Costa Maya saved the vacation by hwall3r

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our favorite part of the cruise was Costa Maya. We booked this particular cruise, so we could visit our he ruins. We did the VIP excursion and it was well worth it.

The worst part of the cruise was the food. Out of three cruises my first two had great food, so I thought I would be telling my friends about all the different meals we had on board. That won't happen. The breakfast buffet outside on the Lido deck never opened on time, which does not matter while you are sailing, but when you are short on time because you have an excursion to be ready for. That's terrible.

Things seem to be very unorganized. We docked at costa maya and we were required to meet on deck 9 at one end of the ship at 7:45. Our exit door was on the 3 floor at the other end. The coordinator for the group on board could not tell us why we were still sitting there until 8:30. It was because they were having problems  docking the ship. I don't mind waiting but tell me why we are just sitting in a room when our excursion is scheduled to be starting at 8:30. We finally got off the ship by 9:00 and got to our tour guides.

Vacation Cruise by surles

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I enjoyed the Cruise, the entertainment was to spaced out and seemed more for children than on the previous cruises I have been on. The waiter I had was awesome and French was as well. I enjoyed the location.I wasn't expecting that many children to be on the  cruise, some were allowed to go in places they shouldn't.

Had Fun - Great for small kids by heidimaynard

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had a great time, the ship was adequate, rather outdated but with small children is was ok. Cozumel was a great port to visit, the dolphin excursion was a blast but Costa Maya was a waste of time. Its a run down dump. I was not impressed. I did however really enjoy the spa and my kids loved the kidscamp. They had a lot of great activities throughout the day. My kids are 3 and 5 and I felt safe leaving them. They provided us with a cell phone in case they needed to reach us all free of charge. They had a lot of safety measures in place. Not once did I have to worry.

Very Friendly Staff by nadiathompson

Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I loved my time on the Carnival Paradise, we had great activities, entertainment and saw some beautiful staff. The best part of the cruise was the friendly and attentive staff. Our cabin attendant Raul made sure that our room was well taken care what seems like every time we left the room Happy. We loved the towel animals. We also loved our waiter Watson, who was very attentive and made sure that we were completely satisfied with our dinner every night. Thank you for making my first cruise experience a blast.

Friendly Cruise, Disappointing Destinations by dsedlak

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was nice - clean rooms, good food, super friendly staff and personnel. The destinations (Cozumel and Costa Maya) had nothing very enticing about them. ...there was nothing cultural or visually stimulating about either place. Neither is a place to go to if you are looking for learning about local traditions or getting a dose of a new culture. Fortunately, we signed up for a resort day and an adventure park - I had felt guilty about booking such an "American" excursion but knew I made the right decision the moment I stepped off the boat. Also, surprisingly, was the fact that even the taxi drivers weren't welcoming. In other travels, I've always found taxi drivers to be great resources and ambassadors of their locations, quick to recommend places to go and sites to see. Our rides were silently awkward drives to our destinations.

Great trip by danag24

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

excellent trip with fun activities and excursion. The dinning room was a great place each night to enjoy stories and family time. There were lots of great things for everybody to do. I think having a smokefree ship would be great too. There was too much smoke to enjoy the casino floor.

Lively cruise by lauraford57

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The sea was rough, and there were unsupervised teenagers on board, who were destructive. Because I don't gamble (can't stand the smoke) there were limited activities for me to enjoy with my daughter. The shore excursions were fun - but on board entertainment was lack luster, and neither one of us were comfortable with the rowdy high school kids.

Never again on spring break by prancingnoodle

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Went on this cruise on April 1 with just my husband. Teenagers broke all the elevator buttons in the elevators. Food was ok, nothing great. They changed the ports about a month before the cruise to go to Costa Maya instead of Cayman Islands which is why I picked this in the first place.) I thought a month out would give them enough time to fix the problem with the ship to make it go slow, but I was wrong. Crew was nice but not like they have been on previous Carnival cruises. They had to ration out the bacon in the mornings since the kids were all unsupervised. Next time I will splurge and go on the bigger ships so we have more fun stuff to do.

How bad the service is at the Tampa port . by teebonk

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Did not have a favorite part on the cruise , we were not allowed to board the ship . Arrived ar 3:45pm , while I was parking the vehicle my Wife was processed through, but would not allow me the individual in charge said She was closing out Her box and would not allow me to be processed through. Everyone else did not have a problem with us going through but this one individual would not allow it. So we did not get to go on any cruise. As it stands now we will not b booking any more cruises with Carnival Cruise Lines, we also told we oiled not be getting a refund for missed cruise.

