Holland America actually provided a free shuttle into Rostock and a free boat shuttle over to Warnemunde. A shore excursion was not needed. However, this wasn't known until after the deadline to cancel booked shore excursions had passed.

The cabanas are so popular, you really need to reserve one for the entire week right after you book your cruise. The Retreat area is slightly more expensive but it is much more private and quiet.

Consider open seating for dinner...we had no problem being seated for dinner in a timely manner when we used open seating.

The Eurodam music and dance entertainment had talented performers but the show seemed hodge podged without a theme. The band that performed, "B.B. King Band" from Memphis was very good but was on a very strict schedule.

Don't overpack. Use the laundry service. While the laundry bags are small, I was able to get two pair of jeans, underwear for several days, and several shirts in the bag. They offered special by the bag pricing. I paid $20 for what amounted to about 4 or 5 days of outfits. Very reasonable.

Pack extra clothes of all kinds and more than seven days of medications for the trip in your carry-on luggage. Do not be "put off" by guest services personnel--be polite but persistent. Carry Xanax.
