Review summary

A let down. The entertainment was awful. The food was repetitive. August should not even be offered as a travel month due to cloud cover.

Embarkation

1 out of 5
kept us shoved in tight like cattle.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Just okay and very repetitive meals.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
Sucked. Cheap audience participation entertainment. And who on earth would I care about a hairy chest contest???!!!

Entertainment

1 out of 5
Shows were amateurish at best in both voice and choreography. English entertainment and comedians completely ignores their international guests that do not speak the language instead of using professional choreography, acrobats, or magicians where there would be less of a language barrier.

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
My kid loved it, but he couldn't always eat the dinner offered.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5

Ship Quality

4 out of 5

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
mattresses are hard and or lopsided

Ship tip

expect to not be able to use the serenity, waterworks, courts, or mini golf and the Legend can't figure out that they should probably enclose and heat these areas on a freezing cruise to Alaska.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

4 out of 5

Juneau, Alaska

1 out of 5
They should not be sailing here in August as cloud cover will more than likely ground all your aerial tours.

Skagway, Alaska

4 out of 5
You must go all the way into Fraser BC for the best scenery.

Ketchikan, Alaska

1 out of 5
Great looking port but they spend the least time in the best looing port.

Victoria, British Columbia

1 out of 5
At night really? We were racing through dark Butchart Gardens. Super rushed!!!!!!!!

Cruising isn't for everyone. I'm always happy when those people discover they don't like it and hopefully don't cruise again. OR, there's those folks who badmouth Carnival and move on to more "high end" lines because they're "better than" the Carnival crowd. Each to his own.

In short he shouldn't have bothered going then. Funny when the carnival legend cruises from Australia there doesn't seem o be anywhere near as much moaning about what's on board for entertainment and food

Excluding the OP's weather report, the rest of the cruise was as he described-miserable.

Exactly @katievp. I've cruised twice on the carnival spirit to the same destination and both times the port of call changed. I was just happy to go cruising cause it's an awesome way to holiday

Not this American. I'll be happy to cruise in their place anytime. Some of us are grateful for what we have. 😊😎

But I guess sometimes Americans are just too hard to please

I was there, on that cruise. The weather was exactly what I expected for Alaska and was prepared for it. What I wasn't prepared for was the most miserable dining experience I have ever had. Mediocre at best, downright inedible the rest of the time. And the reviewer is right about entertainment. Plenty of shipboard entertainment on in port days and practically none on at sea days. The only good entertainment was the piano bar.

I thought the weather and clouds there at any time was hit and miss. Still excited.

Darn those August clouds! I never realized that August was bad cloud season!
