It was great but not wonderful by anahayes

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The employees of the ship were the best.

the embarkation, disembarkation and security briefing process are awful.

Will recommend but maybe after some changes during those 3 processes!

The crew members were great! The food was great! I had an issue with one of my excursions and they help resolve the issue immediately. I would recommend this cruise with Carnival to friends and family.

First Cruise by esmarybel

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The cruise was wonderful, but embarkation and dembarkation was terrible.  At embarkation all water bottles and Gatorade were confiscated without prior notice.  At dembarkation  someone took one of our pieces of luggage by mistake.  Thankfully the person returned it, but the Carnival staff at dembarkation had me waiting for over two hours to give me my piece of luggage.  The Carnival lost luggage person in charge would tell me it would be here in just a little bit.  My husband and I were tired and hungry especially since it was after our lunch hour.  It was not until 3:50 pm that we received our one piece of luggage.  When I asked for a compensation for waiting, the Carnival Manager said all he could do was help me with my bag.  I was upset because I was unable to eat and my blood sugar was low.  I explanied to Bobby, the Cruise Manager, and he was not empathetically instead he questioned me why I had not told them about my blood sugar.  I did not question because Vicky, lost bagge manager, told me several times that I would receive my luggage in a few minutes.  This incident happened in the Galveston port.

The people in the cruise ship were great especially the international workers, but the people in the port were not very helpful and rude.  I don’t think I want to take another cruise with Carnival line because of the way we were treated on Galveston port.

Fun Times in the Caribbean! by quattlebaumal

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The cruise was very relaxing and full of fun at all the ports we visited.  Our dining room experience was superb!  Roy and Shaun took great care to see that we were well fed for the entire cruise.  Our cabin steward, Pim, kept us in clean towels and unique towel animals all week long!  Everyone was so friendly.  We had a great week and would recommend the cruise to everyone!!

Great Family fun. by cdmhatre

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had thoroughly enjoyed our weeks break on carnival cruise. Overall its a great experience for all ages and it includes my 18 month old daughter.

The Food, Staff, Entertainment meets our expectation. Shore excursions were great and enjoyable with great price.

However understand that $147 were charge for vacation protection plan from follow up call after cruise. However it was never discussed during the booking and never required by us. Apart from this everything is good with the booking process.

Carnival Freedom by Kansascruiser13

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Great experience and destinations, probably would not take Carnival cruise lines again. We didn't have the best service and the ship felt overcrowded and like the Spirit of budget airlines. Absolutely recommend all three of the destinations and the entertainment staff was great!

Great vacation on the Freedon by kimmberann

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The port of Galveston was easy we were dropped off right in front.  We didn't have to wait to long after check in to board.  Once on board we ate lunch and went to our cabin.  Luggage appeared soon after.  Great crew, nice room.  We had an ocean view that pleasant.  There was a weird smell in the hallway but nothing that we couldn't handle.  The port of Ocho Rios Jamaica wasn't anything great.  Vendors were really trying to pressure you into buying stuff and that was annoying.  Cayman was beautiful, great shopping and real layed back.  Would like to visit again.  Swimming with the sting rays and kayaking was great fun.  Cozumel Mexico was fun.  We didn't plan an excursion but when we got off the ship we rented a scooter for the day and rode around the island exploring.  Ate lunch right on the beach.  It was fabulous!

Awesome experience, Great Vacation by Cruiser29602111

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Thanks for booking our vacation and giving us the best rate. The whole experience was wonderful and painless. Will definitely book with Emily's Travel Deals again.  I also recommend once off the ship,  look for your excursions with the locals, you will find better price deals for the same or even better experience.  This way you will get to know the people and island better.

Too much time on ship by mpatterson96

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

With moderately rough seas we did not dock in Key West, which was one of the reasons for taking this specific cruise. The ship instead spent an extra day to get to the next port which was Freeport. Freeport is a horrible destination port for a cruise ship. In summary out of a 7 day cruise we spent only one day in a port that was worthy of a cruise ship destination. Will never do that again.

The pool area was the best part with ample seating!

We never stopped in Key West & were not reimbursed!

Not enough sit down restaurants for the evening were available!

