First Cruise by JaneBo

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Great trip.  Staff were exceptional and always willing to help and answer questions.  My suggestion to help first time cruisers would be to have a meeting the afternoon of departure for first time cruisers to ask questions and be given an overall idea of how things work on a cruise.  Everything from how the "snoozing or cruising" door card is used to let the steward know at a glance when the room is ready for servicing, to what dining options are available.  Thanks!

Epic Time in Alaska on The Legend!! by HawaiianFire

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

It was all beautiful, but the time at Glacier Bay was by far more beautiful than I expected. All the photos you look at, do not compare to you being there. We cant control the weather so you make the best of the times when you are indoors on the ship. So much to do. If something isn't right, at dinner or anywhere; speak up to your room steward or customer service and they will make it right. To many complainers whining about the weather or a meal or cant get in the Jacuzzi. Get a life and stop complaining! Life's too short to be on dry land!Love

Alaska May 2017 by Kyle67furness

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

A lifetime of experiences in one week. Saw all kinds of wild life from Eagles to bears. Glacier Bay national park is a must. If the iteniary doesn't include it you will miss out. Saw the caving of a glacier and it was amazing. The shopping is best in Skagway or Ketchikan   The trip is so much awesome environment   Just seeing the blue of the glacier is impossible to describe it must be seen with your own eyes. We took over 700 pictures but can't do justice to what you see. Saw a group of 4 whales bubble-net feeding many seals, Eagles and even a bear. Don't expect the usual cruise experience it so much more.

Love the Legend! Not too... by QWERTY1234

Sail date: /
Ship: Carnival Legend

Love the Legend! Not too big, not too small. Easy to find your way around. My husband and I kinda quiet people and we found plenty of quiet corners to read a book and enjoy views of the ocean, even on bad weather days. We also found great over looks to people watch.

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

an era gone by.

 Outdated cabin future

Ship mantinance

Where the staff on the ship was great the food was excellent the ship is in need of desperate repairs I have never seen so much rust on the Carnival ship before .   If I was the first time cruiser I would never go on a Carnival ship again .  Carnival repair  this ship or retire it.

Trip of a lifetime! by QWERTY1234

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Carnival Legend was our first cruise. I truly think you get out of an experience, what you put into it. We did tons of research for each port and the ship. And even though Carnival is a bit of a party atmosphere (if you're looking for that) we found the Legend suited us to a "T". We found places that suited us. We are sold on cruising as much as the cruise experience as the wonderful people we met. We are both very shy, but found staff, as well as other cruisers, kind, friendly and respectful. Yes, there were a few sour apples in the barrel, but the Legend was more than big enough for us to just move along and find our own spot.

Alaska dream cruise by Patty4paws

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Everyone's "bucket list" should have Alaska Inside Passage on it! It's not a real party hardy crowd and dress is a bit more casual. We met folks that have cruised Alaska every year for the past ten years and told us it has never been boring. The vistas are so stunning and the wildlife always worth the trip. :-)

Great Alaskan Cruise on the Carnival Legend by cruiseplanner1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was our first cruise to Alaska after about 14 Carnival Caribbean cruises.   I do not like cold weather and it was cold on some of our excursions.  Even though I was cold, this was my favorite cruise of all!    Even our young adult children said it was their favorite.  We spent 2 nights in Seattle before we started our cruise on the Carnival Legend.   We stayed at the Hampton Inn and Suites airport/28th Avenue.   It was a nice, clean hotel with very good rates.  The free breakfast was good.  The hotel provided free airport shuttle and free shuttle to several restaurants and the light rail.  We walked over 10 miles around Seattle after taking the light rail over.  We enjoyed our time there.

We really liked the Carnival Legend.  Unlike some of the reviews I had read, the food was very good-some of the best of any cruise.  It was always hot and we had great service with Alan, Dwight and Florin. We loved the size of the ship.

