Delightful Disney! by MargaretE1

Sail date: /
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship is very classic in style with enough hidden Mickey's to keep us amused too! The service, esp. at dinner was impressive...we had no need to send our children off to the club as they were entertained by the waiters the whole meal!

A Fun Cruise by NancyM27

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My two daughters, granddaughter and I just returned from a cruise on Disney Magic. We all enjoyed it. My 5 yr. old granddaughter LOVED the Oceanneer's Club and Lab. She would have gladly stayed there from 9 a.m. to 12 a.m. if we let her. The staff was wonderful. The 3 pools were very nice and usually pretty warm. Of the 4 shows we attended in the theater, 2 were outstanding! The costumes, singing and visual effects were top notch. When the characters visited the children in the dining rooms, they were thrilled. The food was good but not great. We had a balcony room which was so much nicer than the little shoeboxes on the lower decks which I usually book on cruises. The whole staff was wonderful, always smiling and eager to please. The down side, if your child wanted a picture taken with one of the characters, you had to wait in line forever, so we opted not to do that. We thought it would be nice if the characters wandered around the ship periodically so pictures could be taken anytime, also, they could have visited the dining rooms more than once. That might have cut down on the long lines waiting for pictures. We enjoyed the ports, St. Maarten and St. Thomas, also Castaway Cay was very nice. On St. Maarten we hired a taxi driver to take us where we wanted to go. I've been there a few times and knew where we'd want to go in our allotted time. I wouldn't recommend this cruise for people without children, but if you have children, it's super.

Great Cruise! by ToryO

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Took my family on the Magic on the one year anniversary of the passing of my father, who had taken the whole family on a Disney cruise a year earlier. We had travelled on the Disney Wonder in January of 2008 and were made fans for life of the DCL line. Our attraction to the itinerary for this sailing was equal days at sea and in port. We wanted time to experience and be entertained by the amenities of the ship. Our cruise in January of 2008 was a 4 day cruise that featured port days every day of our cruise with no time to enjoy the ships high points. From the Sail Away Party on Day One, to the kids activities, the Pirate Party, and on to our final night, the ship, crew, and entertainers did not dissapoint! The characters were great, for kids and adults. Our cruise featured a Trick or Treating night, where the characters, crew, and cruisers were all dressed up in costume. Very fun. Clayton Lindsey, our cruise director could be seen in every corner of the ship with a big smile and eagerness to get to know everyone. They must have cloned him, I don't know how he ever slept with the schedule and job he was doing! The Kids centers, Oceaneers Club and Lab, were great. I never had any hesitation with leaving my youngest (6 Yrs Old) at the Club, or allowing my oldest (11 yrs Old) to go on his own to his club. They kept them busy and gave my wife and I a break to wind down in the adult only Quiet Cove. The entertainement was great, whether is was a show, movies, game shows, or bingo. We always had a great time and the cruise entertainers were always on spot. The dining teams really shined, within one day they had learned our likes and dislikes and surprised us at every evening meal. The food was very good, and you always have options. The breakfast and lunch buffets were okay, but what can you do with buffet food, you get what you get. DCL offers alternatives to the buffet with a stone oven pizza stand and a burger/hot dog stand that had great brats and burgers and creative artesnal pizzas. Our ports were St. Croix, St. Thomas, and Castaway Cay. We loved St. Croix, it was very quiet and cozy, not busy, much like what the old Caribbean was. We did our own thing on St. Croix, taking a shuttle to Fredricksted and touring the old fort before taking a water taxi over to Protestant Cay for a day at the beach. Great crystal clear blue water for snorkeling. St. Thomas is a busy port with a highlight for shopping. We went to Coral Sea World on an excursion doing a helmet dive, great fun. I took the kids back to the ship afterwards to the clubs so my wife could go do some shopping in town. The merchants have basically set up a shopping center right at the port, or you can go "downtown". Not a big shopper myself, so we stayed in touch via walkie talkies. I really suggest bringing some. Our last port was Castaway Cay. Our only complaint here was with nature and DCL couldn't have done anything about it. The wind was howling on our day at Castaway and all the activities, parasailing, fishing, etc were all cancelled due to the high wind. The snorkeling in the cove was horrible, the wind had worked the bottom up and you couldn't see beyond a couple feet. But the sun was shining, water was warm, and the sand soft, so a standard beach day was just fine by us. DCL has a fan for life in me, I will go back as a regular cruiser even when my kids outgrow the Disney theme. I am fine with paying more for a cruise line that cares about service. And DCL gets a full rating there!

Exceeded our expectations by BarbA

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

So easy to get on the ship and getting off the ship was a breeze. No lines, no headaches, no waiting in corridors. We never expected a ship with so many children on board to run so efficiently. This trip exceeded all our expectations and added new ones.

A great trip but a really bad room by JenR2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was our 4th Disney Cruise. We love everything Disney and always love the Disney ships, but this time our room was really bad. The toilet didn't flush right the whole time and the bathroom flooded twice. It took the whole week to get it fixed. We really thought they should have fixed the problem sooner. The ship is beautiful and generally well maintained although there were plumbing problems in some of the public restrooms as well. The kids programing is exceptional and the service superior to any other cruise line.

