First time with Azamara by julieNmike

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Azamara Journey / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

A really enjoyable cruise with two days in Rome and the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Orix being the highlights. Azamara are very good indeed but for us didn’t add much to that ifffered by celebrity despite the additional cost, and the drinks package is inferior to that offered by celebrity.

Trans Atlantic cruise by JKMT

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Azamara Journey / Destination: Transatlantic

We love cruising on smaller ships. It doesn't compare to the 'herding' feel on the larger ones. This was our second Azamara trip & noticed some changes I don't love. They're phasing out the casino for more rooms. Right now there aren't any dealers, just computer dealers, which is not fun at all. And you rarely see the ship photographers anymore. I personally enjoy them taking pictures for purchase. Apparently most don't since they're so few & scarce. I personally felt the overall experience on the Quest was better.

ACROSS THE ATLANTIC by ldorge

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Azamara Journey / Destination: Transatlantic

Of course we knew that there would not be a chance for many excursions, the ship's crew did their utmost to make the cruise enjoyable. Keep in mind, there is a LOT of water between New York City and Lisbon, Portugal.

Great cruise by Galway2k

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Azamara Journey / Destination: Bermuda

Although we lost a day and a half in Hamilton, I applaud the Captain for his concern for our safety and comfort. He kept us informed of the travel conditions and was really on target. He was often seen around the ship and accessible to passengers. He certainly appeared to be very calm with a bit of humor

Guess my expectations were too high by LanSluder

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Azamara Journey / Destination: Cuba

We chose this short, six-night Azamara cruise for several reasons: First, although we prefer longer cruises, we faced some time limitations this trip, including my wife’s work obligations and also meeting family and friends afterward for some spring training baseball games; second, we had heard some very good reports on Azamara from friends who really enjoyed the casual, small-ship atmosphere and we figured this would be a way to try it out without a big financial or time commitment; third, and most importantly, we wanted to visit Cuba, and this cruise included two days and an overnight in Havana. Liked: • Easy embarkation and disembarkation • Friendly, helpful staff •Lots of "traditional" wood paneling and such on this 20-year-old ship • The Havana stop -- Havana is amazing, and we only wish we had had more time there • We get points on Celebrity for Azamara cruises So-so: • Enrichment offerings (basically one speaker whose knowledge of parts of the Caribbean seemed a little dated -- having written many books on the region I probably knew more than he did) • Food •Entertainment • The small-ship atmosphere -- Journey carries fewer than 700 passengers, but we really felt that we had more and better options for places to relax on the Solstice-class Celebrity ships Didn't like: • Cozumel • Bartenders' skill -- some bartenders seemed to have no training in making anything but the very basics. The Celebrity ships we have been on had much better bars and craft cocktails; the ship skimped on some ingredients, for example substituting cheap maraschino cherries for Luxardo cherries. I think Azamara should totally rethink its drink policies – just raise the fare a few bucks and make the included drinks cover more options and better brands. • Small stateroom, tiny bathroom and ridiculously little shower We loved our two days in Havana and wish we could have spent the entire cruise at Cuban ports. Why this itinerary included Cozumel I don't know. We have been to Cozumel many times, both on land trips and on cruises and no longer find it of any interest at all. It is a good dive destination that has been ruined by too many cruise ships and too much commercialization (Cozumel, amazingly, is the 3rd busiest cruise port in the world.) Bottom line: I guess our expectations were too high. We were hoping to really love Azamara, but at this point I doubt we would go on another Azamara cruise. We prefer its big-ship sister line, Celebrity, and hope that Royal Caribbean's purchase of a majority interest in Silversea will result in a true premium line in the cruise family (we have been on Silversea and hope that Royal Caribbean upgrades to new ships).

It was great! by dcteechr

Azamara is a great ship to enjoy yourself with warm and friendly people who enjoy the idea of sailing on a small ship and still have the all the things a larger ship gives you.

Wonderful Cuban Intensive Itinerary by JeffDC

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Azamara Journey / Destination: Cuba

We were disappointed at first. Only one ship card bifold for both me and my wife to share. Felt that should not be and is not becoming for a premium cruise line. Our first day rating was a C, the experience graduated to a B+ by the end of the cruise. Best things: itinerary and staff. Not so great: food at the buffet and main dining room. However, we spoke to Mario (food and beverage manager...exceptional human being) and the executive chef privately and expressed our concerns. We really felt that they will take our comments and do all they can to improve those deficiencies. Impressed with Azamara

Great Ship, great itinerary, overnights in Havana & 2 additional ports in Cuba - Loved it! by thorspeeps

Great itinerary. Cuba was part of our bucket list. Rally enjoyed the 2 overnights. You can just walk off the boat and into town, loved the freedom of doing so, in addition to the tours.

One of the very best cruises to date. Havana was wonderful, and the excursion to the tobacco farms was superb. Enjoyed Santiago. The people were so very friendly. Can't wait to book another cruise to Cuba.

Azamara Cuba Intensive Cruise by goben0811376995

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Azamara Journey / Destination: Cuba

Overall, this was a good cruise. We enjoyed the ports and were able to see lots of Cuba. We were disappointed in the sea days since we don't drink or spend time in the casino. It just didn't seem that there were activities on board. We spent most of the time in the room playing cards. There were no computer classes for Windows and no sewing classes (although they were listed in the bulletin daily - unhosted). Jewelry making class was one day - after I complained.

Disappointed with Azamara by Chaneln5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Azamara Journey / Destination: Caribbean

This cruise line does not compare with Oceania, Viking Ocean or Windstar. As evidenced by the fact that there is an up charge for the speciality restaurants, a charge for certain activities such as the computer class and the movies were $12. I just seemed tacky to put these extra charges on. This was not a cheap cruise and i am sure that Azamara considers itself a quality line. It is my opinion that we get more for our money with the aforementioned lines.

It’s time on Azamara and we enjoyed the size of the ship and the variety of spaces. We are Celebrity Elite members and prefer Celebrity to Azamara.
