Mechanical Issues by marki113

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship had mechanical issue that reduced the it's top speed.  These problems caused us to have shorten port of calls and this contributed to our Cozumel poet of call to be canceled.  Overall we were satisfied with the cruise but would not rate it as one of our best.

Defective Ship. Excursions cancelled. Shower backed up. Luke warm water. Food less than average.indifference by guest services. State room smelled. Not the perfect Christmas gift for my family. Missed one port because of medical emergency which if we had full power won't have happened. WILL NEVER USE ECO AGAIN

Wish it never ended by not2sweet87

I will say the only negative thing we experienced was not being able to go to Mexico; we understand when a child is sick rules need to be followed- but it's still upsetting that we had to turn around instead of them getting a helicopter. I will say this was the best cruise we've been on (we've been on 2 others before this one). The shows were great and the food was amazing (let's say my husband and I both gained weight). They had tons of excursions to choose from and the ship itself had a lot to do too!

Itinerary change by rgshooters

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We booked a cruise to the islands of St Thomas and St Marteen, the night before we sailed we were texted that our ship's itinerary  had been changed completely to Nassau and Cozumel. We had visited these ports on previous cruises and did not wish to return to these ports again.

The service was excellent and we enjoyed most of the entertainment but not up to par with other cruises we have taken with RCCL.

Good food, good entertainment. Still disappointed. by mastrap

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The itinerary changed the day before sailing. I didn't want to go with the new itinerary. When I called the cruise line to book a different cruise, I was told that if I canceled this one, I would lose 100% of my cost.

We had been to 2 of the 3 new places already and had no intention of returning. The third place was their private island.

We went on the cruise and were given an onboard credit of @ 21% of our cost.

We stayed on board for the entire cruise.

Even though the food and entertainment were good, we were extremely disappointed.

change in plan by pkarr3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The ship had to change the plan (ports of call) with that said it was still great!!Love  The ship did everything that they could to make it a fun time. The shows also great! the only thing was because of the change in the ports the front desk needed more help so that people could find out up is happening.

Eastern caribbean turned into western caribbean cruise!! by cruiselifers

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Freedom of the seas is a beautiful ship. I probably would have rated the cruise four or five stars, but less than 24 hours before the cruise was to depart we were informed of the following: Due to technical (actually mechanical problems) the itinerary would change from ST. Thomas, ST. Martin and coco cay to  2 days in Nassau Bahamas,Cozumel and Coco Cay. This was extremely disappointing having booked the cruise 8 months earlier for the eastern Caribbean. Also our cruise last year was in the western Caribbean which included Cozumel. The room, entertainment and service were all very good. The food in the main dining room was also good. The windjammer buffet was below average and very repetitious in its offerings. Once again the ship was great but just upset about the sudden change of itinerary.

Enjoyed Cruise even with revised port visits by harcfh

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Due to technical problems RCCL had to change from St Thomas and St martins to Nassau and Cozumel. Disappointed, but they handled the change well and were reasonable with compensation. Freedom is still an excellent ship. Maintained well, clean, and comfortable. Balcony cabin was very comfortable-no issues, steward was above average. Entertainment was also above average altho changed due to port changes. Food was probably about average by todays standards with a few exceptions. Chops Grill was excellent, as good a meal as you would get at an upscale steak house anywhere. The lobster was prepared as well as I have ever had on a cruise ship. Waiters and staff were above average. RCCL has obviously cut back on servings of dressings, sauces and condiments. No Au Jus for prime rib, Skimpy Hollandaise on Eggs Benedict. a tablespoon short on Caesar Salad etc. Not as easy to serve  4000 folks and keeps prices competitive a dash at a time. Crew and staff went out of their way to mingle and be friendly. Longer than average wait boarding due to ship arriving 2 hours late. Disembarkation was a little slow (too much waiting in line- poor people flow). Seems like cruise lines could get this right as much as they do it. Parked at Radison Port Park and had no issues. All in all an excellent cruise under the circumstances. Will book again when price is right and regular schedule is resumed. Cruises Only was excellent and will use again.

