Great New Year's Eve ever by MargaretL5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was very crowded and this was most evident when looking for chaises around the pool with the big screen TV and when trying to get food at a buffet. There were, however, chaises available by the pool at the back of the ship and on upper decks where there were no pools. By 8:00 am, there were towels on all the prime chaises. The ports and the shore excursions were very good. New Year's Eve was the best. The party in front of the big screen TV was a blast. We traveled with 3 generations and we all enjoyed the party. Free champagne was being distributed for an hour. For such a big, crowded ship, I found that the Habana Smoking Lounge was always empty. I saw only about 5 people in there at any given time. It is a big wasted space that could be better used for something else. While we stood and sat in so many crowded areas around the ship, this space was virtually empty. Doesn't make sense. Also, there is not much to do for the 18-20 year old crowd. Both my children (18 & 20) were hoping for a get-together with others in this age group -- but nothing was arranged. They were too young to drink and too old for the teen clubs. But they survived and actually loved the cruise. This was also a week that brought out lots of grandparents, which was nice to see. There is enough entertainment, lounges, bars, etc., in the evening to keep you interested, entertained, and nicely inebriated. Whether at the pool, the Victoriana, the Casino, or in any lounge, a waiter is constantly asking you for your drink order. In fact, if anything, there were probably too many drink waiters all over the ship. First time cruisers definitely were impressed whereas seasoned cruisers were more critical.

Awful food by RosalindK

Sail date: / Traveled as:
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Not good: food was awful, even in the Sun King fine dining at $30 extra per person; cleanliness - ice tongs and ice bucket were crusted with 'guck' upon our boarding; linen napkins from buffet were already dirty and used as you unrolled your silverware; the stereo system is way too loud in the main pool/screen area; 9-11 year old camp was not exciting at all and my 10 year refused to go back, so we were the babysitter the entire cruise.

Great Trip! by WP

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We were totally surprised by the excellent dancers and live entertainment. It is clear that they did the very best possible with the resources (music, staging, and costumes). The dancers worked hard (and we didn't even necessarily liked the music). Also, if you select the right shore excursions - we took a canal cruise in Costa Rica and a city tour of Panama City - you will also be delighted. Very, very informed hosts. The only negatives were of the ship itself - tacky and over the top decor. Also, the food looked good but were neither delectable to the palate nor aromatic. So, it filled the stomach without being fulfilling.

another fine cruise from Carnival. I would like to see when traveling from Ft. Lauderdale to Jamaica....that the Key West stop be emlimitated, and another stop replace it.

Not a good time had by all! by MrsP70922959

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Room steward was awesome, service was almost invisible. Dining room steward was a different story. Food was always cold and we were always served late. Steward was having a bad cruise the entire time and we paid the price. One of our dining companions had an insect in her food and it was barely acknowledged. Ship layout was tough. You had to go up from DECK 3 and then back down to get to the atrium on the oher side. This is cruise #8 for me and the first and last on Carnival.

Wonderful cruise? by Angiea11

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Carnival Freedom had plenty of room for the more than 3000 passengers on our cruise. It is a fairly new ship and looked it. Our state room was small but not cramped like some of the other ships I have sailed on previously.

A relaxing cruise by KateM5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This cruise was very relaxing!!! All of the ports of call had great beaches to enjoy. The ship was very big with plenty of activity. The only complaint was the long lines for the buffet style restaurant on Lido Deck.

beautiful and relaxing cruise by BarbaraS18

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

Our cabin was well maintained. Our bed was very comfortable. The dining experience wonderful. There are many choices of where and what to eat with very little wait time in lines if you chose the buffet.

Would not go to these ports again. by TimothyK

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I was on the Carnival ship "Freedom", we went through Key West, Grand Cayman Islands, and Ocho Rios Jamaica. If you like to shop then you will have a great time in Key West and Grand Caymen Islands, there was nothing else to do. We had a riot in Jamaica, there was not enough time to see all that we wanted to, the people were very friendly there. The cruise ship Freedom, had a lot of great staff from the room stewards to the formal dining area but the buffet left a lot to be desired, food that was supposed to be hot was cold (and in a lot of situations not cooked thoroughly), and food that was supposed to be cold was warm, by the end of the cruise they were running out of stuff in the buffet area. Overall, I would give this cruise a "D".

Trip of a Lifetime by Jan6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

The Carnival Freedom 12 day trip to Greece, Italy and Turkey was wonderful. The things we saw in the ports were amazing. The Carnival staff was wonderful. The food was delicious. The beds were heavenly. The shows we saw were very good. Some of the shows were only at 10:30pm and that is TOO late.

Med cruise experience by DinaS1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

My overall impression was an ok ship, I can't say I was thrilled. This was my second cruise. It was the Grand Medditeranean and I had visited the Carribean the first time, so I found Europe to be less exotic and not as fun as the first cruise. Also, my first cruise was with Royal Carribean which I found had more options in entertainment and food and the ship was by far more fun. The Freedom is a nice ship, the decoration is a bit too heavy for my tastes and I would have wanted bigger pools because they were small and crowded.

fun cruise by Debbie10

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

I have been on many ships, this is our second Carnival. The ship was clean and had the same layout as the Carnival Liberty so I was able to find my way around quickly. However, the decor was quite loud, too many conflicting colors and designs covering every spot. It was clean. The food was not great, the activities were very limited compared to other cruises we've taken. Our stateroom was great, we had a cabin with a balcony all the way on the top of the ship, FWD, in a perfect location. Camp Carnival for kids had very weak activities and poor selections to choose from. My 9 year old daughter has been on 5 cruises and we chose Carnival for the kids club However, she did not have fun in the club and is the type to have fun anywhere. I only went to one activity, towel folding and BINGO, not enough was offered so as usual, we just focused on the ports of call which is why we cruised. We were on a 12 day cruise, 3 of the shows were excellent, including dancers, wonderful music and costumes. The food was ok, dinners in the dining room had a nice presentation, not always delicious, we had the worst located table in the entire dining room and were never moved. Next cruise, we are going to go on a different line and a premium level company where they cater to the passenger.
