Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Even though our itinerary got changed and we didn't get the vacation we booked. The crew of the ship were very pleasant, there was a lot of great shows and activities on the ship. We were disappointed and feel that as a company Royal Caribbean should have done more for changing our ports out of the four islands we planned we only got to go to one that was original, and I'm sure we went there because they own it. Determined to not let this ruine our vacation we still had a great time.

Not worth the money paid by erin572

Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We booked the Western Caribbean Cruise out of Baltimore, MD on the Grandeur of the Seas for January 24th, 2016. My reservation was for a junior suite for 2 people booked using the Delta Skymiles cruise website. When we arrived at the dock to sail a day later than the scheduled day of departure, I was informed that not only would our cruise be shortened by one day, but also that we would not be visiting any of the Western Caribbean ports planned for the original trip. Needless to say, we were more than just a little disappointed, having already visited all of the Eastern ports a year ago.

We went on the trip anyway, and luckily the staff aboard the ship were fantastic, which lessened the sting of the extreme itinerary changes. After returning from the cruise, however, I have realized that I do not feel like we got the value for our money that I expected. We were not really compensated for the changes other than what would be legally required (1 day soda package, port fees and taxes, etc.). The cost of my junior suite was more than $4,000, and I think that the cruise line should have done more to ensure that we were still getting a vacation of the same value as originally planned. Thinking back on the repetitious port shopping from this year and last, the situation reminds me of paying for a diamond but getting a cubic zirconia. I understand that weather played a large role in the issues with the cruise itinerary, but weather trouble should not be an excuse for providing your customers with a lesser product than what they paid for.

10 Night Western Caribbean - Grandeur of the Seas by capitalkid

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

You have to give RCL a bit of a break here since snow storm that weekend. The cruise departure was a day late & we were bombarded with notices via various mediums 2 days prior., Hwr, we had no idea that the itinerary had been changed until we checked in at the port. The check in process was horrendous, but far the worst we've experienced at this port. Again, I believe they were short staffed by the storm. We would have had second thoughts since the new itinerary was identical to what we did the year before on the Grandeur. Once on board, we were told that $150 would be credited to our on board account to compensate us for the shortened trip(9 days verses the original 10), not what it should have been. They later credited an additional $96, which was more in line. Once we left Baltimore the ship was it's usual self. Great entertainment, great food outstanding staff, all in all very enjoyable cruise. We booked next year while on board for the 12 day southern swing. Let's hope it does';t snow & we end up going to San Juan & St. Thomas for the 3rd year in a row.

worst cruise ever by coffeegal85

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Have cruised with other lines before, 1st time on RC. We will never return.  Poor food quality, service and activities.  Ship small and old and is supposed to be discontinued in 2 years.  small rooms, they decreased by one day and changed itinerary due to weather.  95 percent of passengers 85 or older. I have allergy to wheat and was unable to eat anything but salads due to no changes to menus, like other cruise lines. I actually lost 6 lbs. on a cruise., Entertainment mediocre. If you are not ancient, a gambler or drink a lot don't go on this boat.

Cruise by knor5ks

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Disappointing cruise. Changed our intenerary to Eastern which we traveled there on last cruise. Service and food selection in main dinning room was below average. And service was not exceptional as we use to get. Actually believe pre paid gratuities and added to your account don't give any incentive to give good service.  And we are Diamond members and hav traveled on Royal many times and have seen lots of changes. Royal putting all there interested in newer and bigger ships were they probably make more money.

Winter storm Jonas by jfish144

Great food and service over came the outrage of losing the itinerary we had planned on for over 2 years.  Royal Caribbean is a safe bet for a solid vacation.

January 2016 cruise on the Grandeur of the Seas by scongos1948

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Due to a snow storm the ship got to the port of Baltimore one day late.

The trip was shortened by one day and the itinerary was changed. Instead of traveling to Conzumel Mexico, Georgetown, Falmouth Jamaica and Labadee  the only port that remained the same was Labadee. We ended up traveling to places that have been visited several times in the past. This information was conveyed to us upon our  arrival after spending three days in a hotel in Baltimore.

We were not happy that our room # 3514 had a window that was made up of two port holes. This information needs to be conveyed in advance.

The ship is beautiful! The service provided was super! The staff was amazing!

Both entertainment and food were just wonderful!!!

Big Disappointment by wwergin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

First let me say that this was to be our 3rd cruise on Grandeur of the Seas.  We love this little ship and it's friendly staff.  Sadly, one day before we were set to leave my husband went into Congestive Heart Failure.  We never went!  Later in the week, when my husband was better, I called the Travel agency.  The representative was lovely.  I explained that I did not expect any refund but wondered if I could get the Crown & Anchor points.  She called RC and was told NO.  You only get the points if you actually cruise.  I think this is harsh.  It costs RC very little to award these points.  They only get you a free drink or boarding priority.  It cost me $1500.  Not a good way to build Loyality.

There is nothing Grand about Grandeur of the Seas! by dwhite57

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

First things first - The ship is old and is showing it's age - the ship is small and feels like it looks. Secondly the age of the majority of passengers looked to be 65+ and the entertainment is geared mostly towards that demographic.I would not recommend this ship to anyone who is under 65 years old, traveling with children or who is not Caucasian. There were very few minority passengers of any kind aboard. If you are looking for diversity while cruising, then this ship in January is not for you.

