Anniversary Cruise by dsh216

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The first port was supposed to be at Cozumel, but because of a pending storm we went to Grand Cayman.  Loved it!  We didn't do any shore excursions there, instead opted for a "local" tour for $20.  It was great!  We went to the city of Hell, the turtle farm, the dolphin farm, the local rum factory for cake/rum tasting.  We had a fun group and Melita, the tour guide was awesome.  She took us to the 7 mile beach were would could stay for several hours.  We opted for a shorter stay so that we could take time to enjoy some local food.

The next port was Honduras,  Really liked this port as well.  The beach was really nice, secure, the people were friendly.

I was really excited about going to Belize, but it was not what I had imagined.  Again we took a local tour.  While informative, it was kind of boring.  If we go again, we plan to do the zip line and cave tubing tour as we heard that was a lot of fun.

Cozumel was awesome.  Again, we opted out of the excursions ofter by Carnival and did our own thing.  We went to a local resort - El Cid, where for $45, we had beach, chair and umbrella access as well as open bar, lunch and 90 min snorkel equipment.  It was great.  When snorkeling the fish come right up to you.  If ever at Cozumel, we will go back to El Cid.

For the cruise itself, our service people were nice and friendly.  The food left a lot to be desired.  When I cruised in the past, all food was included.  Now if you want steak and lobster, you have to pay $20 for it.  Not a large amount, but I've already paid for my food.  With the specialty restaurants if you want a really nice steak or lamb, you have to pay to go there or pay for it in your dining room.  I think that is a rip off.  The same for the soda.  I can understand having to pay for the alcoholic beverages, but for soda?  AND they no longer have the midnight buffets!!  That used to be the big draw.

The other thing I don't like is the prepaid tips.  To me, since the tips are already paid for, the service has gone down.  I would rather tip as I see fit then what the cruise line has determined is proper.  We did tip our dining room waiter and our cabin steward additional money because they earned it, but I would prefer to do all the tips on my own.

Our room was nice.  We booked our cruise two weeks before the cruise and opted to let Carnival pick our room.  It was an outside cabin and the price was perfect.  It was on level one, but we didn't care. Our take on that is we are all going to the same place, we all eat in the same dining room, etc.  BUT, the room was nice and large.  In fact, we plan on requesting the same room if we go again next year.  We want to take the kids, they would love it.

The disembarkation has a lot to be desired.  Though they ask you to leave the ship by deck levels, your luggage doesn't leave with you.  If you decided to let them take your luggage to the port, you are given a number.  We had number 33,  yet when we were told we could get off the ship, they were only on number 5!  We waited over an hour to get our luggage.  Worst for those who had duffel bags.  They were never told they were not put on the belts.  Instead they put in the center of the floor all at the same time.  There were people who had number 1 and 2, that waited for 90 minutes before they saw the area.  That was not good.  One couple standing by me were in a panic because they had an early flight to catch. There was no sign telling people where to look for the duffel bags.  Now I know next time I will stay on the ship longer if I has a bigger number.

Overall it was a good trip.

The cruise was wonderful, and the staff was very friendly and helpful!  My only complaint was the cost of photos.  I think they would sell more by dropping the price.

loved the ship by teenaturner78

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

We had so much fun. The food was great. The shows were awesome and we would definitely take this cruise again. Every one was very nice and helpful. The only thing they need is more people in guest service. The line was always long and took forever to talk to them about any problem or questions we had. Other than that our room attendant was super sweet and took great care of us the whole week. I need some of the recipes for the food my daughter is a picky Eater and she loved the food which was a plus. Staff is very nice and works very hard. Make sure you enjoy the spa there fantastic. Thanks

Great boat and service. Boat well maintained and exceptionally clean. 4 stars instead of five due to ports being less than optimal. Excursion choices not interesting at all ports.

