Celebrity Millennium

12 Night Mediterranean Legacies (Venice To Barcelona)

Sail date: August 06, 2006

Ship: Celebrity Millennium

Cabin type: Balcony

Traveled as: Family (older children)

Review summary

Great ship, well designed and user-friendly. Crew eager to help, cruise director friendly and professional. Shows were good, but we would have liked a magician. Our cabin for four practical and beds very confortable. Too many kids in the Adult-only AquaSpa and not enough policing.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We cruise Celebrity for the food, actually. We know it will be excellent.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Is the sound technician deaf by now? Why do the shows have to be so loud, which drowns the quality of the music/songs and turns a show into a screech.

Service and Staff

Nice people.

Well-designed cabin.

Ports of call

Barcelona, Spain

Yes there is the Sagrada Familia and Picasso Museum. Take the kids to the Chocolate Museum (near the Picasso) . For kids, the Aquarium in the harbor is good. Nice collection of fishes.
Don't Miss: Try the zoo, which is pretty amazing and has animals we've never seen before.

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

5 out of 5
Pisa is a great half-day excursion. Get tickets for the tower on the internet before leaving home or get there early.
Don't Miss: Take a horse-drawn carriage through town.

Santorini, Greece

5 out of 5
Don't bother going to the archaeological sites. Wall through Fira and hop on a bus to the beach.
Don't Miss: The museum in Fira with wall paintings from the archaeological sites.

Villefranche-Sur-Mer, France

5 out of 5
Hop on the public bus to Nice. The old city is to the left of the bus terminal. Walk-through and enjoy the market, ice-cream, stores. Buy sweets and walk to the beach for a nice swim.
Don't Miss: The ice-cream. How often do you get to try Lavender ice cream

Venice, Italy

5 out of 5
Walk, just walk through the town, for a good flavor. Take public boat to Murano (don't spend on an excursion to go there, you can do it on your own.)
Don't Miss: Take a gondola, but on a side street to avoid being ripped off at St. Mark's Square

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

3 out of 5
Noisy, polluted, Acropolis poorly organized. Bring a guide book, narrow down your activities for the day and watch out for taxi drivers. We got REALLY ripped off. They were RUDE, I mean THIEVES.
Don't Miss: Acropolis' new museum, so you don't have to go over to the city's museum.

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

5 out of 5
The basilica is a must. Three hour wait for the Sistine Chapel.
Don't Miss: Do the "Rome on your own" tour, so you can pace yourself and not have stop everything to get back to the tour bus.

Naples, Italy

5 out of 5
Take a tour to Pompei in the morning. Back to ship for lunch. Then go to the city museum to see wall paintings and treasures from Pompei. If you don't have kids, and are rested, do the tour to Capri in addition to Pompei.
Don't Miss: city museum with artifacts from Pompei.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

5 out of 5
Don't take the boat shuttle for 10 dollars a person when a taxi into town, available at the pier, is 10 dollars a family.
Don't Miss: Walk the wall around the city.

Pros: The ship and the itinerary

Cons: Sound too loud in theater, complicated and confusing tipping system
