Tried Hal first time to check it out will return for longer cruise. Having a mass every day is most important. Mostly very nice polite people.

Good cruise ..in spite of by iathoma8

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Eurodam / Destination: Hawaii

Good cruise. Due to Azipod issue, we were late leaving Kona, skipped Ensenada, and missed Victoria due to spending another day in San Diego . But Captain and crew made it a nice trip.

Stellar Epic Journey by AuraRose

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Eurodam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

One VERY AMAZING AND IMPORTANT THING: THE ROOMS WERE SO QUIET - NEVER HAVE I EVER EXPERIENCED SUCH A PLEASANTLY QUIET NIGHT. What did you do to the walls, floor & ceiling that makes it so sound proof? what's the secret? I am a light sleeper and am most appreciative 5-star Stellar Service; Epic Journey; we'll be back! Even though it's great in the Spa, or deck-gazing, Don't just sit on the ship, Get out there. You'll be glad you did. I don't get these negative reviews I see - they're right next to the 5-star reviews. I read them before going and they confused & scared me - I didn't know what to expect. And don't blame anyone but yourself if you don't have a good time. Ask for what you want. the staff is eager to please. Get some binoculars & waterproof warm clothes and get out there. It's amazing!

good time but room for improvement by rdcmrc

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Eurodam / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

top marks for cleanliness of the ship and friendliness of the crew. Top marks for digital workshop and Lincoln center stage. Good mark for comedian. Needs improvement: stage entertainment was poor. Lunch on the last day only had one option and it was chaos in the Lido dining area. Ports of call: skip Palermo - dirty, smelly and unsavory characters meeting the passengers at the end of the pier.

Not up to our expectations by kevandstef

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

Very disappointed with Holland America regarding this cruise. Have been on 2 other HAL cruises, different ship, and we were treated 100% better than on this ship. Husband is discouraged from cruising with HAL in the future.

Neptune Suite makes all the difference in the world!! by CondoKing

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Eurodam / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We sprung for a Neptune Suite not knowing just how great the perks were.  They started by special boarding privileges, then all the Champagne we wanted in the Neptune Lounge embarkation day and finally a super large Suite with king size bed. Plus a super large balcony with 2 lounges chairs w/ottomans and a table with 4 chairs.

The Neptune Lounge, only open  to those of us that had a Neptune Suite, was great. We had breakfast there each morning and a snack every afternoon. The two person staff there took care of everything we could ask for. It was my birthday on this cruise and they decorated our cabin with balloons and happy birthday signs. Printed out our bill anytime we wanted too.  In fact, we hardly ever had to go to the reception desk for anything.

They made reservations for us in the specialty restaurants and even took back our books to the library.  The lounge was never crowed and very comfy.

Now we are spoiled and will always remember the "Royal Treatment" the Neptune Suite provided.

Very nice cruise! by dscaron

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Eurodam / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We chose this particular cruise because of the itinerary and because of the spa facilities. This was our tenth cruise, the first on Holland America. The original itinerary included a port day in Turks/Caicos, where we had never been before and where the snorkeling/diving is supposed to be exceptional. Upon arrival to the cruise port, we learned that embarkation was to be delayed because the previous cruise had been a "sick" cruise and the ship needed to be sanitized. Once we were on the ship, we learned that the Turks/Caicos port had been cancelled. Several cruise lines believe that port was responsible for the Norovirus infection and didn't want to contaminate the ship or its passengers. As we explored the ship, we learned that the facilities in the spa that were most appealing to us, (the thallosotherapy pool), and led us to purchase the spa package for the week, were not able to be used. The pool was drained and would not be up and running until the third day of the cruise. The spa had already credited $50. to our account, however we later requested a full refund, which was granted, because we would have used the facilities on sea days and those were the days that it was not running. Having said all that, the embarkation and debarkation process was the easiest ever! Our luggage was in our room already by the time we arrived and we loved that we were allowed to stay in our room until it was time for us to get off the ship. Never did we feel like cattle being herded, as we have with other cruise lines. The ship was small by today's standards, but quite a nice size, really. You could get from one end to the other easily and our room was mid-ship so everything was very accessible. We had originally purchased a SZ category guarantee and were upgraded to an SS category, which is a verandah suite. The room was LARGE and had a jetted tub AND shower as well as double sinks. VERY NICE! The balcony was big enough for two easy chairs and a table and two chairs, providing nice options for relaxing. With the exception of our dining room wine steward, who was loud, pushy and unpolished, (in our faces, pushing wine when our waiter was trying to serve our meal and begging for a tip at the end), the staff was incredible! They were always smiling, pleasant and helpful and obviously prioritized attention to detail. Loved our waiter, Putu, and our Cabin Stewards (sadly I can't remember their names right now), who came and went with quiet charm and who always knew us when they saw us coming. Everyone was exceptionally responsive, making the experience one of the best we have had and allowing us to forget that the two reasons we first booked this cruise, no longer existed. The food was consistently good, wherever you ate. The Lido buffet food was equal in quality to the dining room and the lines were minimal. The staff was always welcoming and friendly. The ship was always clean and maintenance was always working on keeping it that way. HAL takes safety very seriously, which was a nice change from others we have been on. They did roll call at the safety drill and those who were unaccounted for were called to the front desk and presumably escorted off the ship, which all were given fair warning about in the event they failed to participate. The cruisers were generally older, however, we were seated at the best table in the dining room. Our table mates were close to our ages and we often were the last ones leaving because we were so engaged in conversation. We made some friends that we will remain in contact with. What we loved: The walking deck - it went all around the ship and didn't allow jogging. It was supplied with deck shares in the shade for relaxing and reading after exercise! The cabin - the size, the cleanliness, the storage space, the bathroom! The Service! - attention to detail that we haven't seen since Celebrity. The movie theater - although we were never able to get there when there was space! They play first run movies, a new one each day 4 x a day. The food! - it was consistently good. The Lido buffet was the best we have had in terms of quality! The hamburgers were great! Ports of call that were kept were Peurto Rico, St. Thomas and the private island, Half Moon Cay. Peurto Rico, we have been to several times, but never to the forts, so we walked to el Morro and then through Old San Juan. We had lunch at a local diner that had been recommended to us by fellow passengers, Diana and Tony, who had been there before, and we were not disappointed. The diner was Manolin, just a few blocks up from the port. Excellent local cuisine. We did the St. John's tour "on your own" from the ship in St. Thomas. It was a 45 minute ferry ride to and from the ship to St. John, but it was gorgeous! I would have liked more time on the island. We had just enough time to hike a mile to a fabulous private beach, stay there for a little over an hour and hike back to catch the ferry. Not much time for anything else... The time we had was most excellent, however. The beach was simply incredible. Half Moon Cay was the private island of HAL. It is a good sized island with a LOT to do, including, hiking, biking, horseback riding, parasailing...and the list goes on. We opted to rent a shell on the beach as a landing spot and walked the beach for a good share of the day.The staff on the island were not as friendly as on the ship. We loved that this was our last day as opposed to a sea day. We were able to relax and enjoy it rather than thinking about it being the last day. Overall, in spite of the cancelled port and spa not being available, this was one of the best of our 10. It reminded me of the subtle, yet important differences that exist between cruise lines and what is important to us when we are looking for our next one. Thank you, Holland America for reminding us what we want when we spend our hard-earned money on a much needed vacation!

