Review summary

Alaska bound cruise where you can see wild life and be close to the nature. Did not meet the expectation about Glacier view as I expected it much closer. But, we are always with the nature and was lucky to see breaching and swimming whales, orcas etc. Of course bald eagles are many a lot. This is not a partying cruise, the audience is families and aged people. There were five personal emergencies where the ship had to return to port twice delaying trips and calling for reroutes.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Getting the boarding pass is a very easy process. But everything after that to get into the ship is a struggle; thanks to the USA immigration and customs process. Since there are a lot of international travellers, the whole process is slow. You are in the middle of tired parents with annoyed and crying kids and tired and struggling parents and old people.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Windjammer is a best place to be. Mistral is excellent and serves great food, but for a larger group nothing beats the Windjammer experience.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Music options are limited and DJs repeated the same songs. Production shows are extremely good, but limited.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff and service is the best part. They take the whole experience to the next level. There is no annoying marketing staff or sales teams. Restaurant staff are extremely friendly and becomes a family by the first day.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Its a 20 year old ship, so do expect new gen amenities. But it is neat and clean thanks to the refurbishing done few years back.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Room# 7562 size is good. This is obstructed view balcony. The obstruction is only to look down directly into the ocean caused by the life boat. There is no other obstruction. Fairly large sized balcony, good enough for 4 people. Room has a queen bed, fold down bunk bed and a open-able sofa bed. Sofa bed has to be folded up everyday or will be difficult to navigate in the room. Bunk bed can be folded up easily or left open as is. Bathroom is comfortably sized, with a small shower area.

Ship tip

This is not a partying cruise. Audience is families and a lot of aged people. There is music, events and shows, but nothing like a Caribbean Cruise.

Ports of call

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

4 out of 5
This is primarily your boarding port and expect a loooong wait to get through US border immigration process. It could take 1-2 hours.

Cruise Inside Passage, Alaska

5 out of 5
Fairly calm and serene... for a person from the WA, Oregon or Puget Sound area, its nothing new.

Sitka, Alaska

4 out of 5
A small town you can walk around and complete in 1 hour.

Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska Did not visit port

Cause of sick passenger on ship, travel was delayed and this location was skipped.

Juneau, Alaska

4 out of 5
If not taking an planned sightseeing, take bus tour for under $50 for 2 hours.

Cruise Hubbard Glacier

2 out of 5
Saw the glacier from 5-10 miles or so away. Did not meet expectation. The whole reason for the trip was missed.

Ketchikan, Alaska

4 out of 5
Lot of shopping locations. Purchase shore excursions in advance but not from the ship.. it may be sold out at the ports. There were 4 ships that off loaded over 16,000 passengers the day we were there.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Easy process; walked out with the luggage. Selected 8:15 as the disembarkation time and was out of the ship by 8:30. Just carry the CA customs form and walk out.
