All the glass windows on the ship were filthy with dried. sea salt. It looks as if they have NOT been cleaned in months. The buffet, pool area and our balcony stateroom, when you looked through the windows all had a white haze and streaks of dried sea salt on them. The railing on our balcony actually had dried sea salt on it and when you rested your arms on the railing and lifted your arms they had the salt stuck to them.

FOOD, My wife sent her dinner back twice both times the meat was overcooked. She asked for rare she got well done. Two mornings when my wife woke up she had a loose stomach I was fine. We heard quite a few people were sick on the ship.

Anytime we cruise we get a balcony stateroom. One of my greatest pleasures while cruising is to have my first cup of coffee of the day sitting out on the balcony looking out at the water listening to the sounds and just relaxing. I am not tall and when I sit on a balcony chair I have to look through the railing glass to see the water. Not once this cruise did I do that because the glass was filthy! Of all the cruises we took in the past this is the only time we had this problem. At the buffet we liked to get  window seats to eat and look at the ocean. Not this time the glass was flthy.

All Carnival Cruises are NOT created equal! by Susanfalcetta

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

There are not enough words to express our disappointment. Even though Carnival has had it's share of difficulties in the past year, we had a great experience on the Miracle, so we decided to give them another go at it, thinking thy would be especially attentive wanting to re- build their reputation. Boy, were we wrong! The morale was low. The service was poor (except for an amazing deck steward, Putu,  and very hard working waiter, Yoseph). Our travel mate had requested low salt/ no salt menus and every single night there was an issue! Her food would come considerably later than ours and still be way too salty. It made dinner uncomfortable for the rest of us, as we waited. I personally felt that the food was much too salty but was afraid to request low sal/no salt after I saw was she was going through! The Big wheel in the dining room would stop by to check with the service and when we complained he responded with a litiney of excuses and even mentioned that no one else had complained. REALLY?!  Bad PR! The buffets were fair and too crowded and closed too soon. I was underwhelmed most days, honestly.  The music was too loud....all the time, as if you were trying to convince us by sheer volume that we were having a great time. It was hard to find quiet anywhere.  The no smoking policy was too relaxed and having the casino in the middle didn't help. I went to my floor and could still smell smoke most days ( floor seven). It also filled the elevators on many occasions.  The top off, however, happened the day of disembarkation. I was in a full- fledged medical emergency and was told that my name wasn't on a list for a wheel chair. We were very concerned that we would miss our bus and was told we'd be better off walking to the luggage claim. So, in full on gall bladder attack, I struggled down the gang plank, dizzy and in extreme pain. I had emergency surgery to have my gallbladder removed when I returned, by the way, lest you think I am exaggerating my symtoms. I didn't find a shred of compassion as I sat writhing in pain, until a kind man from Carnival saved us at the end of the ramp. He was returning a wheelchair when my husband asked him if he could please help us. He went above and beyond, taking us to baggage claim, through customs and right to the bus, which was waiting for us.  Carnival, it was the "little guy" that showed us care and compassion.....the deck steward, the waiter and this other lowly servant. Shame on you who wore uppity uniforms but treated us as if we were an inconvenience! I am so disappointed in Carnival. We cruise at least once a year but have list faith in your cruise line, I am afraid. I am home recouperating from surgery and frankly, not basking in good memories of my vacation! First Cruise in 74 years by soundwave

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Being that I never took a Cruise before I was apprehensive in taking an 8 day trip at sea.We boarded the Carnival Splendor in New York City without any hassle. We were able to relax in the dining area and get something to eat while our cabin was be prepared. When we got to our cabin and opened the door we were amazed in how beautiful our surrounding were. It was a beautiful Suite. Every day my son and I had a new exciting and positive experience. Every member of the ships crew were pleasent, warm and inviting. To list our great activities would be too numerous, so I would like to list our highlights. The Steakhouse is amazing, the shows are great and the Showband on the ship was extraordinary. My only negative was; I will never take a ship out of New York city again. A lot of the guests on board were very rude not only with the other guest but with the ships staff.

Emergency at Sea by Rae

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

If you have an emergency at sea this is the ship to have it one.  The medical staff was on the ball and the doctor knowledgeable.  After the emergency was over and the patient was up and around the rest of the cruise the Front Desk on the ship kept tabs on Jan to see if anymore could be done.

splendor not so splendid by jcsemperfi123

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

we went on the Splendor on October 8, 2013.  Upon arrival we were delighted, we love cruising.  That didnt last long.  There were no steel drums playing as we expected heading down to the caribban, only beyonce on their movie screen.  For the next 8 days we heard Mariah Carey, Phil Collins Billy Joel and Beyonce' being re-run all week long and it got old fast.  That doesnt do anything to give you the feel for the islands.