If we ever get a chance to go again, I would definitely choose May again because of all the snow on the mountains.  It was absolutely beautiful, especially on our Chilkoot Tour excursion to the Yukon on the train up and bus back.  James was our favorite tour guide ever!   I would definitely book with that company again while in Skagway.  Make sure you book before you go on the cruise.  I booked several months in advance for the excursion.

We did the Tracy Arm Fjord small boat excursion from the ship.  If I had it to do over, I would not spend the money on that because we ended up going through Endicott, which was still very beautiful and we saw several calving.  But the ship got pretty far into the Fjord, just not as close to the glacier.  Some may not agree but I didn't think it was worth $186 a person for the 2 and a half hour excursion when you can see a lot from the ship.

In Juneau we rented a car and went to Mendenhall Glacier.  It was nice to go on our own schedule.  We arrived before the large tour buses did, so it was not crowded.

In Ketchikan we did the town walking tour.  Our favorite part was Creek Street.

Shopping was great in Skagway and Ketchikan.

Our cruise was an 8 night cruise and we were in Victoria from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm.  I really didn't enjoy it.  We walked over 5 miles to town and back.  It was a rainy day and we just decided to walk around and look in a few stores.  My husband and one daughter went to a park which was beautiful.   It was Beacon Hill park.  They wanted to see the petting zoo but didn't get to see it.

I went by the reviews and layered with cuddle duds, sweat shirt and rain coat and had gloves.  I really needed a heavier winter coat for some excursions.  I packed a large suitcase that weighed less than 38 pounds, so I don't know why I didn't.   I would have enjoyed the balcony room better with a heavier coat also.   We didn't use our balcony as much as usual.  We went out to see the whales and sea otters and other wildlife.

I highly recommend going to Alaska in May.  I saw a few of those giant mosquitoes and sure wouldn't want to be there later in the summer.   Also, with all the snow on the mountains, May is a great month to go.    We would definitely go on the Legned again!  We loved it!!!

Never pre pay early! by Creekwisher1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Booked and pre paid 6 months in advance, couple weeks before cruise my companion was unable to go. I am a senior citizen with Heath problems so my niece offered to go with me. I called Carnival customer service where I was told three different stories, but finely was told it was be a extra $400 to change a name to my new companion,in the age of computers a 15 second job... for this reason I will not ever pre book with any line or sail with carnival again, which is sad because the cruise itself was pretty nice! Our air was out two nights but they were nice and sent strawberries... The side lamp on table had a short, but other then that the ports in Alaska were beautiful! Could have done without the full day in Victoria since the tour was just 3.5 hrs. The food was good as was the service on ship. One thing I liked was they were constantly cleaning...

Stunning Alaskan Cruise by HDGHOG91

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

I loved this cruise so much , my mom and I booked a cruise to Hawaii three days after we got back on the same cruiseship Carnival Legend.  This cruise to Alaska I would recommend to anyone. It was great going to Alaska because all of the other trips we took to hot places was just looking the same . Going to Alaska at the beginning of May was great , you don't even need winter clothes . Just a very light ski jacket not a huge parka.  Jeans are great to . Some rainy weather but  also would recommend bringing an umbrella just to be safe , you never know up there. If you are wanting to get whales sightseeing I recommend going later in the season as early May they are just heading up there now from Hawaii.

Overall excellent, a few minor complaints by longtimespinner

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Basically it was very good, but a few minor things could be improved.

1)  My cabinmate and I purchased faster to the fun but upon check in (just before the huge long line) I told the employee that but she directed us to the huge long line.  When we were almost at the head of the line we again told an employee we were faster to the fun and she ushered us right to a window to check in with an apology.  There should be a sign just before the huge long line directing faster to the fun people to go to the right.

2)  The dining room service was excellent with the following exceptions:  1) had a piece of lamb that was tough (I was given a steak knife with the lamb - I should not need a steak knife to eat lamb); 2) a piece of southern barbecued chicken had so much coating on it, I couldn't get to the meat; 3)  a couple of room service danish were very!

3)  It wasn't til several days into the cruise that we were told we could get announcements on channel 19.  Even then we could not always get them on the TV - had to open the door to the hallway to hear them (Cabin 5217).