Staterooms: My roll call did a cabin crawl and this was a lot of fun! We  saw different categories of staterooms throughout the ship. The inside staterooms are extremely small. I would not recommend them although I only use my room to sleep and change. The insides are too small to do those two things comfortably. The large interior cabins are a better but I had a room under the Casino and although there was no noise the air quality a terrible. I awoke every night coughing which means the air filters were not keeping out the smoke. The shower constantly flooded the bathroom floor and there was black mold in the corner on the the carpet outside of the bathroom! There was ample closet and storage space. The Large ocean view stateroom I toured was  nice  and roomy. I will get an ocean view room for my next cruise. The Junior suites with balcony are really nice - they have a living room, steam shower and tub - I will save towards that category for a future cruise. The Royal Suite of which there is only one on the ship is a traveler's dream! It has a living and dining room with a bar and a grand piano, a full bedroom with his and hers closets, and a luxury bathroom with a large tub and steam shower. I won't be staying in one of these unless I hit the lottery.

Dining:The food in all of the venues was of poor quality until we reached Port Canaveral and restocked. The Dining Room food improved greatly after this but the Windjammer was just garbage. I've sailed on a ship smaller than Grandeur but the buffet was not as small and the menu was more varied. I ate only hamburgers there for several days. I don't usually eat beef but this was the only thing edible along with  green salads (it's hard to mess up lettuce). The servers in the dining room and windjammer made up for the inferior food quality. The service was impeccable! Getting to know my dining room team is always a highlight of my cruise. The alcoholic drinks were extremely weak (I rarely drink and they were weak to me so you know how weak they were!) The iced tea, lemonade, orange juice and apple juice were all watered down.

Entertainment was mediocre at best - as i said - not a lot of diversity and entertainment geared towards those 65+.

Itinerary: Port Canaveral is dead unless you go on a pricey excursion. I went to Kennedy Space Center. The tour is $84.00 which includes transportation to and from the center, the price of admission and a private tour guide. Those tours to Disney and Universal are not worth it in my own opinion due to the few hours you get to spend there. Nassau is unsafe after dark and the ship stays there until 9:30pm. You don't dock until 1:30pm and if you take a tour you miss the shops as they close at 5:30pm. I enjoyed Coco Cay except that I was unable to do my excursion of jet skiing as I purchased a ticket as a passenger only. The advertisement for the excursion made it look as if they had guides to take you as a passenger - but you had to have your own driver with you. They did refund my money. Lines were long and confusing for the Island BBQ and again the watered down beverages. Key West was wonderful! I did the hop on hop off tour (purchased on Groupon) and enjoyed learning about the history of the Island. The ship leaves at 4:30 pm which is not enough time to enjoy the island. I hope to go there in the future to stay a week. I enjoyed all of the tours despite the time restrictions.

I will go on another cruise with Royal Caribbean but never again on Grandeur of the Seas.

Cruise to Florida/Bahamas Extended by Jonas by clacijan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

What was intended as an eight-day cruise was extended for an extra day at no-cost due to winter storm Jonas. RCCL treated its passengers to an extra day of cruising at no cost. For passengers with drink packages, these packages were extended at no cost. They also gave each passenger 30 minutes of free internet time and free phone calls. These courtesies were well appreciated. As for the cruise itself, the food was average although service was generally excellent and the ship's staff always tried to make the customers happy. Entertainment was good to very good.

Grandeur trip Jan 2016 by aniokly

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Wow! For a first time cruiser, this trip was amazing! The staff were extremely friendly with smiles on their faces every time we encountered them. Accommodations were good, we had a large stateroom with a window. Shower was small, but did not bother us. Excursions were unbelievable!!! Loved each one and it was easy on and off the ship. We ate in the Windjammer excursion nights and had 3 nights in My Time dining and one night in Chops. Wanna give a shout out to Andy, our stateroom attendent, who put a smile on our faces every time we saw him, and got to love the towel animals! He was great! Another shout out to Kiki, our My Time server. Very friendly and funny! One more shout out to Milroy, our Chops server. He was wonderful!! We definitely cruise again! Had a blast!

Winter Cruise 2016 by maxandjudy

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The cruise overall was very nice as expected.

Embarkation was not as smooth because we did not have our room assignment,(a "Q" room). We called several times to RCCL in the couple of weeks prior to departure.  Ended up we had to leave our luggage outside the baggage collection area and go in to get the Sea Pass card and room assignment..  Then had to go back outside to tell the luggage handlers what room to put on the tag.  Then come back in and go through security again to get to the terminal.  Suggest that an e-mail, text or cell phone call be made so  the room number would be known prior to arriving at the terminal.

good and not so good by marylandgirlnow

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group

food-delicious; servers great; tours were very poor in St Thomas and St Martin - when  we talked to guest services they took information but didn't seem to "get" it; cruise director very good; activity director full of life and fun; furnishings on ship are worn and need to be replaced - cracked floor tile, scared furniture, worn areas.

convenient, pleasant trip for the cost by marynovean

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This is the fourth time my travel partners and I have taken this same cruise!  We enjoy heading to the Caribbean and don't have a burning desire to diversify our travels.  Our experience with Grandeur has been excellent, with the quality of shows, musical entertainment, and customer service rising with each trip, although we never had a complaint.  The shore excursions can be disappointing, especially for a general "island tour",  but that is not unique to this line. Baltimore is a wonderful port with easy access ad a very smooth embarkation process.  I especially enjoy travel with Royal Caribbean and have already booked another Baltimore departure for Nov., 2016.

Grandeur of the seas by johnrusnak

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Ship warm and friendly atmosphere. The Windjammer Cafe' for breakfast and buffet lunch were great. Park Café' for a late night snack was good. Both the Chops Grille and Giovanni's Italian restaurant were a big disappointment. Service in both places lacked good service and the meals were not anything special. We felt like we had better supper meals in the main dining room.

Port of call were great. would do this cruise again .
