Frogs (fun, fun, fun - highly recommend). I would definately recommend "Royal Caribbean".....Grandeur of the Seas to anyone wanting to cruise. In fact, we've already booked our next cruise to Bermuda in August 2013.

Cruise Ship Fire on May 27, 2013 by LindaHarrison

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

It was around 3am on Monday Morning when I was awaken by my husband yelling "get up, get up". "We have to get to our Muster Station; there's a fire!" Still groggy, I thought I was dreaming but no mistaking, it was a fire drill with lights blaring, horns blowing, the sound of people being rushed down the hall and loud voices directing people back to the Muster Station which we had just been at only 3 short days ago "in case of an emergency!". With the disaster of the Carnival Triumph being fresh on our minds, we grabbed everything out of the safe and hightailed it to Deck 5, Muster Station 4. Thank GOD we found our daughter and her husband already there, with her crying her eyes out. I was able to comfort her long enough till they lowered the lifeboats which then caused me concern. For 3 long hours we stood, listening to the Captain and crew tell us the fire was not yet under control. There was a cruise ship circling us and the Coast Guard was aware and nearby. Never was there a moment of panic among the crew or passengers. Pure professionalism and order. You would have assumed kaos with over 2,200 passengers and over 600 crew but it was as calm as the sea. The elderly got chairs; the sick got bags; anyone needing their medication got retrieved by the crew; water and soda was distributed and you were walked to the restroom if absolutely necessary. I found myself engaged in a conversation with a family from Canada, so the time seemed to slip by. How could this happen after having a beautiful day on Sunday in Cape Canaveral at Cocoa Beach? It wasn't until 7am that the Captain released us back inside. Thank goodness the weather had been warm and comfortable. We were flown back to Baltimore on Tuesday morning (after a beautiful day on Monday in Freeport Bahamas) with a flight Royal Caribbean had chartered. Believe it or not, I'm looking forward to our next cruise adventure with the only cruiseline I will ever book, ROYAL CARIBBEAN!

Cruise of Granduer of the Sea by Dianestout

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

The crusie was excellent. the food food was fabulous. the service without a doubt EXCELLENT. Ship is beautful the only problem was the tipping process. They take a automatic tip of $12.00 plus graduity for each order. drinks, gifts photos everything we were charged twice this is not fair. I'm very unhappy about the way this was done without telling us. I question the cashier and she said that the additional tip if for cabinet attendant, waiters and assistant waiters. Several years ago i cruised on Majestey of the Sea everything was charged at the end of the trip. These charges were changed daily. My husband and i spoke to many cruises and they all were very upset about this surprise charge. Please be up front with your customers about your gratuity charges. Some even said they pay gratutity charges in the advance bill and then again on the ship. This is not right your may lost a lot of cruiser this way. But i do Royal Carribean and i will sale again.

Cruise from Baltimore to Bermuda by rcveale

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

The food was outstanding, the service excellent, and the entertainment was great. It would be difficult to improve on the trip. The exit was also well planned. Getting on the ship was slow and I had to stand in line for more than an hour. Maybe this could be improved, and I am not happy you (or maybe the government security people) who took from me my 1.5-inch blade pen knife. A broken wine bottle, or even a full one, would seem to be a more lethal weapon. And have you really had problems with people stealing coat hangers? Is that the reason for the annoying anti-theft type in the state rooms? These were minor irritations. The cruise was very enjoyable and I plan to go again - without my pocket knife.

Great Time by Luv2Cruise16

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

I enjoyed the cruise to Bermuda. It was nice to have more than one day in a port of call. New menu introduced this cruise by Royal Carribean which included great food comparable to the pay restaurants onboard. Staff was excellent, went over and above to please us. My family and I had a great time, and really enjoyed ourselves. We brought along one family member who had not cruised before and she really enjoyed herself and cant wait to go on another cruise.

