Great for families!! by JackieD6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

We are first-time cruisers and picked Disney because Wife doesn't like boats and believes if we were to go on only 1 cruise in our lives, might as well go with Disney. We went on the 3-night Disney Wonder cruise to the Bahamas. Check-in & embarkation was a breeze. The waiting area was very spacious, & seeing Mickey & Minnie there was a plus. When we stepped into the ship, everything was elegant & clean. Everyone we met were helpful & pleasant. We ate most of the time at the Buffet on Deck 9. Food was average, in my opinion, but I was very happy that I didn't have to cook it or do the dishes afterward :0)). My 6-yr old son loved the Mickey pool & Oceaneer's Club; he didn't want to leave the club whenever we'd pick him up! Maybe we're just lucky that since we have only 1 child who is used to daycare, he was able to get along easily with new kids and counselors. Son said he really enjoyed all the activities they had and always asked to go back there. On the last night, they had a "graduation ceremony" for the kids who participated in the clubs & it was awesome! They put together a montage showing the kids participating in different activities, and my husband & I thought that it was well organized and very sweet. Plus, son got a free DSeaU alumni t-shirt and mouse-ears graduation cap - nice souvenirs! We didn't do any of the excursions. Instead, we took a taxi to Atlantis ($4/pp incl. toll each way) and paid $29/adult, $21/child to see The Dig/Aquarium there. The aquarium was small, we thought the price was a rip-off. We just wandered around the pools areas and took photos. Nope, couldn't use the pool facilities unless you were a registered guest. We didn't care for it anyhow & my son was itching to go back to the ship. Total time spent at Atlantis: 1-1 1/2 hours tops. Dropped off Son at Oceaneer's Club & walked around the immediate dock area, didn't go to the straw market. I was 21 wks pregnant (but looked much bigger) & the walking was tiring me quickly. TIP: If you want to mail postcards, there's a post office right there in the Festival bldg which you have to go through to get out of the dock. We discovered this by accident while planning to walk a few blocks to the actual post office. Pirate night was fun, but we were disappointed that Capt. Jack Sparrow didn't appear. Since it was only a 3-night cruise, I don't think it was an all-out Pirate Party in comparison to the 7-night cruises (from what other reviews I've read). We dressed up in pirate costume (just for fun!) and I only saw another parent who was decked up in pirate gear like us. Again, I think most folks go out-and-out on the longer cruises. We were quite disappointed with Animator's Palate; only selected frames changed scenes, & although most of the frames lit up - it was more towards the end of the meal, not while waiting for your food, which would have been more entertaining. Palo's, on the other hand, was exceptional! Which made us wonder why they couldn't serve that kind of food in the regular restaurant, at least for the dinner menu for adults. The shows were funny & spectacular, loved them all! Overall, hubby & I feel that this cruise, although it was short, was an exceptional first-time experience that would make us come back again when 2nd child is old enough. We feel that Disney really caters to families with children and would go with them again while the kids are young. They really handled everything well, and to see my son exceptionally happy with their services makes Mom & Dad very happy too. Plus, Mom & Dad actually got to spend time alone without feeling guilty or worrying that our son was miserable - our pager never went off! Yey, Disney Cruise!

BEST PLACE ON EARTH by MattM9

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I am a kid myself and i have to say disney rocks! (Mostly on their cruises) I live in orlando,FL and don't get the excitment out of Disney World after living near it almost my whole life, but going on DCL was so exciting! Both ships are cool but the best is Magic because its longer! It is true that 3-4 night cruise isn't worth the price, but 7-night is more reasonable if booking ahead of time. Food was awsome, same with pirate party, i was able to stay out late with my friends and go to the movie theatre and have food whenever i wanted from the buffets, snack bars, and pizzerias. I DEFINITLY love this cruise line!

Excellent cruise by LoriS2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean

We were a party of 21 people and everyone had a fantastic time. Our age ranges were from 5yrs to 61 yrs including 5 people in their mid 20's.There was something for everyone! The cabins were larger than any other ship we have been on and having 2 baths/sink/tub split was great. This was our 4th disney cruise and we enjoyed the changes including: the BIG screen on deck, the new shows, coffee bar and lounge changes. This was the first Disney cruise for our friends and they are still talking about what a great time they had. We will go again next year. Thanx to Linda at Vacation Outlet for helping coordinate and accomodate our large group!

The Best Vacation Experience Ever!!!!!! by DallinW

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The ship was very adequately built for having a lot of fun jammed pack into a week long event! The crew could not have been more enthusiastic and so extremely serviceable. My wife and I really appreciated the way they made our children feel so comfortable and accepted. It didn't take long for the servers at our meals to learn our habits and have our favorite drinks already waiting for us when we showed up for dinner. Another fantastic thing that I (as a guy) did not expect to enjoy so much was the on board entertainment. The shows were unbelieveable! And for the first time in my life, I caught the "magic of Disney"! The food was also very enjoyable. From the upper deck ordering, to the excellent meals in the variuos rotating locations - to the 24 hour room service- we loved every moment./bite. Already we are planning a return trip. I consider myself somewhat hard to please sometimes, but this vacation experience was out-of-this-world and above and beyond what I thought was possible. Thank You DIsney Magic for showing me and my family such an awesome experience!!!!!!