Excellent cruise for our family. We were disappointed the land stops were altered and not able to see Grand Cayman. Wonderful service on the ship in all areas; tours were better than expected; will travel with Carnival again.

A mixed experience by AnubhavJain

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Favorite was the little magic show by Mr. Suraj at the Destiny Dinner Hall.  Lot of improvements can be made

1. The stateroom shower leaked into the room causing foul smell all through the stay.

2. The internet speed even for the top package was awful.  Even staff recoganized that.

3. Entertainment was only geared towards one ethnicity of people.

4. Duty free items were more costly than retail prices in mainland.

They cancelled half of my honeymoon by karaanner

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I've since learned that my first mistake was to even book a Carnival cruise to begin with. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. I am so angry with these people that it's unbelievable. Not only did they change the itinerary a month before by changing a port of call due to "mechanical issues with the ships maximum cruising speed" (not very comforting to be told), they canceled our entire second day of port and blamed it on the weather. Not incredibly believable when the weather was barely overcast, and we could clearly see at least 3 other ships in port with passengers disembarking. They sat in the port for half an hour and just gave up, turned around, and essentially stranded us at sea for an extra day. For some people this wouldn't be an issue, but this ship has practically nothing to do and it was saturated with people- there was only one small pool that was constantly full, the crew doesn't enforce the 40 minute vacant deck chair rule so it's next to impossible to get a deck chair, and the activities are repeats of previous days. Drinking, gambling, and shopping are the only things to do on board, and I was NOT about to give that cruise more of my money after they canceled half of my honeymoon without even giving us a credit for it. And as if that wasn't enough, our toilet broke one of the days- and apparently there were other passengers whose toilet NEVER worked the entire cruise. Disappointment isn't a strong enough word. DO NOT EVER WASTE YOUR MONEY ON CARNIVAL. The only reason this isn't a 1 star review is the food and dining staff were as excellent as they could be under the circumstances.

Bait and Switch by MrNowBoarding

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

While the Carnival staff were accommodating and friendly, we had booked this cruise primarily because of the itinerary that included a stop in the Cayman Islands. When Carnival changed the itinerary due to engine trouble with their ship (requiring the ship to travel at slower speeds), they compensated customers by giving a merely $25 per-person on-board credit.  On top of that, the replacement stop (Costa Maya) turned into another day at sea when the ship could not dock at that location due to weather conditions.  While we can't fault Carnival for weather conditions, we certainly fault them for problems with their own ship which required the cancellation of the original stop in Grand Cayman, and a very poor customer compensation.  We'd be willing to bet that they saved more than what the credit cost them in lower fuel consumption.  Also, the ship, especially the cabins, are very dated and worn.  It was our first and last cruise with Carnival.

Worst Carnival Cruise I Have Been On by jenniferwinstea

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

To start our second destination was changed and we were not notified until a few days beforw the cruise. Then we were not even able to dock at our second destination.  The menu has changed and now you have to pay extra for lobster tail when they used to serve it on captians dinner.  The staff all seemed pissed off the whole time we were on.  The only pleasant one was the cruise director she was amazing. Overall a big disappointment. Don't know if i will ever cruise with Carnival again. Which is sad cause this was our 5th cryise with them

Carnival Paradise by harold103

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

As a long time cruiser with Carnival, I expected a clean, well kept, and friendly cruise.  Wow was I ever wrong.   The ship was in poor condition, the elevators were either not working, broken down, or just plain filthy.  Sewer back up that smelled so bad for two days it made you sick.   The crew was not friendly, the comman areas dirty, the food so-so.  The Casino staff were VERY nice and friendly.   I do not recommend this ship to anyone.  Almost forgot---shore excursion was canceled at the last minute.

Very Good Cruise experience by Cruiser72897221

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Although this was on an older ship and we were notified that the engines were being worked on for the speed, we were pleasantly surprised that this was a very smooth cruise. No weather or mechanical issues were noticed. It was clean and staff were pleasant and helpful. We are seasoned cruisers and even though it was Spring break, there was plenty of open deck to sun in. The food was good as well.

Great staff but boat lackluster by gausloos

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Paradise / Destination: Caribbean - Western

You could not ask for a better staff on board the Paradise. Our cruise director Jamie was amazing, very enthusiastic and engaging. Our room steward, Dennis, was awesome. He was so great with interacting with the kids and did a top notch job. The only down side was really the ship, it is old and it looks and feels it. This ship could really use some love and moderization.