Great 1st Anniversary Vacation by GiaNicole

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was our first cruise together and we were celebrating an early 1st wedding anniversary. We are very happy with our experience! The ship was great, even though you could tell it was a little dated. Carnival did a great job with renovations a few years back. The food was awesome at each of the restaurants and buffets, and we really liked the fact that food was readily available at all different times of the day. Your Time Dining was the best option for us, so we didn't need to be on a schedule for days that we were on shore. We opted to buy the Cheers program, and were glad the drinks were strong and had such a wide variety (not like an all-inclusive resort which offers only a small menu). Putu the "Shots, Shots, Shots" waiter was awesome!! He was very attentive and fun both during the day on Lido deck, and at dinners. He is definitely a fan favorite, along with Juan and Juan Jr. who made omelets each morning. They are the best! We also really liked Eduardo and Craig, the cruise entertainment person and cruise director.

Entertainment (comedy club, game shows, Lido deck parties) were all fun and enjoyable. The islands were great, although Grand Turk was our least favorite (very poor, all activities were secluded to one spot on the island, lots of solicitation).

A few things we weren't super fond of were the sail away guitar player that played as we left Puerto Rico (put everyone to sleep instead of getting everyone pumped up), the fact that coffee at restaurants (not the buffet) had a cost, we got charged for 3 shots we ordered at dinner because we weren't told that they were an extra charge (just assumed it was part of Cheers), and that we were charged the standard rate for gratuities on the 2nd day of the cruise (instead of at the end after we could see how the staff performed).

We look forward to our next cruise!

Carnival Glory by intlsourcingmh

The ship and service was very nice. I thought there could have been more variety of activities. The activities seemed a bit limited. Food and service was very good and the attendant for our stateroom was the best. The only thing I did not like was the disembark meant process. It took way too long to get out bags off the conveyor, like 1.5,hours. We should have carried our bags off. Overall good cruise.

Poor service by esterogary

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Western

we chose open dining and when we went down the first night 45-60 minute wait didn't work for me with a 8 year old so we changed to first setting and went to diner the host said 2 words when we showed up follow me !!!!!!!!!! then we waited 10 minutes for a waiter really !!! no lie I was just about ready to leave when another waiter noticed we were setting there with no service. So I feel you should not charge up front for service and I will never sail with those pre paid grats anymore. Our cabin stewart was great. I thought the pools were nasty and wittnessed a 12-13 year old urinating in the pool after that I was turned off and didn't allow my 8 year old back in the pool. The pizza parlor had great pizzas but most times long waits. Parking @ $20.00 per day is not called for. Very rushed on port days why can't you delete 1 port and plan on staying longer to get a little more time in ports. Other than the above my little guy had fun at Camp Carnival. I think I will up-grade my future cruises

Carnival Glory Was A Fun Time...a few minor issues by gregthehitman

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Had a GREAT time on the Carnival Glory, the nightly entertainment was awesome. The shows, games, and comedians were all fun. The Steakhouse is worth the money. The Dive-Inn theater was a little problematic, the movies would start but there was no audio, it took as much as 20 minutes to get it right. Some of the gift shop staff seemed a little aloof. The screwed up an order, I bought some liquor in the fun shops and they don't deliver these purchase until the final night on board. This is no big deal, but it is a MAJOR problem when they make the delivery and don't have your order! I was so frustrated I just told them to forget it. The buffet is mediocre, the food for the most part was nothing special. The dining staff was awesome and made dinner enjoyable, I was amazed how the always remembered our names! Impressive. Carnival needs to REMOVE Belize City from their destinations roster. IT SUCKED! It was a very small meaningless shopping district, the employees of the shop were rude. Also the destination came with a security warning. The area was walled off and surrounded with ARMED GUARDS! Scary! DON'T GO! The tindering process was a joke with long lines, and mass confusion. My wife and I spent less than 30 minutes, and returned back to the boat. A complete waste of time. Mahogany Bay is THE BEST! Hands down best stop on the cruise. Also, we enjoyed Cozumel and Grand Cayman