Relax, enjoy, smile and be happy! by MarieBell

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

My husband of 34years, and I sailed out of Baltimore on May 10, 2013. We had such a good time. Everyone treated us so well and the weather was grand. We enjoy the time to reconnect and enjoy being a couple without interruption from the outside world. No worries and the pace was at our level of need. It could be as much of as little as our activity level would allow us to be. As we are getting older, this is important to us. A cruise is just the type of vacation we have learned meets our every need. From the entertainment to the fantastic food they were just what we were looking for. "Don't worry, be happy" as they say. It is all wrapped up in one ship on the open sea. We even slept good and that doesn't happen too often when your away from home. If you haven't cruised before, after this one you'll come back for more. We took our first cruise aboard the Oasis of the Seas, June 2011. We started with one of your best ships. We thought we might feel a little let down after such a BIG ship but that was not the case. We have found something special with each of our cruise ship experiences. This cruise was our fourth and counting and again it was great! We are now dedicated to the open seas. It's the best of everything you could wish for all wrapped up in one!!! Try it, you'll love it!!!

Bermuda by Madadich

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

I would have to say that the ship is the cleanes one we have been on. That all of the workers one the ship are one of the nice I have meet. For things to do they need a little help not much to do. Also the food in the dining room was ok to start but got better as the trip went on. But the breakfasts in dining room not good at all lunch was ok. The windjammer food was much better. If you have the time go to the special restaurant go they are out of this would. Over all would have to say had a good time.

enjoyable by wicklund

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)

Very rocky beginning due to being seasick for the first day. Food was generally very good and available at the many venues around the ship. Service was friendly and personnel were approachable. My son's cabin steward was great; ours was shy and not out and about very much.

Terry's Grandeur of the Seas Review by all4cruisin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Bermuda

I selected this rating due to the fact that the ride to Bermuda was extremely rocky. I realize that the weather is behind the control of Royal Caribbean and , but I almost got very sick. The overall service on the cruise was good, but there was a mixup with breakfast delivery on more than one occasion.

Good but can be improved by groucho

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean

The Grandeur of the Seas has a BIG screen that they do NOT know how to utilize. What they should do is ANY time they have a presentation or demonstration , it should be telecast on the big screen so many more can see what is going on. Excursions are discounted if you book them late, after you are on the ship?! This is backwards to me.. You should get a discount if you book in advance! Overall the cruise was good

4th Great Voyage on The Granduer by MeandTony

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean

It was wonderful to visit some islands we hadn't been to and the weather was great. The staff, waiters, casino dealers and more were just the best ever. Nothing was too much trouble, and all made you feel like it was their pleasure to serve you. The ship was imaculate as usual, although the new bathrooms were very awkward to use. Some of the new details in our room (3018) were a little odd, like the phone was in the way of opening the vanity door, the shower was almost impossible to keep from going all over the floor and the sink was very awkward to use. The new TV system needs some improvement, and three of the hot tubs were not working. All in all though, the staff, food and the shows made the time on the ship most enjoyable. This was our 9th voyage with Royal Caribbean and it certainly will not be the last.

From PR USA to Washington,DC by Lydia

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean

Our experience in general was a great one. It was our first time in the Grandeur of the Seas through a spectacular special route, from San Juan,PR to Baltimore, but we had the opportunity to stay three additional days in Washington, DC. All our experience with Royal Caribbean and have been excellent, except this time when we were assigned a very small and unconfortable stateroom for three adults, two of them senior citizens. We had already paid additional money for a larger room. Customer Service did not solve our problem. Therefore, we expect that our next cruise wil be more satisfying.

IT HAPPENED by jerrygreer

Bus transportation from Panama City to Colon as was promised and paid for. My cell phone was stolen once my baggage was entrusted to Royal Caribbean at the port of Colon. My baggage was lost by American A/Lon my return from Miami to Atlanta, though it was delivered to my home when located. The actual cruise was great.

Cruise from Panama by CSC

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

This is my fourth cruise in the last 10 years. I am impressed with the checking and check out process. It was quick and methodical. The staff were courteous and helpful. Since most of the passengers speak spanish, the ads and announcements were more in spanish. We could meet only limited English speaking passengers. We enjoyed our time in this cruise.
