This was our 11th cruise,... by MichelleH11

Ship: Celebrity Millennium

This was our 11th cruise, but our first withCelebrity Cruises. In the past, we havecruised with Princess and Royal Caribbean and have always had wonderful experiences and hardly ever found anything to complainabout. We were a little skeptical to cruisewith Celebrity after reading some of the negative reviews (and we thought there werea lot), but decided to give it a go and trysomething different, and were anxious to explore the Millennium. Let me tell you, everything from boarding to disembarkation was absolutely wonderful. We got to the port about 11:30 a.m., went right through the fast moving short lines and went directly on board. Although you cannot "check into" your cabin until 1 p.m., we placed our luggage in our cabin and went to explore the ship. Cabin: Was roomy (good size bathroom and shower)Cat. 1B. Our cabin steward was wonderful and our cabin was always clean.Food: Our dining room servers (a team of 2 females) were very polite and professional.Food was delicious. Even at the lunch buffet, the servers wore white gloves and carried the trays for the women. Staff: Were extremely friendly, helpful and always happy, or at least seemed to be. Entertainment: The shows and the bands that played in the lounges and certain areas were quite enjoyable. Be sure to experience the The Olympic Restaurant. There is an additional charge, but well worth it. We would recommend that you reserve your night as soon as possible after boarding, and try to reserve a night at the beginning of the cruise before everyone catches on. We did two evenings in the Olympic and enjoyed the first evening (first formal night) more than the second. Service was much better and slower paced because they were not as busy. The ship itself is absolutely beautiful and very well layed out. The decor and art is very cool. We also had no rocking or vibration whatsoever, and did have some rough seas. We could not figure out how so many people had so many complaints. We thought everything was top notch, and will never hesitate to cruise with Celebrity again, and again, and again.....

My family and I thoroughly... by KarenA7

Ship: Celebrity Millennium

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our trip during Spring break, 2001. It was my husband's first cruise & we are already planning our next one. My only criticism was that there were not enough age-related activities for my 14-year-old son. It seemed there was enough to do for the youngsters and plenty to do for those over 18. I wish there were more pools. Well enough complaints. The service was just unbelievable. The food was spectacular! Nanand was our waiter and had the best personality. The bartender (from Bali) at the Martini bar always had a smile on and oh those martinis! One of the bartenders (he knows who) was simply the best and always seemed to find us. The cruise director and his staff were courteous and helpful. Oh, did I mention that my husband, Andy, was crowned the King of the Millennium! Everything was just spotless. The ship itself was beautiful and the stores were reasonably priced. We enjoyed the art auctions. Embarking and disembarking went so smoothly, orderly - they should give lessons to the airlines. There were never lines for food. Entertainment was good. The Aqua Spa was the best in the world; it was so relaxing. I would definitely recommend Celebrity to anyone who is thinking about taking a vacation. It truly was the best vacation ever!Karen, Andy & Justin

Anyone who rates this less... by BruceC

Ship: Celebrity Millennium

Anyone who rates this less than four stars probably doesn't find ANYTHING that will make him/her happy. The ship is GREAT, the food is GREAT, and the workers are fine. I love that they don't do those annoying announcements too. If you don't enjoy this ship, it's YOU.

Having read all the reviews... by ThomasA7

Ship: Celebrity Millennium

Having read all the reviews regarding the quality of food, entertainment, and service aboard the Millennium, it is difficult for my wife and I to understand how any reasonable individual would not rate the ship at least a 4 star. The ship is beautiful, grand, organized, and easy to understand. The lobby is as beautiful as any 5 star hotel we have stayed at in our travels. The cabin, cat.1A provides a lovely setting to relax and a bathroom that provides the space required to feel comfortable. The food is presented in a fashion that is not usually seen on land, unless you are willing to pay a small fortune to receive the care, quality, and exceptional service provided. The vast majority of the staff were very kind and giving of their time and talent. The Olympic restaurant is a truly outstanding event! Please, if sailing the Millennium take the opportunity to experince th Olympic. There is no way you will receive better service anywhere in the United States or Europe. The room is an absolute work of art.The entertainment is above adverage and can easily allow for an enjoyable experience. Try to find better entertainment out in the middle of the ocean.Smoke was a bit of a problem for my wife and I, but if we really wanted to avoid the smell it was possible most of the time. When we travel, we intend on having a wonderful time and enjoy ourselves. This does mean that you may have to be willing to deal with some less than wonderful events that can make a trip less than great if you have a poor attitude. Relax, enjoy, and make the best out of what you are blessed with in life. Most people, on the plant, will not ever have the opportunity to sail on a grand ship like the Millennium. To those who did not enjoy the ship, I say you did not even try. To those yet to sail, I say have a wonderful time. You have picked one of the most beautiful ships on the seas today. The Alexanders

