Review summary

My husband and I recently sailed to Alaska and loved it.  The Celebrity Solstice ship was very clean and had a very open feeling.  Our rooms were nice (we had a veranda) and clean.  Everyone on the ship was very friendly and courteous.  Celebrity did a great job on planning different events around the ship, we never had a dull moment.  The glass blowing show was awesome.  The spa was so serene and relaxing.  I didn't get a chance to get any treatments done but did use the amenities one day and loved it.  Also the food was great.  The only downfall was the food service.  In the main dining room and some of the specialty restaurants, service was slow.  Seems like the wait staff is a little inefficient but eventually our food came out and our glasses were filled and all was good.  You must try Silk Harvest at least once.  The restaurant is smaller than the other speciatly restaurants making it more intimate and they have it down.  Service was fast and great.  We ate there at least half the time.  All the ports were good.  Any Alaska trip always seems to hit Juneau, Skagway and Ketchican.  This particular cruise included Icy Straight Point which was fun and mellow.  Not much to do there but zip line or walk around.  We tried sailing up the Tracy Arm Fjord but there was too much ice in the water we had to turn around.  This happened to me as well back in 2005 where the ship had to turn around because of ice chunks.  It was a different cruise line but the name of the cruise is 'Sawyer Glacier' but we never got to see 'Sawyer Glacier'.  Besides that, we loved this trip.  Leaving from Vancouver was nice because we got to see that area as well.  We flew in a couple days before departing and took in Vancouver.  It is absolutely beautiful there.  Celebrity did a great job.  Having cruised Norwegian and Princess before, Celebrity exceeded my expectations.  The Solstice ship felt clean and upgraded.  Would definitely recommend this ship for any adventure.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

Silk Harvest was amazing and had great service. Main dining room and Tuscan Grill had bad service. Food took way too long to come out and we were always drinking melted ice.

Room was very clean and felt open.

Ship tip

The Mast Grill by the pool has the best burgers and fries. Get there before the lunch rush though because that line gets long. Cafe Bacio is a great late night snack place. The pastries are amazing-try the strawberry chiffon cake-to die for!

Ports of call

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

Loved Vancouver, very clean and friendly.

Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska

Too much ice to get to the Sawyer Glacier. This happened to me on another cruise in 2005. Maybe should focus on a different glacier to see. The fjord was beautiful and wished we could have spent more time going up it.

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska

Not much to do there but was a relaxing port. The tendering seemed to take a bit and maybe avoiding that would be better.