The food and service were not great.  We did this itinerary 3 years ago on the Miracle and it was fantastic.

Though we love cruising we will not be cruising the Splendor again.    Carnival is making cut backs in the wrong places and it shows.  Everyone was saying the same thing, where is the Calypso and Reggae music we are used to hearing on Lido and why is the buffet closed all the time.  This cruise just didnt measure up when compared to the others we've taken.

Had a ball.   The servce and food were great.  Second year in a row at the same time of year to the Bahamas.  Had fun both times.  Want to go once a year for the rest of my life.  It is so great not to have to do anything for a whole week.  People wait on you and treat you like royalty.  Love the excursions.  Went hore-back riding in the ocean.  Would love to do that again.

cutting down on items by boaterbob

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

this was my 6 th cruise with carnival love the ships and the crew but i see they are cutting down on service and food varity. less food stations open also during lunch and dinner so longer lines. we got a balcony cabin so we can read at night you couldnt turn light on balcony never had that problem befor they gave me a song and a dance. this boat you cant smoke on right side of pool like the miracle so wife hjad to go to 10 deck and go outside. and also the 10 th deck had tables all aroung the deck but they had no food condiments on tables and said we werent allowed to bring them up wierd. by the sixth day i was getiing tired of the same old food we did not go to main dinning room only once. had better food but i dont like sitting with 6 other people. for the price i paid was 700 less then last year for same cruise so i cant complain much. we are not to picky so it didnt bother me too much  i just see the difference every time i use carnival.

I am done with carnival forever by JennLissa528

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Thank goodness we met up with friends. Or we would have been bored. The shows are awful, like heart wrenching painful! There is nothing to do on the boat except gamble or lay out or drink. The splendor was painfully pink everywhere. It was complete boredom. Bar staff was horrible. The morale of the staff was seen through their frustration. The crew was very disorganized in every post they worked. Communication was a total breakdown between customers and staff. All in all, I will not be cruising with Carnival again. Being a platinum cruiser this has been the worse experience. The room I was in was terrible and kept me up every night due to a crack in the ceiling with what seemed like a metal ball rolling around at all times of the day and night. Nothing was done to compensate me other than a 20% credit. I will not be recommending Carnival to my friends and family.

Great first cruise! by NewIslandHopper

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Courteous and very helpful staff. So much to do on the ship, not sure I explored everything. Great food whether dining at one of the restaurants or many of the buffet options in the lido deck. If there's any takeaways, it's that the cruise ended. Highly recommended and will certainly make a return myself.

Never Again by Hsunami

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We booked our Carnival cruise to Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay & Nassau Bahamas for my wife's birthday. This is our 2nd cruise. Last summer we cruised on the Norwegian Star to Bermuda. We left out of Pier 90 in Manhattan , NY. What a mess. There were a few large groups , " Family & Friends" cruising together. The words to describe them: RUDE, OBNOXIOUS, LOUD, INCONSIDERATE , LOW CLASS, ETC. We knew exactly who to avoid on the 7 nights aboard this ship. I found out that the Carnival Splendor was the ship that had the toilet issues and other mechanical problems AFTER the cruise was booked. I was concerned, but we took our chances. The ship was technically sound until our last day at Nassau. We were delayed in port till close to 7:00pm, as we were to leave port by 4pm. Just glad there were no major problems. Our cabin was great. Very spacious with a couch and King size bed. Better than our Norwegian cabin. Both Oceanview. The food was horrible. Buffets were closed most of the time with very long lines. The ice tea tasted like a chemistry project. The breakfast was mostly the same powdered eggs, fake sausage links and continental style. You had to wait in the omelette station line while people rushed back and forth through the line as it backed up. Same goes for the Mongolian Wok Chinese noodle station. I understand that you have to wait in line, but I feel that they didn't have enough stations opened for the amount of people cruising. There were only 2 restaurants to dine at without charge with moderate to long lines daily. The food was average. Nothing special at all. The thing that drove us crazy was that they had Photo stations set up every 10 feet to take photos! How annoying! You pass the same people 2-3 times going to different shows , Piano bar , etc, and they keep soliciting you for a photo. They did this at dinner too. One night they sent in a PIRATE to pose with. Unprofessional. This isn't a Disney Cruise. o.k. ... the jacuzzis were always packed and also the pool . But on a better note, the water slide was pretty fun and you didn't have to wait too long. The gym wasn't too crowed at the times we went daily and " Groovy Tunes with Keith" made the cruise better for us. Keith was awesome! Great voice, great guitar skills, sarcastically funny and had great song selections. And a tasting station "California Roll" had really good samples. Our days at port were amazing. We kayaked in Grand Turk, Horseback rode at Half Moon Cay & went to Atlantis in Nassau , Bahamas. We purchased the excursions on board and had no issues. Next time we will fly to the island and enjoy more time there instead of the 4-6 hours they give you before returning aboard. All in all, the ship experience wasn't totally bad, but not great. We made the best of it and enjoyed ourselves. I would not recommend Carnival cruise line unless money is a major concern. Now I know why the cruise was so cheap, we booked Carnival due to scheduling. So, NEVER AGAIN with Carnival for us.