Perfect, Perfect, Perfect! by MariaK2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Wonderful impressions overall of the ship. We went on a 7-night Western Carribean, and this was our first family cruise. We took 2 children, ages 6 and 3, and grandma and grandpa. From the registration at Port Canaveral, to the personalized "welcome aboard ___ Family" when we boarded the ship, to the details of our room, the quality of the shows, the genuineness of the crew, the attention to detail at dining, the caring nature of the Oceaneer Kid Club staff, this experience was wonderful!

Disney Cruise - Not for Grown Ups by RhondaR39891120

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Overall I would recommend this experience but feel that it is better suited for those traveling with children. With a few minor changes I think it could be great for adults, like separate dining time/location for adults only. Nothing like having a gourmet meal with screaming kids everywhere. Parents seem to totally check out and not care what their kids are doing, had kids kicking our seats in the theatre and leaning forward screaming in our ears, less than pleasant. I think they should ban the alcohol so the parents aren't in a stupor and realize how rude their kids are.

You'll never forget it! by Steve137146216

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

First off, this was our 3rd Disney Cruise. First one was on the Wonder, next 2 were 7 day cruises on the Magic. We are always totally blown away by the friendly staff. From the first person who greets you when you come aboard, to your server & asst. server in the dining rooms, to your stateroom host, everything is as it should be. Our son, who's first cruise was at 8 years of age, is 13 now. And he had a GREAT time! Do not think for an instance that older kids will not have fun on this cruise. He met a lot of friends that he can keep in touch with. The shows they present are fantastic! From comedians and bands to broadway style shows (Disney stories of course) are all great.

Disney loves adults, too! by AmyM3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My husband, 18 year old daughter and I cruised on the Disney Magic 7 Night Western Caribbean cruise in May of 09. Even though we didn't get to go to Cozumel, Mexico due to the flu issue, it was the most amazing, relaxing vacation I've ever had. You would assume since it is a Disney cruise, it would be all about the little ones...this just is not the case! The crew does an outstanding job of going above and beyond to ensure you have a wonderful time. The spa is amazing and relaxing. They have quite a few treatments to indulge in that vary from the Tropical Rain Room to couples massages. This does cost additional, but is well worth it. There is plenty of entertainment for the adults, too. On our trip there was a ventriliquest who was hillarious, an evening of "One Hit Wonders" to dance to and the staff does a great job of encouraging the crowd. There is bingo to enjoy, a piano bar and many other activities to long to list. Definate variety! The food was very good. Most of it was overcooked a little bit, but seasoned well and the servers are phenomenal! Since I do all the cooking at home, I especailly loved someone cooking for me, putting the napkin on my lap and quite honestly, just fussing over me. Loved it!! The cabin host took great care of us and yes, they really do make the towel oragami and it just adds a little bit of fun every evening. If you don't feel like running around but just want to soak up the sun, it's great to sit by the pools and just relax. All 3 pools have 2 jacuzzi's and often have entertainment on hand. If your feeling to lazy to walk to the bar, no worries, someone will deliver that frosty beverage right to you poolside. There is always plenty to eat and even though it mimics "fast food", I found it to be surprisingly fresh and good. All food areas offer fresh fruit, too. No matter your age or interests, the Disney Magic offers a wonderful time, even for us big kids!

Pleasantly surpised by Barbj1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I was expecting something totally geared towards kids and disney fanatics (of which I am neither) but I was blown away by the thoughtfulness in the ship's design allowing for the kids to be safely and happily occupied while the adults had a little "time off" and in their own space. I am a single mom and was dreading supper until they sat the single parents together and it was PERFECT. All the kids could relate to their situations and had a blast playing together both at the table and at the kid's club. Stroke of genius to seat us all together.

The ship was well-maintained and clean. Amenities were first rate. There were some who indicated that the stabilizers weren't working properly, but otherwise the ship was great.

A magical place at sea! by CindyN

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The ship was amazing! Everything was clean-they even handed out moist wipes prior to entering a dining area. It was great to see the happiness on the kids' faces and it really was the happiest place at sea! Pirate night was fun and the staff was SOOOOO nice! We had a bit of a problem with lice when we got home and since have heard that ships tend to have them...good thing to know! Overall, it was a great experience, but budget in shopping and bingo-that got way out of hand for us!

Why Are Disney Cruises So Expensive??? by D3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean

I have been on three cruises,--once on Carnival, and twice with Costa. Every cruise was a 7-day Caribbean cruise. I have nothing but GREAT things to say about those past cruises!!! My husband and I are thirty-ish, and we have four boys. I can't express enough how wonderful our cruise experiences were aboard both the Carnival and Costa cruise ships. I'd like to try out a Disney cruise, but after reading the reviews, it seems that their pools are not large enough, and the shows are not all that great. Let me just say that the whole Disneyworld-theme-parks-thingy is all OVER-RATED!!!! So, someone, please, please enlighten me, and tell me why oh why are the Disney cruises so outrageously priced??!!?!?! And please do not respond with the private island Castaway Cay answer,--- it's not enough. And besides, both Carnival and Costa had private island getaways for the passengers. Really though, I'm just so wanting to know why the thousand dollar per person cost for the trip? Thank you in advance for any answers to my one simple question!!!!