Great Ship! by mglynch9426

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

Great ports, but the over priced excursions are not worth the price! Do your research on the island and hire a taxi cab, so easy, and 1/4 of the price.

Relaxing cruise with a couple of Lido hiccups by ianmayall

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Eurodam

Panama Canal cruise was a great experience.  The destinations were new (to us) and interesting.  The ship had a mild refresh under a dry dock in early 2023. The service provided by the staff was excellent.  Special mentions to Ali and Ridho in the Canaletto restaurant, Allen at the Lido Pool and James, Win and John Paul at the Lido Bar and finally Banyan at table 118 in the MDR. Canaletto restaurant was excellent and for the value of the $ uplift, was the best dining experience that I have had on a cruise.   Food in the MDR was generally good.  Evening entertainment was generally limited but it was to be expected given the nature of the cruise.   Two very disappointing experiences on the Lido deck. 1)      I noticed some strands in the Lido pool on the Thurs and assumed they were stems from leaves.  Upon closer review I saw that they were fibers from the pool net covers (that I never actually saw over the pool during the cruise) - see pics.  There were hundreds of these fibers which ranged from a few mm to maybe 3 inches which, due to their weight, rested slightly under the surface of the water and the smaller pieces were a risk of ingestion.  I had my 7yr old daughter in the pool and was a little concerned. I assumed the pool would get filtered over night and all would be good on the Friday.  On the Friday it was still dirty, and from the Friday to the following Monday I asked multiple representatives from maintenance to guest services to help (also raising a ticket on Saturday and escalating on Sunday).  I also had a senior rep visit the pool with me who acknowledged that it needed draining.  They never cleaned the pool once.  Not even a walk around with a pool net for 10 mins to lift out the larger particles.  The pool was really dirty and dangerous.       2)      Sitting on the rear deck on the Sunday, we felt what was like rain drops falling onto us.  However, after maybe 10 minutes they turned orange on both clothing and skin (see pics).  A different group near us raised it to the Lido deck staff and we were visited by one of the senior representatives from the deck.  He explained that it was as a result of them cleaning the funnel with a soap & water solution (which I assume was lifting rust particles out of the funnel) and the steam was turning to water droplets and landing on sub bathers.  He advised that it washes off skin ok but unfortunately it doesn’t come out of clothes.  He took everybody’s state room number (maybe 10 rooms) and advised that we would be contacted by guest services and compensated.  Upon return to our rooms later that day we had complimentary cleaning papers at our state room.  The Gentleman was correct, cleaning didn’t work and so we had to visit guest services for a credit.  Unfortunately, this happened to us on 2 days in a row.  While my t-shirts and shorts were not too expensive and I was given credit the same day, other members of the group (1004 and 1008) are still awaiting compensation.

Perfect for the Panama Canal by garystewart1960

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Eurodam

The Panama Canal is a engineering wonder and worth seeing once. Curaçao is a wonderful port. Colon looks very depressed and we did not feel safe to walk around. Probably will not do this cruise again. But I am glad we did it once. The Eurodam is well maintained and the staff was great. It does not have as many amenities as Holland's newer and bigger ships. I appreciated the smoke free casino and the kindness of the staff.
