We really enjoyed the time away. The scenery was epic. We saw whales from our deck and watched the snow-capped mountains as we cruised. This was our first cruise since the pandemic began and we were excited to get back again. The staff was outstanding and made the cruise very enjoyable. I wish masks were mandatory for all because getting home with COVID takes a little bit of the joy away. I realize mask-wearing is now a political issue and that is too bad but my fear is if COVID starts to rise again on cruise ships it will ruin cruising for too many.
Embarkation
2 out of 5
The ship was late getting to port so it delayed our embarkation. The chaos that followed was not fun. I have been on over 20 cruises and I never had to wait in such along line just to drop off luggage and then another long line to get into the facility. I think the biggest problem, besides not enough Carnival employees, was the people who arrived early and were trying to push their way into the building. If you have an appointment to check-in at 1:00 in the afternoon please don't show up at 10:00 in the morning and demand you be checked-in. Its not rocket science....you look at your appointment time and then look at your watch and arrive on-time!
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Overall the food was fine. The service was outstanding. There were some meals that would rate a 5 and some would rate a 3. My issue is I have a gluten allergy and my wife has a dairy allergy so we are a pain to feed. The beef tenderloin was one of the BEST meals of my life! Not sure what the wine sauce was that was delivered with many meals.....taste it before you eat it. It was awful!
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
We were afraid of contracting COVID so we literally avoided all activities. Didn't help we still ended up testing positive for COVID the day we arrived home.
Entertainment
We didn't go go to any of the entertainment
Children's Programs
No kids
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Can't say enough about the hard-working staff. Everyone working on the ship has to wear a mask all the time and they still have great attitudes and work so hard to make the guests feel welcome.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The ship is an older ship so it is showing its age but the staff still does a good job of keeping it maintained.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Overall, this is a good cabin. The extra deck was nice but we couldn't use it as often as we would have liked because it was bit cold out! Again, the ship and cabin are older and showing signs of wear. If you are looking for a Waldorf Astoria-experience you may want to consider a newer ship. For us this cabin was more than adequate.
Ship tip
Do your best to wear a mask if you want to avoid COVID. We wore masks all the time and still ended up with it. One of our seatmates at dinner also come down with it. We think our neighbor had COVID in the middle of the week as we could hear her talking about her symptoms while she was out on her deck mid-week. Be careful...COVID is real and it's highly contagious
We did take the excursion which was the smaller boat to take us closer to the glacier but there was too much to get really close. I know many people have said it was well worth the money but I am not sure I would do it again.
We are lucky enough to be platinum members so we had a very simple disembarkation. We walked across the street with our luggage and called an UBER and got away from everything very quickly.
We’re going on 16 day Hawaiian cruise in September on The Miracle. We’ve been on all the bigger ships and I’m a bit concerned that The Miracle will be as fun as the other ships and food matches the same quality and options. We’re on it for the Hawaiian experience but want the amazing carnival experience. We’re you happy with the ship and the amenities / lots to do / great food ?
I am glad you enjoyed your cruise. Thank you for sharing your review.
We are fully vaxed and completed the requirements to cruise and then we unplugged from the news & politics to thoroughly enjoy our cruise vacations. It was great! 😎🚢🏝🐠🌺