Nov.30th freedom Not the Eastern Ports that we booked. by suefritz24

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We did not get to go to the ports that we booked. Boarding took over 2 hours. Food was the same everyday in the Windjammer. Entertainment was switched around. Took three hours to eat at Portofino's was not worth the time or extra $$$. Could not book another cruise while onboard to get the extra credit for the next cruise. they were booked to the fullest and every time we went there too many people waiting in line. Johnny rockets was also bad. food quality all around was poor. Room steward Freddy was great. Our friends room steward was his first day on the ship was awful for them. Seemed like none of the crew members were happy. Lots of unhappy people on the ship. I know it cost us much more money and time to fly to Orlando to go to these ports so we were unhappy.

Great Staff, Poor Eats by lucystevensfl

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The staff was incredible and exceeded my expectations, incredibly friendly. The beds were more comfortable than other cruises I have been on. There was plenty of entertainment and variety on the ship. All areas of the ship were also kept clean. Only dissatisfaction issues were policies on changing excursions and/or drink packages. If you purchase ahead of time, they couldn't be refunded on ship. The quality of food both in the Windjammer and in the dining rooms was poor.

Dissapointing holiday cruise by malgerio

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

SadOverall a very disappointing experience. So much so that I will look into other cruise lines and probably not book another Royal Caribbean cruise. Ports missed and cut short with nothing done to make up for it, high pressure sales traps and tactics used the entire cruise, and a lot of rude staff members that were not handled by guest services. Very different from my other experiences with this cruise line. It used to be the only line I would cruise on and I am very sad it has changed so much.

Cruise was great and ship good, but could use an update in the public areas by thomasmoran

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The Freedom of the Seas is a fine ship, however, the promenade design concept had good points and bad for me.  The good were that the design allowed for fun times with the 70s night dance show and the parade.  also gave the ambiance of an outside street shopping and dining area.  the bad was that it was somewhat dated looking and was too crowded.  The cruise was excellent.  shows were broadway quality, the staff was very, very courteous and accommodating.  the wait staff in the dining room actually memorized our names and called us by name always.  Juan Carlos, and Kenesha get 5 stars.  Ron our room attendant was excellent.  I rate the TV channels in the room as 1 star, wanted some local USA news, and business channel.  no such luck.  Other cruise ships, Disney and Celebrity did a better job at this.  The Promenade shops need a much needed upgrade, especially the jewelry shops.  Did not seem to have a good look and feel to them. The Portifino restaurant was beyond our expectation.  Wait staff, ambiance and food were 5 stars!!  Ice show was beyond belief.  that is a large space for limited use on the ship, but worth it.  Our room could have had a little more storage drawers and cabinets with doors for storage.

SERVICE by coronaoswalt

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

Service in the dining halls was extremely slow.  Lay out of the boat was not user friendly with food only available on promenade deck and in windjammer which was not convenient for pool use.

A Thanksgiving to Remember by jdmye

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was my 3rd cruise on this ship. The crew and staff are outstanding, friendly and went out of their way to accommodate each time. Yes there were a few issues that could not be resolved, the weather (very windy but no rain) the fact we missed a port and got back to Port Canaveral late because of the weather. But those are things that are out of everyone's control. A cruise should not be judged by those problems. We had many memorable moments and the reason was the crew on this ship. The dining room waiter doing magic tricks for our kids, the officers greeting you and taking the time to stop and talk to you were among the few. The beautiful Christmas tree that was put up on the promenade deck and then illuminated on  Thanksgiving evening by the captain. The food in the dining room was very good, though I am going to be sorry to see Portofino's be replaced. Those are the little things that make a good cruise. I was also pleased that the Crown and Anchor members were recognized on this trip with a few events and more that just a pin.

Awesome main dining service and food. Friendly staff and Captain. Need more movies played at the Big screen around the pool instead of the same videos over and over. Need more night Buffets.

The ship may have lots of things (i.e. Spa,, golf, water slide and ect.) but what is missing  the most is accommodate people with more food choices and port of call.

Enjoyed Cruise on Freedom of The Seas by angiehatcher

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)

Staff was very friendly and helpful.  The ship provided various activities, that was great.  The ship was great in itself.  The ports we visited were interesting and had great photo opportunities.
