Carnival Horizon overview

By Cruiseline.com - Updated Mar. 6, 2020

Designed from the ground up for no-frills fun, Carnival Horizon offers an exhilarating array of activities and entertainment for families and budget-conscious cruisers looking for a modern mega-ship cruise experience. Horizon is the newest ship from Carnival Cruise Line, so travelers can expect the latest, most cutting-edge amenities: pedal a bike high above the sea on SkyRide, the ship’s suspended bicycle course, or enjoy friendly competition with a game of basketball, soccer, or mini-golf at the SportSquare athletic area. Passengers looking to beat the heat can twist down The Cat’s Hat waterslide at the wet and whimsical Dr. Seuss WaterWorks water park, which is currently only available on Carnival Horizon.

There’s no shortage of entertainment options on Horizon, either. Check out Playlist Productions’ themed musical extravaganzas or visit the Carnival Multiplex, which features a large-screen IMAX theater for a 3D experience, or take the stage yourself and channel your inner rock star to compete for prizes in Lip Sync Battle: Carnival. And while kids engage in supervised, sea-themed play at Camp Ocean, parents can grab a margarita and enjoy hammock time at Serenity, Horizon's adults-only oasis, or retreat to one of Cloud 9 Spa’s exclusive thermal suites.

Casual dining is king on Carnival ships, and Horizon has more options than you’ll be able to try in a single 7-night sailing: Guy’s Burger Joint, Ji Ji Asian Kitchen, Seafood Shack, Bonsai Sushi, and Cucina del Capitano are just some of the popular onboard options. Horizon also boasts the world’s first Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse, where cruisers can indulge in classic barbecue favorites paired with exclusive craft brews. For formal and elegant dining, Fahrenheit 555 is the go-to spot with its classic steakhouse menu, and Chef’s Table offers an exclusive private dining experience for 12 lucky guests.

Carnival Horizon currently sails out of Miami year-round, offering multiple Caribbean itineraries. Voyages to the Western Caribbean include ports of call in Ocho Rios, Cozumel, Montego Bay, and Grand Cayman, while Horizon’s Southern Caribbean cruises are destined for ports in Curacao, Aruba, and Bonaire. Horizon also sails to the Eastern Caribbean, stopping at Grand Turk, Nassau, and Amber Cove.

Before you book

Why sail on Carnival Horizon: Carnival Horizon’s active, family-friendly approach to cruising make it a great vessel for multigenerational groups, plus its fares are significantly lower than ew ships from other cruise lines.

You should know: With nearly 4,000 passengers, public spaces are bound to be crowded, and the ship’s family-friendly approach to cruising means there are always lots of children on board. Carnival Horizon probably won’t appeal to travelers seeking poolside relaxation or a quiet cruise experience.

Had a pleasant cruise overall. Carnival adds the fun if you want to partake. We enjoyed a couple comedians and the piano bar.

Overall Great Trip with just a few hiccups by meiggsar

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Horizon

Loved the cruise altogether. It was our honeymoon so we obviously made the best of every moment. We learned alot on this ship, though, and will choose a different ship next time along with some different activities and options (such as not paying for the priority Fast to Fun option, etc.)

A small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages (i.e., sparkling water, sodas, juice, and milk) packaged in cans or cartons may be brought onboard on embarkation day and must be in the guest's carry-on luggage. A small quantity is a maximum of 12 sealed, unopened cans/cartons of 12 oz each per person.

Bring your own hand sanitizer and use often. The crew does a good job of keeping things clean for the most part, however the buffet is a free for all and not mandatory to use hand sanitizer before entering any food line like Princess cruise ships. There are some really disgusting people out there that think "their shit don't stink" and want to share their nasty, grimy germs!!