Basic Cruise by ssmurphree

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Carnival Freedom has better-than-expected food in the dining room and other food outlets.  The staff is friendly and makes an effort to know your name.  The cabins are clean and comfortable with lots of storage space.

Negatives: There is no way to escape the cigarette smoke from the casino that pours into the atrium.  The layout of the ship is poor which leaves you almost no way to avoid it.  The singers/dancers for entertainment were terrible.  I've seen high school shows that were more professional!  Go see the comics if you can squeeze into the small theater. There is little entertainment on this cruise.  First time I never saw the cruise director.  This is a very basic Cruise that will only please very inexperienced cruisers with low expectations that only want to drink,. Also, our Key West stop was cancelled due to weather.  That left the Bahamas which have the most boring ports in the Caribbean. Not much of a trip except for the company of good friends!

Poor Care from the Medical Team by jenniferwelch

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I want to start by saying that my husband and I love Carnival, and have previously gone out of our way to give positive reviews of all of our trips...and there have been many. However, this particular trip was quite disheartening. Due to rough waters and wind we were unable to stop at the first port in Key West; however, my husband and I both recognize that safety comes first and so we were content with the fact that the captain made the best decision for the passengers and his crew. The rough wind and waves is what caused many passengers including myself to become extremely sick. I woke up Tuesday morning around 5 am, and was so violently ill that I fainted in my stateroom bathroom hitting the shower surround as I fell, which caused me to bust my lip open top and bottom, and bruise under my chin from my ear line all the way to my throat and down my chin. My husband was concerned that I fractured my jaw because I was in so much pain, so he called emergency services from our cabin phone. First it took several minutes to get through, although medical services was empty, and when we did get through they were quite put out because I could not walk down to the Medic bay from my stateroom on deck 8 due to severe weakness. Medic finally brought a wheelchair, and once we reached the Medic bay, I was greeted by a less than enthusiastic nurse. She crossed her arms, looked at me and once I explained what had happened to me she stated, ( "Well, if I get the doctor it will be very expensive, you just have motion sickness. I might as well give you something since you got me out of bed anyway.") That was a direct quote. I was shocked that she didn't even take the time to look at my injuries to assess my condition, much less verify that I had not done further damage that may have caused me problems later. My husband got extremely angry and told her to "Go back to bed, we don't need your help". I was in extreme pain, and weak but could not help but cry as I sat there feeling humiliated for even being there. The nurse apologized saying we had "misunderstood" her; however, we did not. My husband and I understood perfectly that she did not appreciate being pulled out of bed to assist an injured passenger. This was extremely unfortunate. I went back to my stateroom and ended up resting for most of the remainder of the trip, leaving the room for short walks around the ship to try and make myself feel better. This was an awful experience that I hope no one else goes through. Being injured is not the way you would expect to spend your long awaited vacation, much less being mistreated by the staff you would hope would protect you 100% if something goes wrong. By the way, My husband and I ALWAYS purchase the vacation insurance, and have NEVER once had to use it, Thank G-d; so the expense of my injury was of no issue to us, we just wanted to make sure nothing major had been damaged, like my jaw etc.. This review is not all bad; however, as we encountered some of the very best wait staff during our late dining in the Posh dining room ever! Eduardo, Sadok, and Mary Grace were amazing, and we made lifelong friends with each and every one of them. They were attentive, and compassionate, and every single night made sure that I ate something due to me being so ill...even if it was not on the menu, they brought it to me, without me even asking! Soup, crackers, anything they thought would help me feel better! Sadok went out of his way to explain the menu each night due to food avoidances that my husband and I have ( we do not eat Pork), and Eduardo and Mary Grace made sure that I was comfortable each night. We made sure to go down every night to dinner no matter how I felt, because we were made to feel so welcome and truly cared about. This is the level of care and consideration that we are used to receiving from each and every Carnival cruise we take.

A Really Mixed Bag... by pbcbvk

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Freedom / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Wonderful staff and great food. Reservation desk staff very helpful, kind and accommodating.

Hated all the cigarette smoke coming out of the casino into elevators and other parts of the ship. Especially horrible for children!!

Will ll not cruise Carnival again unless they become smoke free.