Carnival Glory Review by mkgouwens

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was our second cruise with Carnival, the first being on Carnival Freedom back in December, 2011.  The Glory was very similar to the Freedom, as far as layout opf the ship.  We traveled with our 4 adult children, ranging in ages from 21-24, and occupied 3 cabins on the Riviera Deck.  The cabins were small, as we expected.  We had to wait a little while to embark on the ship, but once we did we went straight to our cabin and dropped off our carry-on luggage and went to get some lunch on the Lido deck.  We did not receive our checked luggage until close to 6 o'clock, which was a little disappointing since we were on our way to dinner (early seating booked).  We noticed sometime in the afternoon that mine and my husband's Set Sail cards listed a different table number for  dinner than our 4 kids (Platinum Room), and we tried to rectify the situation with the restaurant staff, but they said we would have to wait until 6 o'clock when the restaurant opens and talk to the head waiter, which we did,  Even though I booked all three cabins at the same time, and told the agent that we were all traveling together and obviously wanted to sit together, she did not link our cabins together in the reservation, and since mine and my husband's last name is different than my kids, they separated us.  The head waiter was nice and placed us at a table for 6, and was hoping we could have that same table our entire cruise, by the next day we had a note slipped under our cabin door changing our table to a table for 10 instead, which turned out okay.  The 3 others traveling together seated at our table were nice and we enjoyed their company all week.  The shower in our bathroom must've been clogged because the first time we took a shower there was water coming up over the lip of the shower stall, but Housekeeping quickly fixed the problem the next day while we were enjoying our "day at sea".  There were a lot of young children on our cruise, which was expected, but not enough pools and deck space near the few pools.  We had to lay out on a top deck above the pool, whether it was the family pool or the adult pool, everytime we wanted to cool off or swim in a pool.  We were disappointed in the food selection.  There didn't seem to be enough variety on this cruise.  No "theme" nights like we experienced on our first Carnival cruise (chocolate buffet, etc.), and the specialty restaurants were very limited (only a steak house).  We enjoyed the burgers at Guy Fieri's place, and took advantage of the late night pizza and Reuben sandwiches. We were also disappointed in the evening entertainment, feeling there was not enough variety in that either.  There were just singing variety shows every evening, nothing else.  We did enjoy the comedy shows, but they needed to host it in a bigger venue because the club they held it in was not big enough for the popularity of the show.  If you didn't get in line an hour before the show started, you wouldn't be getting a seat, and if you did, it would be single seats only.  There wasn't enough variety of activities to do throughout the day either.  No games to play by the pool, and nothing really to do indoors either except music trivia or Bingo, which was costly.  There were no movies playing during the day, inside or out, and the movies they played in the evenings on the big outdoor pool theater was so packed, you could never get a seat.  We enjoyed all the ports except Costa Maya.  It was run-down and dirty and nothing to do except walk the "boardwalk" to the end and walk back, but you didn't dare walk the entire way on foot because it took you through run-down areas which were a little sketchy, so you had to take a cab or bus.  The staff on the ship were excellent; very friendly and accommodating.  We had great weather, sunny and hot everyday, which was a plus.  Overall, we enjoyed the cruise, but was a little disappointed in the cruise line and ship itself.  In addition to the other Carnival cruise we took in 2011, my husband and I have sailed on 2 Royal Caribbean cruises, and thoroughly enjoyed those.  I would probably try another Carnival ship in the future, but only if there was a great sale or offer going on.

The carnival glory was fun by AnieseLawrence

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This cruise was fun, they definitely catered to kids and partying. Service was amazing especially from our waitstaff, three Phillipinos- Anthony, Sandrew and Mark ( table 608, 8:15 pm). The only regret is the way Carnival billed us for the tips/gratuity, without prior knowledge. Our account was charged 4 times for gratuity ( even for a toddler) very early in the getaway. We have been on previous Cruises before and we understand how the system works ( we both [mom and dad] work in the hospitality industry) so we understand that your workers profit off the tip system, we have never Stiffed on the tips ( so we know it was a safety precaution), however an early warning or disclosure would have been greatly appreciated. We took it for granted without focusing on the fine print. Other than that everything else was worth while. The early billing did set us off course along with the daily gratuity added to most purchases. In view of the foregoing, are we willing to take another Carnival Cruise? Yes, but with more concern on the budget, so as far as that goes, we may be willing to try other Cruise lines once more before Carnival. Nonetheless, compliments to the food ( Platinum restaurant, Guy Fieri burger, Pizza's, Taco's and Ice Creams/desserts). Never say never, but we will be back again. Bess.

