Review summary

This was our first cruise on Princess and it may be our last. We scheduled the cruise with the idea of seeing Alaska and we spent most of our time on the ship. The fact the Princess couldn't keep the itinerary that we based our booking on was very disappointing.

Embarkation

1 out of 5
The on-line instructions for where to drop our luggage at the airport for the shuttle had the wrong place. Had to wait over an hour for the shuttle. We did on-line check-in but still had to wait in a long line with people who hadn't used the on-line ap.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The Salty Dog Gastropub was listed on-line and on the on-board map and was being advertised on-board but it didn't exist. One area of the main dining room had a loud grinding noise from the engine room that made it difficult to talk to others.

Cabin / Stateroom

It had plenty of storage room for hanging clothes and stowing luggage. Bed was comfortable. Temperature was comfortable. It was quiet.

Ship tip

Don't sail on this ship until it is engines are 100% functional. They dropped two of our paid exc ursions and one port of call because the ship couldn't travel at full speed. We were told it was due to scheduled maintenance but found out that ours was the fourth trip it had made in this condition and more were scheduled.

We had to set up our own transportation to get to the Mendenhall Glacier after Princess cancelled our paid excursion. Fortunately, it was easy to do at the pier.

Skagway, Alaska

We rode the White Pass railroad excursion and enjoyed all the beautiful scenery and the commentary.

Cruise Glacier Bay

this was a cruise on the ship through Glacier Bay. Beautiful scenery and we spotted a few seals. There was also commentary by a Glacier Park ranger on the PA.

Victoria, British Columbia

Ship was an hour late into port (8pm) with an 11:30pm departure. All excursions had been cancelled and all people who had booked excursions were given passes for the shuttle buses into town. We hadn't booked an excursion and didn't feel the cost of a taxi would be worth the bother. Also it was raining so we stayed on-board.

Disembarkation

What a mess. Getting off the ship was not a problem but finding our luggage was a treasure hunt even with the bags having been color tagged with group numbers. Then there was another ship disembarking and using the bus loading area. There were no signs as to where buses were going and no one directing people and the line was getting longer. If we hadn't used a porter we'd have never made our flight.

They nee about their engine issues before you cruised. They are just stealing money. This is not a good cruise line. Read the reviews

Sounds like it was a big disappointment. Princess really needs to get their act together.