This was my sixth cruise,... by DeborahR4

Ship: Celebrity Millennium

This was my sixth cruise, the second with Celebrity. After sailing three times with Costa, I found Celebrity to be the upscale choice for U.S. passengers. All the luxury, accomodations and choices, without the hassle of multiple announcements to accomodate multiple languages. The ship is beautiful and well laid out. The staterooms with a balcony are lovely. Despite rough seas in November, the crew was exceptional and the food was wonderful. I would recommend this ship to any seasoned cruiser. We will definitely look to the Millennium when booking our next cruise.

Celebrity advertises itself as "Simply... by JamesP9

Ship: Celebrity Millennium

Celebrity advertises itself as "Simply the Best." From my recent experience, this is simply untrue. In fact, out of four cruises on Princess, Royal Caribbean and Carnival, I would consider the Millennium and the Celebrity cruise line far below the ones I previously mentioned. I had booked this cruise about nine months in advance for my wife's birthday. My wife and I were traveling with our 2-year-old son. When we got to the ship, we were told that someone would take us to our room, that never happened and we had to go to the room ourselves. When we got to the room, there was someone taking a shower in the bathroom and there was a Celebrity coverall outfit hanging on the hook outside the bathroom door. Also, there was an open suitcase on the bed. Unbelievable. We had to go to the Guest Relations desk to let them know that someone was in our room. I told them that I thought it was a Celebrity crewmember due to the coverall outfit and they said that it couldn't be. Then, they called the Chief Housekeeper for that deck and told us to meet him at the room so that he could verify our story. We met him there and sure enough, the person was still in the shower. The housekeeper called guest relations to let them know and then they started looking for another room to put us in. We requested an upgrade due to the inconvenience and they put us in a room with more mirrors, what a joke. Later, we had to go back to guest relations so that they could issue us new room keys/ID cards. The room itself was no big deal. I thought it was quite small compared to other ships we've sailed on. The carpet had stains on it and the bathroom wasn't very clean. Next, our cabin steward, another major let down. She was by far the worst we've ever experienced. On all the other cruises we've been on, every cabin steward we've ever had went out of their way to service us (the customer/guest). They always came and introduced themselves and told us that if we needed anything to give them a call. On the Millennium, our room steward never showed her face. After two hours, I called cabin services to let them know we'd need a crib for our baby. She showed up after 20 minutes. She never introduced herself nor offered any services. One of the days our baby had thrown up on the carpet in the room because he got sick. We had told and showed her the mess, yet after three hours it wasn't cleaned. The room smelled so bad we cleaned it ourselves. At this point, I was extremely upset. I then called cabin services and yelled at them to send someone right away to spray some freshener on the carpet. They sent someone other than our cabin steward/assistant to freshen the carpet. The cabin smelled bad for two days. If the mess were cleaned right away, it wouldn't have gotten a chance to soak into the carpet as much as it did. Our cabin steward tried to half-heartedly apologize the next day. As far as the ship goes, it was okay and really no big deal. On a positive note, the dining staff was outstanding. We had an excellent waiter and assistant waiter. The food was good, but not great. The entertainment was average. The Broadway-style shows couldn't match Carnival's, by far. Most of the crew was very courteous, but on some parts of the ship, some were unfriendly. One time at the Aqua Spa, I was completely ignored after asking a crewmember a question. For the size of ship this was, the gym was small. The gym on Carnival's Victory was about three times the size. Also, none of the other ships we've been on charged $10 or anything to use their steam room each time, like Celebrity.Overall, I was very disappointed with this vacation/cruise/cruise line. We paid more for this cruise than any other we've been on, and frankly it was not worth it. We will not cruise with, or recommend Celebrity, to anyone.