western caribbean cruise by cruisingwithfam

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

we had a wonderful time on this cruise. The food was fantastic and the wait staff (Lesley and his team) was exceptional. Any thing that was requested was promptly taken care of. We stayed in an inside cabin this time and was very satisfied with our room. We previously sailed on the carnival glory and feel that it is more modern that the Splendor. On the glory the hot tub in the serenity area was great, on the splendor had to contend with kids splashing and the hot tub not so hot. Actually not much difference in the pool and hot tub tempature. Half Moon Cay was great, loved it. Entertainment was top notch.

Splendor by tracie804

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

As expected on every Carnival cruise, we had such a fun time!! It truly is a fun cruise. The rooms were very spacious compared to Norwegian. The only real complaint was that our credit card that we kept on file had to be reactivated like every day. That meant when we went to use our onboard card it came up declined and we had to keep going to the front desk and wait on line an re swipe our cc. I suggest a regular credit card and not a debit card!! But overall i was pleased with everything else!!!!

Worst cruise ever... by Nancevee

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I been on over 20 cruises and most of them have been on Carnival. This cruise was the most ghetto cruise ever. People were rude, didn't know how to wait in line for the buffet. Every time I turned around there was someone cutting in front and reaching over towards the buffet. Totally rude! Also, the food choices were very few and it seemed like they had the same thing everyday. The tables were not being cleaned off immediately on the Lido deck. The shows are all the same, once you seen one, you seen them all. VIP debarkation was a joke. They had all the self-assisted passengers get off first, which turned out to be about half of the 3,000 passengers on board. We had to wait an extra 2 1/2 hours to get off. What's the point of being VIP if your not getting treated as one. They should of let disabled people or in need of assistance off first, then VIP and afterwards the self-assisted. Carnival needs to start getting their act together or they are gonna start loosing a lot of business. My next cruise will definitely be with Holland America.

1 st carnival cruise by 1stcarnival

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

With the "exception" of our stateroom accomodations "NOT" being delivered as promised & the lack of assistance recieved on the 1st day only from only 2 staff members, our overall trip was met with a hardworking friendly staff. The room that was booked, was not the room that was recieved, therefore forcing a senior citizen& 2 children 1 with a severe disablity &myself had to be forced into very uncomfortable sleeping accomodations for a 8 day cruise! In addition a total of over 3 hrs was spent at the begininning of the cruise at the front desk on the phone with several different reps trying to get this matter rectified only to be told it would be taken care of at the end of the cruise (which we have yet to hear from anyone with regards to the matter). Needless to say we were forced to stand @the desk as i stated before with a senior citizen, 2 kids 1 with a severe disability all the while missing out on the ship sailing away from port as well as additional departing activities! The end result 3 of the 4 passengers also became sick with 1 having to seek medical treatment of antibiotics!

It was our second cruise after we took NY-Canada two years a go. We liked it Canadian Cruise better due to more mature gust and better ship configuration. Most of crews are friendly but little warnd up by rude customers? Specially Buffet area... Caribbean are so beautiful and we enjoyed but hope to spend much more time in there. By the way sushi was pitiful.

Great host by 8daynyc

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I think the host "woo woo" was something i will never forget. he's involved in everything, i mean everything from the morning greetings , shows and the last face i saw leaving the boat. GREAT host, GREAT energy !!. i know its a tough job and it takes a lot of energy BUT i was a little dissapointed when finally meeting him, not a personal person. I got the vibe like im the star and who are you again? but other then that he was great.