Carnival Glory to eastern Caribbean by ScottMac

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Food was great, but the evening entertainment was lacking.  Rarely was the theater filled to capacity.  Many empty seats.  Two nights of Hasbro games was ridiculous.  Two nights of the exact same show with the singers and dancers at the exact same time was ridiculous.  Other cruises have featured magicians and professional entertainers.  The comediens in the Ebony lounge weren't that great either. One constantly ridiculed everyone, even people and kids in the audience.  The "family" shows didn't seem so much family oriented to us.  Deja Vu was a fantastic group as the members performed.  Sadly, they were put in the casino lounge which seemed like a hallway.  They could have been one of the performances in the theater for evening entertainment...again, in our opinion. St. Thomas and San Juan were great ports.  The Carnival Island was fantastic--a great way to start or end a cruise.

Very Good experience on the Carnival Glory by glendonnawallac

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We enjoyed the entire time that we were on the Carnival Glory and the time that we were off the ship.  Each stop that we made was different and very enjoyable.   The island  that the Carnival owns was very beautiful and so much better by adding a massage to the day right on the beach.   The weather during the week was perfect and the water at each island was beautiful and clean.   We will take the cruise again someday as we really enjoyed San Juan and we would like to see more of that island.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly by chambersmd

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My wife and I were generally pleased with the cruise due in large part because we were able to stay in 2 adjacent 1a staterooms for the same price that we would have paid for 1.  (We still love each other after 40 years of marriage, but I snore ;-)

The food was ok, but the quality has definitely decreased since we started cruising with Carnival about 5 years ago.  The real dining issues were the bad behavior (yelling, throwing utensils, etc) of some of the other guests we were seated near and Carnival's failure to enfore their dinner dress code.

The nightly entertainment was way too intense for us.  The director/producer must think that every show has to run at full throttle the whole time to keep the audience's attention.

Great value and service! Our best cruise! by green6395

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The dining room service was outstanding - we ate there every night, although there were many other options available. The food was all over the ship was great and very high quality. There were lot of choices for every meal - the dining room variety changed every night, but there were several that were available every nght, including steak, grilled salmon, grilled chicken breast and a wonderful kale salad. The desserts were awesome. We ate on the Lido deck buffet for most lunches, and the food there was also great and high quality. The fruit was fresh and good, as were all the other dishes. There was ice cream and pizza available 24/7, and our group enjoyed it as well. The pizza was very good, and we often had pepperoni with some fresh baby kale on top. Our cabin was clean and comfortable and the bathroom was roomy, as far as what you'd expect on a ship. The vanity area was roomy. There waas no tub - only a shower, but that suited us fine. We all agreed that this was the best cruise we have been on (out of about 8 cruise vacations).

Very Good Experience! by almyraallen

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We enjoyed all ports of call, even though I had visited Cozumel and Cayman Island before the Myan Ruin was a good experience and as usual cayman was very nice. The kids really enjoyed the dolphins. It was my first time to visit Belize and Honduras. Belize city tour was very interesting. We shopped at the port in Honduras and the beach was great. The ship was very nice and Crew was friendly. The shows were great. We enjoyed evening dinning. The main dinning had a limited variety and availabity (not always open) but we loved Guy's Burger Joint, IT'S THE BOMB!!!

Excellent cruise! by Beachbum17

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Great cruise! Staff was fabulous, entertainment was wonderful, and we had a great time. The only drawback was how long it took to be served in the dining room. We only are their a few times because it took more than 90 minutes each sitting  -- even when that weren't busy.

Awesome Vacation by canadianlover

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was my first cruise and it was fantastic. I recommend this cruise to everyone. The staff on the cruise ship provided nothing but exceptional service. Thanks to everyone especially Luciana and Ida.

I also went on 3 excursions that were fantastic. The twister boat ride to the island in coymel was great. The cave tubing in Belize was alot of fun although I did not care for the food. It is not my taste. The BOSS underwater venture was outstanding in Mohogany Bay.

Big Smile
