Review summary
We choose this cruise because of the large number of ports we could visit. We were also led to believe it had a 5 star rating. For us, this did not live up to expectations and we were all extremely dissapointed. Firstly and formost unbelievably i was served CHICKEN instead of tofu in the dining room on the first night that i attended the dining room, after i had gone to the trouble of explaining and pre ordering ( the night before.. because the cruise can't be bothered to have a VEGAN option on the menu) i have not eaten an animal since i was a child and i began shaking as i realised what i had just spat out. The waiter was apologetic however one would think that a bit of labelling would have saved their embarrassement. Unfortunately the cruise lines food education seems to be 30 years behind the rest of the world. For example... there was not one label for vegan in the buffet or on the menus in dining room, but there were labels for sugar free, gluten free and vegetarian.. One would think that a ship carrying 3000 people, some with allergies and dietary needs would make it a priority. Why the hell haven't they taken a note from Pret a Mangers book( who killed 2 people with allergies recently because of incorrect labelling) i find it bazaar that the cruise line don't take peoples safety more seriously. To compound things i was reassured that one of the managers would ensure what came oit of kitchen was vegan on following nights but this did not happen i was served sweetcorn soup which had butter in it. The night after that i was served my main and starter together whilst my parents waited 20 minutes for their starters to come and mains followed half hour after i had eaten. When they served the main to my parents they had left something off the order and when i asked the waiter if he could get it he mumbled begrudgingly.. "is there anything else cause ill have to go all the way down again". Once finshed the manager came over and asked how we rate the service. I started to go through all the issues we had and he rather agressively asked again" but how you rate the service" .. he put alot of pressure on us to say it was good,!! But i was not going to lie!! He then said " i dont want to get my waiter marked down" ..obviously a silly thing to say!!!the next night they promised to make up for it and in part they did but they came asking every 5 minutes " how do you rate the service" quite honestly it felt so insincere... they knew it was, by now, on next to last night so obviously worried abiut reviews and tips.. but it all came too late. On the last night we decided to eat in the buffet deck to avoid the pressure in the dining room. The manager actually came looking for us!!! Imagine that ! It felt very stalkery!! My parents were not amused! In terms of cleanliness, the cabin was ok but when we arrived we found chocolates stuffed in drawers and wrappers on floors. I didnt think the cleaning was very good. I own a hotel and if my cleaner left the room as we found it , i would have sacked thrm. There were 3 of us in the room and on a number of days our room steward " FORGOT" to put out 3 towels. The room was also very small for 3 people such thst we could not even get a wheelchair in the room. The ship itself felt dated and tired and in need of a bit oif an overhall in some areas. There was nothing much on when we were at sea for 2 days. I would have expected some more talks and perhaps more utilization of the theatre. There were a few staff on board who were nice but on the whole we found the staff not bothered!! And infact one of the staff on way back to the ship took my mums wheelchair and told her to get out of it. He then took it away to the terminal to colkect other people. It took us 20 minutes to get it back Altogether dissapointing cruiseEmbarkation