The kids will not want to get off by MaricelP

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I took my 4-year old and she had a blast. She cannot stop talking about the characters on the ship. We saw more characters than at Disney World. My husband and I were sooooo bored. There was nothing for us to enjoy and everything closes early but the kids programs are A++, the staff is most helpful, courteous, and it was so clean on the ship. I would recommend that only kids should go. Too bad we couldn't just drop the kids off on the ship and the adults go to another one.

Awsewome & Accomodating! by LenaG

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This cruise FAR EXCEEDED our experience 10 years ago on Celebrity. Everyone was so freindly & accomodating. There were photo opportunities & fun in every bend of the ship. The deck parties were filled with energy & magic. Castaway Cay was the most beautiful island we've ever experienced. Turquiose waters, white sand and fun for EVERYONE, in a safe clean environment. The cruise couldn't have been better.

Family Vacation by RhondaN

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This was our first cruise, never thought we'd enjoy being on a ship with so many other people. However, the rooms on the Disney Wonder were spacious by cruise standards and the ship was enormous! Never felt over crowded (but did forgo the kids pool all but one day). Shows were entertaining, crew were, for the most part, cheerful and helpful. Castaway Cay is a MUST for school age kids! Entertaining (and safe). You have to see Mickey underwater!

A Fun Cruise with a few slight mishaps by KristineE

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

We had a lot of fun on this cruise but I think any cruise is hard with little ones. Kids who are not toilet trained are limited to a very small toddler area which is not enclosed and is located near the stairs.Chasing a toddler 18 mos and keeping up with an older child in the pool was a challenge. The kids programs seemed great but my son age 5 1/2 would not stay so we could not take advantage of that. Maybe if they had waited a little longer to page us he would have been ok. The first night someone else was seated at our table by mistake and had already been partially served, so we had to wait while our wait staff cleared their table and set it again. After that night the food was great and the service was excellent. Our cabin steward was the most polite and sweet natured crew member on the ship, even better than our wait staff!! The characters were slightly inaccessible. My son did not want to wait in long lines to see them, but that was really not a problem for us.

Awesome Cruise by SharonG2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This was my first Disney cruise & I can't wait to go again.I had my first cruise in Nov on a Norweigen ship. There is no comparison between the 2 ships.I am now spoiled & will prob only cruise with Disney from now on. Although the price may be higher than most cruise lines you get your monies worth. The cast members are friendly, always greet you with a smile on there faces. There are so many activities to do, you will never be bored.I liked that the cast members were not pushy to buy bar drinks & they didn't push the bingo like other cruise lines. The ship is beautiful (was redone in dry dock in Oct) everything is clean & new looking.I had an inside cabin & never felt crowded. The shows were top notch Broadway productions & the theatre is huge.

Trip of a Lifetime!!! by JessicaD1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean

We surprised our 4 children and took them on the trip of a lifetime! We didn't tell them where we were going until we all sat down on the airplane!! We had the most magical experience on our Disney Cruise! We have cruised before, but our kids haven't so it was wonderful watching them enjoy it as much as we were. 3 of our 4 children were able to experience the Ocean Club/Lab programs. They loved it so much that there were times that my husband, baby and I were the only ones at dinner - the kids wanted to eat with their new friends. They close down the Beach Blanket just for the kids and they loved the buffet! The shows were fantastic, the staff (crew members) were wonderful, the islands were so wonderful, the food was great! (let your kids wear their Disney Princess or Buzz lightyear costumes to dinner) They even gave my daughter her ketchup in the shape of a Mickey face!! Our kids were also able to walk down the halls meant just for cast members and characters (just like the underground world at Dinsey Parks) It was pretty cool a few days of the trip and Disney really made up for that. There was no time to be upset that your warm experience wasn't happening because of all the activities to do. Pirate night was so exciting with Mickey coming down from the top of the ship out of nowhere! We skipped the character signing and pictures taking expect on our formal night. We could see the princess in the glass elevators and told the kids we would rather watch them in the shows and they seemed okay with that. The lines are long and honestly, they were more intreged with looking at them than getting an autograph. We took pictures and our little ones still love looking at them. Our staterooms were a such a surprise! We had adjoining rooms and it was perfect for our family. We all had space and the two bathrooms in each room was just so fantastic! I would wake up early just to sit in our window and watch us port (try and get a room portside)! It was a peaceful experience. When we ported in Castaway Cay we made all of kids wake up early and we went up on the top deck to see us come in to the gorgeous island. We also loved it when we left all the people on the island waved at us with Big Mickey Hands on...made me get teary! We truly want our kids to see the world and with the cruise we were able too! Thanks Disney for a Magical Family Experience! We already have our next one booked and we will see you soon!

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Wonder / Destination: Caribbean - Western

WOW!!!!!! The best family vacation ever. I love the size of the rooms. We were on level 2 room 2140. We really enjoied the round window facing the ocean. Looking at the ocean thru the window was the best place to relax. For my husband the best place to relax was laing on the chairs and reading a book by the pool. Haily is 9 years old she enjoied all the activities and every place we went. Thank You, for a dream come true The Stillabower Family.