4)  The time shown on the TV was one hour off.

5)  The shore excursion desk was closed a lot of the time and so was the gift shop.

6)  Misleading statement re internet.  You can connect free but to actually access the internet you had to purchase a package.

7) There was no source of weather information for the next port on the TV.  That was most frustrating as we need to know what to wear on our shore excursions.

All the crew and staff were very helpful and friendly.

Excursions not to miss, Mendenhall Glacier, White Pass Summit and Dog Sledding by vivianjo52

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Mendenhall Glacier via helicopter ride and guided walk in Juneau -  this is one excursion you want to do. My husband and I booked this through Carnival (pricing was very comparable to outside vendors so we decided to stick with the security of the cruise line). The morning of the tour, weather was bad but it cleared up an hour later for us to do this tour. The staff at the helicopter company was great - professional and extremely personable. The helicopter ride was awesome - we love helicopter tours. Walking on the Glacier (with our special walking boots) was memorable -

sipping Glacier water, using glacial mud for its skin benefits, learning the ins and outs of glaciers, and experiencing the views (our pilot pointed out sights throughout the flight) plus fun photo opportunities with the Alaska flag. . .its a true Alaska encounter. We had plenty of time after the tour, to wander around town, shop, have a cold Alaskan brew at the saloon, and best of all, eat some fresh Alaskan king crab legs at Tracy's - do NOT miss this opportunity - seriously, you won't ever eat crab legs like this anywhere!

To The Summit - tour of the White Pass - well worth the cost of the tour - in fact, probably one of the most reasonable Carnival excursions we have done - small bus/van tour to the top of the White Pass Summit - absolutely beautiful snow capped mountains.  .  .our driver was great, stopped along the way for history and overlooks and photo ops, then made sure he got everyone's photo at the "Welcome to Alaska" sign at the top of the summit. Bring your passport because you will pass over into Canada very briefly. The tour was short enough that we had time to wander around Skagway and stop at other points of interest, lots of National Park offerings there - films, displays, walking tours, etc.

Dog Sledding Discovery and Mushing Camp - This was one of the most fun tours my husband and I did in Alaska - can't recommend it enough. Mushing with the dogs was a thrill. We boarded a wheeled sled (obviously, there was no snow on the ground to use a real sled) and the dogs pulled us on a trail through the forest. It was such a neat experience - something you probably have always seen and wanted to do. Then we got to meet the dogs, chat with their trainer, Becky of Dream Big Kennels. She is great! After the "mushing", we were able to get a short history and information session of how Iditarod racers race and what they wear, then we got to meet future racers - the puppies - sooooo tempting to bring one home - they were so cute. Everyone had a chance to cuddle with a puppy. There's a shop for souvenirs and snacks/drinks. Wish the pricing was a little better - the souvenirs were a little high but the experience and pictures we took are all the memories I need from such an awesome experience. Do it! (FYI, we also stopped along the way for photo ops of majestic views.)

Fantastic Alaskan Cruise! by Kathryn3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Alaska

Overall, this was an awesome cruise! We went early in the season so it was cold and not all excursions were available yet. The upside was we were the only ship at every port we visited so it was never crowded. The most beautiful scenery you will every see.

Traveling on this ship taught... by TravelAround

Sail date: /
Ship: Carnival Legend

Traveling on this ship taught me to look at the cdc cruise ship ratings. The food gave me a virus, other people were kicked out of their cabin due to ventilation contamination, many others got sick. Only gave it two stars cause it took us to Alaska and the people were amazing. Horrible old ship, dangerous food.

Legend ship needs remodeling done now by mark8888

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Hawaii

This was my 8th Carnival cruise but very disappointed for the first time, this ship needs remodeling done now,  it's the 3 time on this ship and the poor maintenance shows. I had room 7189 extended balcony and regret paying extra for this unit. Exterior rust, paint dripping, rusted bathroom door jamb, dirty carpet, extreme dust from there vaccum, oil coming out on main deck from the upper draft.
