Review summary

The wonderful staff and guests that we met on this cruise made it fantastic.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Royal Caribbean explorer of the sea does not have many dining options without paying extra. The buffet was forgettable. The one shining star was Giovanni's which of course we had to pay extra for.

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

1 out of 5
We did not go to all of the shows, or listen to all of the musicians and DJs. However, the few shows we did go to in the theatre were embarrassing. Amateurish and dated with music so old I did not recognize any of the tunes.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room steward janelly was amazing. Probably the best we've had on any cruise ever. Dining room staff and concierge lounge staff are top notch.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Explorer of the sea is easy to navigate. Even though the decor is dated, it is well maintained and clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This was our first time in an owner's suite, and it was wonderful having all that room! I didn't stub my toe, shimmy around the bed or wake my husband up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. Lots of storage. Don't forget to check all those cabinets when it's time to pack up!

Ship tip

There is no Sorrento's pizza, but don't fret. Promenade Cafe has pizza better than on most ships! Definitely see an ice skating show. Even if you're a senior kid, go down the water slide and play a round of golf.

Ports of call

Naples, Italy

5 out of 5
This particular cruise started in Naples and we chose to spend a few nights there before embarkation. Several tips. Plan ahead, research, buy your tickets for gondola and tours ahead of time. I suggest you learn a little Italian to be courteous. Almost all Italians. Speak at least a little English and are very accommodating. While we were there, every evening the city flooded. We're not talking wet sidewalks, we're talking water to my mid calf! Some streets were closed due to this and the pending marathon the next day.

Bari, Italy

5 out of 5
Several days before sailing, we got an email stating we would not be going to Barri. It was substituted for another Croatia port due to the Barri port being too shallow. This was very disappointing and should have been on the original itinerary.