A truly stunning ship. All... by ThomasA7

Ship: Celebrity Millennium

A truly stunning ship. All the areas are clean and organized for ease of use. Sophisticated decor surrounds you at every turn. The art is unique and thought provoking. Lends to the belief that you have entered a modern day OZ.The staff is exceedingly professional and gracious. My wife and I were treated with respect and our every need was met with kindness and efficiency. Our room, (cat.1A with balcony), was spacious and very clean. There is a exceptional amount of storage space and the bathroom is comfortable with a shower that was able to accommodate a man of my size (280 lbs.) with ease. The food was wonderful, most of the time, and plenty of it! The presentation was beautiful and the service was that of an upscale San Francisco hotel. The Olympic Room was beyond what I would have ever expected onboard a modership. The food was 5 star and the service went beyond that level. Well worth the additional $25 per person fee.The room truly takes you back in time to an era of over the top elegance. The entertainment was excellent and provided varied themes. This is the only area that could use some improvement, but nothing major. We enjoyed all that was offered. Jim Cannon, the Cruise Director, was professional and entertaining. An excellent cruise vacation that is a bargain at the rates charged. My wife and I would recommend this ship to anyone interested in a refined and elegant cruise experience.Tom & Jan A., California

My husband and I took... by Liz21

Ship: Celebrity Millennium

My husband and I took our first cruise ever with Celebrity in December of 2001 to the Eastern Caribbean. We found a great deal, only $499 for an outside cabin, it was a once in a lifetime special! The ship was very beautiful and elegant, especially the Metropolitan restaurant. I absolutely loved the fact that if we were hungry at any time of the day, there was food available. They had breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets, and my favorite part was the amazing desserts, especially the cheesecakes, that were offered! They also offered the breakast, lunch, and dinner seatings at the restaurant, in which better and fancier food were available. For example, we had lobster tail one night, shrimp and scallops pasta on some other nights, etc. Overall, the food was excellent, even at the buffets. There was also food for kids, such as pizza during the day in the pool area, as well as hamburgers and fries. And ice cream was available at all of the buffets! There is even a section in the buffets where pasta can be made to your personal taste. My very favorite part was the afternoon tea, do not miss it! They offered every cheesecake imaginable; amazing desserts, they were just great! The midnight buffets were amazing, great food and entertainmentent were offered. But please do not miss the last buffet which is amazing as well as the elegant afternoon tea, which only takes place once. The entertainment was good; singing and dancing shows, pianists, and comedians were showcased. I am very afraid to go on another cruise line after cruising on the Millennium. The ship was nice, the food was great, the rooms were roomy, and service was good (but I would not say that service was great). I recommend this line and this specific ship to any one!

Thanks to the Captains Club,... by LrS76415384

Ship: Celebrity Millennium

Thanks to the Captains Club, we had priority embarkation, which was terrific. We had a nice balcony cabin, but hard mattress. The stateroom attendants and dinner wait staff were excellent, although I agree with "Disappointed" about the fact that we waited a long time between courses at dinner. Unfortunately for us, smokers and children ruled this ship and none of the crew did anything to enforce the rules against smoking in certain areas or to encourage parents to keep their children well-behaved. I yelled at more wild kids than any parent on that ship (and we don't have kids). Don't cruise this ship in the summer - we had 600 kids on board. The ship had good musical groups and nice shops, although the website advertised a Donna Karan shop which has not been there for some time - a disappointment. The Park West Art auctions were great. We attended a cooking demonstration as well. The Spa was very nice and the indoor saltwater pool was heavenly. I did resent the way the spa staff tried to push their products on everyone, especially after overpaying for a massage. Dining choices included healthy fare in the spa for breakfast and lunch, which was much less crowded. We ordered room service several times via interactive TV and had to call to follow up, after waiting a long time. The TV selections were minimal and movies were so-so. The one good station had bad reception much of the time. The Captain's Club champagne and caviar reception was enjoyable.Shore excursions were nearly the same at every port ("Ultimate Caribbean" itinerary) and overpriced. Shopping was best in St. Thomas and St. Maarten. We could have done without Barbados and St. Kitts. Ship staff gave us contradictory information about customs, which led to confusion for several passengers. Disembarkation was a nightmare, completely disorganized and put a damper on the end of the trip (Captain's Club didn't really help us there).I would definitely take a Celebrity cruise again if it was a non-smoking ship.

