Azamara Journey

10 Night Grand Prix & Cannes (Rome To Barcelona)

Sail date: May 18, 2019

Ship: Azamara Journey

Cabin type: Oceanview

Traveled as: Couple

Reviewed: 1 year ago

Review summary

A really enjoyable cruise with two days in Rome and the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Orix being the highlights. Azamara are very good indeed but for us didn’t add much to that ifffered by celebrity despite the additional cost, and the drinks package is inferior to that offered by celebrity.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Only about 10 mins from the car to the pool deck, brilliant!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Facilities on this relatively small ship are excellent with food a particular highlight though the inclusive drinks package is rather limited. There is an option to upgrade, though the need to even consider this was a little disappointing for a high end cruise.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
As a small ship these were always going to be limited.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Cruise director Eric was excellent and the azamazing night at the opera (a modern interpretation with operatic versions of ABBA etc!) in Livorno was incredible.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Absolutely excellent as you would expect. Nothing was too much trouble with a special mention to Kasih from the Philippines who was just brilliant.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Immaculately clean even if a little tired here an there but nothing major.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Immaculately clean but disappointingly ‘normal’ for a high end cruise. The bathroom was disappointingly small with the tiniest shower in cruise ship history.

Ship tip

Don’t miss the Azamara White Night. Great fun and superb food!

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

5 out of 5
Just Fabulous. So much to see and do here but careful planning is needed if you just have the one day. We had two and still didn’t get anywhere near doing everything we’d hoped to.

Sorrento, Italy

5 out of 5
Beautiful little town with fabulous views once you’ve made the climb up the hill to get there! (There is an elevator).

Portoferraio, Elba Did not visit port

Not on the itinerary

Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy

5 out of 5
Again, so much to see from Livorno, really careful planning is needed.

Cannes, France

4 out of 5
This was really busy due to the film festival so it was difficult to do anything bout we know from previous visits that Cannes is a stunning place.

Calvi, Corsica

5 out of 5
Simply beautiful little village and a great place to sit and watch the world go by.

Monte Carlo, Monaco

5 out of 5
We had two days in Monaco and spent both at the Grand Prix which was just amazing - and Lewis Hamilton won which just made things perfect. We did manage to get Lunch on the Sunday at the Swimming pool restaurant but will visit again when F1 is not in town to see this incredible place properly.

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
We only disembarked here and flew home, but from previous visits, Barcelona is simply amazing.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We just walked off, were met by our driver and jumped into the car. Perfect.
