Review summary

The Celebrity Infinity cruise from Rome (Civitavecchia) to Venice was one of the best itineraries we've been on in the Mediterranean and only had 1 sea day. It's an active itinerary, so don't plan to have much pool deck time unless you don't want to get off the boat at every port. Staff are very friendly, boat is a bit "tired" and needs updating (as of August, 2019). If you like gelato, and who doesn't?, be sure to check out the daily selections of ice cream in the Oceanview Cafe. Flavors like coconut and others were a nice surprise!

Embarkation

Boarding the ship in Civitavecchia was so easy! We uploaded our photos when we were doing our cruise documents online. When we arrived at the port we were directed to walk on without waiting in any lines or dealing with crowds. It was very nice!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The waiters and staff were very interested in providing excellent customer service and meeting special requests like a baked potato instead of other option with salmon dinner. Lobster & baked Alaska were a nice treat one night. Oceanview Café always had a nice selection of hard ice cream in yummy flavors between 12 noon and closing (no surcharge) - MUCH better than soft serve that many cruise ships have opted for.

Ahhh, the Solarium! Very nice and peaceful!

The ship was clean, but getting dated.

Cabin / Stateroom

We booked a guarantee room and were assigned Room 7141. It was an oversized handicap accessible room that had a nice, large balcony and did not have any noise from the nearby elevator. We did not need/request a handicap room - but we LOVED the larger bathroom and extra space. I would highly recommend this cabin.

Ship tip

Bring magnetic hooks and clips to keep invitations to events, daily schedule, next day's shore excurision vouchers, and stuff convenient. I put the hooks right next to the light switch by the entry door. They are perfect for caps & our seapass lanyards, and anything you need as you exit.

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

I wish we'd had more time after landing to do the Rome tour with the airport transfer. We've been to Rome before, so it's okay we missed it this time. Last time we stayed in Rome 3 days before the cruise & really enjoyed it.

Messina, Sicily

We walked around Messina & had a nice day. Last time we visited this port we did a shore excursion with lunch to Taromina & I would highly recommend that for a first visit to Sicily.

Valletta, Malta

The tour of the 3 Harbors and Malta Experience was very interesting and pretty. We booked our tour with another shore excurision company and the guide was late and an unmarked van picked us up. Next time I would use the cruise provider's shore excursion or take a cab.

Argostoli, Kefalonia, Greece

Poor Argostoli suffered a major earthquake in 1953 that destroyed all the old buildings and the ruins we visited weren't much. Then, on to an organic garden that was just barely a weed patch, the tour bus was 45 minutes late (arriving by ferry from another port), AC didn't work well so we were very hot in August 2019, and the intercom didn't work so there was very little narration. Tour guide was unhappy and said she didn't want to hurt her voice and wasn't going to yell so people could hear her. Skip this tour - I WISH THEY WOULD ADD A CULINARY TOUR/GREEK COOKING CLASS as an option! C'mon - good wine & how to make a Greek Salad with dressing from scratch would have been MUCH BETTER!

Dubrovnik, Croatia

EXCELLENT STOP! We took the Cable Car ride to the top of the mountain and had spectacular views of the walled city, castle from Game of Thrones, and water views. This was truly beautiful! Next, our guide took us for a walk around the old city and stopped in a museum to tell us about the war and how Yugoslavia broke into several countries, pictures of the burning city, and a lot of history. We were then given time to shop and walk on our own. We had some delicious gelato at a little sidewalk cafe. NOTE - they don't use Euros, they use Kuna. Some shops will accept Euros, but many little ones don't. Ask before ordering!

Koper, Slovenia

Koper was a hidden gem and exceeded my expectations. We took a tour along the coast and stopped at a historic fishing village for about an hour on our own. The history of the salt mines and how it was called "white gold" in ancient times because it was used to preserve food & meat was interesting. They still produce some salt in evaporation ponds & this makes a fun and easy to pack souvenier that's actually useful and fun to cook with when you get home.

Venice, Italy

Venice is AMAZING!!! This was the highlight of our trip! We stayed for 3 days afterwards at a very quaint & authentic waterfront hotel with only 14 rooms called Pensione Wildner with a view of the entrance to the Grand Canal. Rates were reasonable, the deluxe lagoon view room had a sitting area and 2 windows with window boxes (and real flowers!) overlooking the Lagoon. It was magical at night, great for walking to St. Marks, shops, and the Rialto Bridge was about a 15 minute walk. We arrived early in the morning (before our room was ready) so the owner arranged a free tour of a glass factory & transportation to Murano that met about 1/2 hour later. He gave us a Coke at the waterfront cafe in the hotel. Our room included a complimentary breakfast daily with the best croissants I've ever tasted! Mmmmm! Pensione Wildner - this is a GREAT place to stay in Venice!

Easy, just walked off the boat, walked through quick moving customs line, and headed to our hotel.