Ship was beautiful. Our 3rd... by HarryF2

Ship: Celebrity Millennium

Ship was beautiful. Our 3rd cruise, 1st with Celebrity. Cabin, with veranda, was spacious and worked well for 12 day Mediterranean cruise of 5/31/01. Food was average to good and the Olympic Restaurant was exceptional, food and service were well done. Worth the expense and the atmosphere alone was terrific. Entertainment was excellent, especially Brian Miller from west Virginia, who was just called up to Broadway so he may not be on board now, but gives one an idea of the caliber of the entertainers.Staff was varied, cabin attendants were excellent, service with regular waiter in evenings was wonderful, but many of the crew at various positions were indifferent and not understanding of what is needed to be where they should (an could be) in customer service. I found the pool attendants to be lazy, spending time chatting amongst themselves, didn't clean quickly around pool. Crew didn't smile like on NCL line, Captain was a non-existant entity, as were most officers. Leadership not apparent among "hotel staff" on crew. Ship itself was so very laid out, but gym was small and I was surprised very little organized fitness or work out/stretching classes. NCL Sky was so much nicer with its gym and workout programs. Shops were well stocked and at typical cruise ship prices. The 12-day Med. cruise itenary was incredible. Ports of call were excellent. We did all organized tours and all were good to exceptional. Just needed more sea days at the end to break up long tour days at end of cruise. Having Naples, Rome, the Rivera and Barcelona back to back was too much. Missed the sea days to relax between busy tour days. Ship was smooth and stable. Deck band was ok, but didn't play enough. Good dhip that with leadership and attitude could be much, much better.

11 day Millennium cruise on... by ChuckW65602716

Ship: Celebrity Millennium

11 day Millennium cruise on September 23rd was 1st Adult Escape--nice not having children around. Embarkation very smooth and efficient with welcome aboard champagne ( I understand this will become standard). All ship personnel were very friendly and service-oriented. Food service was very good with evening sushi bar outstanding and Olympic restaurant extraordinary. Ship facilities attractive and convenient. Bar service was excellent and entertainment was appropriate for crowd of older adults without offensive "adult" entertainment. I knew I was traveling during hurricane season so weather might be a problem. Isidore arrived in Mexico just before we did. Shore excursions were cancelled the night before arrival and some passengers were notified of the cancellation, others did not find out until breakfast. Captain still tried to dock at Cozumel, unsuccessfully. With shore trips cancelled, what was the point of going? Ship needs to have a better foul weather-port cancellation plan for passengers. Leaving Aruba, Captain made good decision to skip Grand Cayman where Lili has passed night before and go to Nassau instead. Extra days at sea were planned better this time. New disembarkation procedure with guests staying in cabins and gathering in public areas in groups worked very well-no "homeless" passengers sitting on floors or stairways. Having read other comments, I was uncertain what to expect. I guess a trip is what you make of it and some people can always find something to complain about. I centainly would not hesitate to sail with Celebrity again and am, in fact, at the end of October.

The one thing that strikes... by CindyK3

Ship: Celebrity Millennium

The one thing that strikes you upon boarding this ship is that almost no one smiles at you. After 54 cruises, two of them on Celebrity's Mercury, we were very dissapointed with the lack of enthusiasm on the part of the crew for the passengers. We were kind of an annoyance to them.We saw passengers pushed out of the way at the casual meal service by cruise staff members who were eating in the passenger area. Problems were never solved. The customer relations (purser's) desk was always understaffed with long lines of unhappy passengers waiting for answers that never came. The Purser and Hotel manager never showed their faces. Every problem was ducked.I never witnessed so much grumbling among passengers. This ship is just too big and it seems that Celebrity doesn't know how to create the right kind of atmosphere when dealing with a ship this size. What seems to be their attempt at elegance turned into tenseness and unfriendliness.Although the ship is beautiful, it was not a good experience. We won't be sailing on this ship nor any other big Celebrity ship again.

This was a big ship... by JillS12

Ship: Celebrity Millennium

This was a big ship but the staff and service were wonderful. Almost every waiter, attendant, busboy had a smile or a hello. They were all charming and diffident. It seemed that at least on my cruise, there were alot of relaxed cheerful people who were having a great time. Food service was exemplary and perfectly timed as we had two kids. We had a hard time tearing my son away from the Fun Factory (kids program) which was nearly perfect. We had a great time. The only dissappointment was the saltiness of the pools that were either too cold or too hot.J. Schilling
